You're more than just a number here at Quail Run Retirement Community. You're not just a name on a spreadsheet that's going to give them a better look at their profits and stuff at the end of the month. The cooking here is fantastic. I cannot say enough about it. I had a couple that I thought were kind of iffy, but I think you're going to have that in your best restaurants with whoever is the cook that night if they've got a bad day or maybe your waitress is not right up to snuff that day. So, you're going to have that, but they care here. They eat the same food we eat. They eat it at the same time we eat it and therefore they know what it is. So far it's lived up to its reputation. They have several rooms. They have one that they call a library. They have a couch, tables, and chairs where you can sit around. It's very homey and very welcoming and you're encouraged to use it. They mean for you to make this your home and if you want to sit and talk with somebody, you can. If you want somebody in for a meal with you, you're welcome to bring them in. I would bring in different ones to have a meal here and I'm not ashamed of it. It's pleasant. The people are pleasant, too. I don't know how they do it every day with a smile, but they do. I have a one-bedroom apartment. So, I have the two rooms here, the kitchen, the living room type thing, and the bedroom. I'm very happy. We have a couple of girls that come in and clean my room on Thursday and they are good. If I have something extra, they do it with a smile. I do my laundry and the laundry room is clean. It's a comfortable room to sit in and do my laundry. They keep it neat. It's welcoming. It's home. The activities are just a little slow. I don't understand that yet. They don't have them during the summer. I guess they have a lot of people that come and go and do their own thing during the summer. We are close to a Bi-Mart that's just half a block to walk through so we could walk over there to buy stuff occasionally. The library is open all the time and the books are up to date. There's a good variety of them. The puzzles are here. The games are here if anybody wants to play. They just don't have the game day and the movie day. They don't have an activity that is scheduled and running. There's talk that they are going to do this. So I'll have to wait and see it.

My mother-in-law is at Quail Run Retirement Community. She rents an apartment there and goes to the dining room for her meals. I believe they clean her room and empty her trash, but they provide no other services. They're very caring people. She enjoys independent living in her own apartment. I had a meal there a couple of times. Most of the meals that we had there were pretty good. They are Seventh Day Adventist-owned, and they offer a variety of foods. What they do is they give her a meal card to check off what she wants for the next day. She can choose her breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My mother-in-law's room is very nice. It's a one-bedroom. It has a bathroom and a living room. However, the only thing is she has a sink, and they only provide a refrigerator. I understand that because they're providing her meals, so she doesn't need a whole lot. They provide activities like people coming in and singing. They have about three big different rooms. One set up for jigsaw puzzles, then they have another room that's the library (where they have different types of things that might interest different people), and then they have another larger room where they have a big TV screen where they can show different types of movies. At the entrance, there's a sitting room also, the main office, as you come in the front door. We have gotten to know the staff quite well. There are some new owners, and they seem very nice and they're professional.

My mother has been in Quail Run for five weeks now and doing OK. It's an independent living facility. I chose it because it was a facility that I could come and go freely. I am designated as her caregiver, and I couldn't do that at any other facility in town. I also chose it because they have an extensive vegetarian menu in their cafeteria. It is independent, so she is only checked on really three times a day. If she doesn't show up for her meal, then they will check up on her. She gets housekeeping. It's a good fit for her. I have to do a lot more than if I put her in an assisted living facility. At this point, we're handling that. The managers at Quail Run have been very supportive. If there have been any problems, they've been good about informing me. She's acclimating to a new situation. They've been patient with her, and she is getting better at learning to live there. The rooms are a nice size, basically the same size as any other facility in town. The property was (I think) built in the 70s. It is old fashioned, but for most of their residents that is OK. It's not modern like many of the other facilities. There are old pictures on the walls. All their furniture is upholstered, and they don't have it covered with plastic. It's not up-to-date, but it's comfortable for the people that they have in their facility. The dining room is very nice. They go through a cafeteria line for breakfast and for supper, and then their lunch is brought to them at the table. The main meal is their lunch. If they're not able to carry their cafeteria tray to the tables, then somebody does that for them. They try to put people together at tables that can talk to each other. Because it's independent, there are many people there that really are doing just fine. They just wanted a place where they could have a simpler way to live. There's kind of a mix of a very active and a few that have trouble doing things for themselves. My mom has dementia, but she is able to get herself dressed, down to the cafeteria, and back with no problem. Right now, I'm told that the activities (because of Covid) are less than before. My mother plays the piano, and they have Friday night vespers that she plays the piano for. She has a piano in her room. It's just a good fit for her. It's a little more relaxed than some of the other places, which gives them a little more freedom. The staff is fantastic, and the food is very good. In fact, I haven't found a resident that doesn't like the food; they rave about it. It's unusual to have a cafeteria that is that good. There's no problem with the facility. It's just kind of sprawled out. It could use some updating. I could see in the past that they had lots of activities; but because of Covid, they have very minimal activities at this point. It's very reasonably priced. I either go in or I also have a caregiver that goes in. Many of the residents have caregivers. On a daily basis, I see at least four or five other people there assisting a resident or two.

The people at Quail Run Retirement Community were very personable. It was a very nice and small community. Everything was on one level, so we don't have to worry about stairs. They had on-site managers, weekly housekeeping, free laundry, a barber and beauty salon on site, and transportation that you can schedule for appointments and shopping. They also serve home-style meals. They had studio apartments, 1-bedroom apartments, and deluxe 1-bedroom units.

We lived at Quail Run. It’s owned by a family. We did OK for a while, but the manager wasn’t nice. One morning, we went to breakfast. Everybody had to stand in line and go through line and get your food. They had an ex-con living there who had been in Walla Walla Penitentiary. My husband likes to tease, and she was teasing this lady who always sat in the front and always get down there first. He said that he was going to go in first, and she said "I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me." And the guy said, “The line forms in the back. Get in the back.”   My husband didn’t get it, and he is sort of like getting Alzheimer’s, and he thought he was just joking. He hit him. He boxed him, and he was hitting him in the head. Finally, the cook came out, and she called the cops. He won’t quit, and he pushed him under the table. The manager cancelled the cops coming, and the guy stayed there. My husband was not sleeping after that, and he lost weight. Their employees were never happy there. They charged a lot of money.
