I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Rooms are decent size. But overall I was very unhappy and tried to get my mother moved elsewhere with better ratings. In 10 months she had 14 falls - some of which caused significant noticeable cognitive decline which the facility and their med. staff did not seem to worry about. The admin was always reactive instead of proactive - only providing additional protections when I requested them, not when it was obvious she needed actions to protect her physically. I was there at least 1x/week. Most of the time I would arrive and could not find anyone on staff to assist with getting her to the bathroom, etc. Residents were left totally unattended/unobserved for 20-30 minutes at a time. I don't know if the Dr. even walked into the patients rooms unless he had to. Generally if I saw him he was glancing through notes, and from conversations with him, he had no idea which patient was which. I always had to request tests for UTI's when symptoms presented and then met resistance. Then they would put her on antibiotics for a couple of days and take her off. They always minimized injuries until I arrived and saw them. The injuries from the last fall were severe - she looked like she'd fallen down a set of stairs! She died a couple of weeks later. The death certificate said: malnutrition (which had also been diagnosed at the hospital after one of her falls). I would NEVER put a loved one in that facility!!!!!!

Care is provided by an excellent. Food is abundant and generally good quality. The rehab staff are quite good. It is a secure facility and kept clean...no odors detected. Rooms are a little small, but well kept. They provide entertainment and social activities. Live music is sometimes available. They do have an activities room that was also clean.

I visited this facility

I had an in-person tour at Sundale Nursing Home. The staff was nice. Upon arriving at the nursing home, the first thing I noticed was that the entry windows and doors were dirty. One of them was cracked and broken. That pretty well sums up the rest of the place. As we walked in, they were doing some remodeling, so therefore you expect some disarray, but it became very obvious that there was nothing but clutter in most of the offices and facilities. It did not appear clean. I'm talking about things stacked in offices that looked like people were hoarders. I felt like I was going into a hoarding facility. I felt during the tour that we intruded because they actually took us into rooms that were occupied by residents. They did ask permission, but when they asked permission, we were already really inside the room. The staff members seemed upbeat. They were accommodating during the tour. They knew the names of the residents, addressed them, and talked to them as we went through. They seemed to really care about their job and the residents. But someone needs to go in there, clean that place, and straighten it out.

My friend was well taken care of, he had many health problems along with memory loss. Everyone was very helpful with lots of attention to personal care.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Sundale nursing home in Morgantown, West Virginia is one of the nicer nursing homes in the state if you ask me. My grandmother is a resident of the home and has been staying there for over a year now. The quality of care she receives at Sundale is better than anyone could have provided her in her own home. The nurses I feel really do care at Sundale and that counts for a lot. I have read some horror stories about nursing homes staff not giving the kind of deserving care some of the older patients deserve. At first I wasn't down with sending my grandmother to Sundale but after visiting the home I found it to be clean, well-kept, and very warm and inviting. The home has activities for the residents and they can eat meals in a cafeteria together with other residents. The family aspect at Sundale is very important and is just another reason Sundale is an exceptional nursing home.
