"We visited the Holiday South Hill, and my mother didn't care for the decor because she felt it was too sterile, but I really liked it. I thought the grounds were beautiful. It wasn't for her though, because we needed something with assisted living, and the place was independent living. The assistance is not at the facility's disposal. You had to get your own assistance, and that was why we chose not to go there. At the other place, where my mom is going, she wears a lanyard, so if she needs help getting up the toilet seat or up out of a chair, or if she needs a pill bottle to open, she can buzz the buzzer and it'll go down to the office and somebody will come and help her. Here, it goes to 911, so there was a disconnect there between the staffing and the care for the residents. We only looked at the studio, and it was your basic studio. It was fine, but I did not feel the tub set up was good at all. It was an older setup with a knockdown in the wall of the tub. For my mother, who is handicapped in her right arm, there was no safe way to enter or exit the tub. That was one of the main reasons that we did not choose it. The tub is a big issue for her, and it's not the only issue she has. They offer a salon, a game room, and a party room. They also have religious services in the game room. They had a computer room and a library. They have all the different things that a person should be able to find that works for them. The library was not as complete as at the place we chose, and most of the books are just donated books from residents and whatnot. One of the things that my mom said was that you can't tell if there's large print there or not. You have to go through every book to see if there is a large-print book. Other than that, I loved it. I thought the facility was great. The staff was also very nice. The facility was very modern, so if you prefer a modern taste, then that's really good."

"We love everything about GenCare LifeStyle at Point Ruston. The staff is fantastic. They look out for my mom. The facility is beautiful and they do an excellent job. They have good activities. They try their very best to keep their minds active and going, and that's very difficult in memory care. If there's one thing that I didn't really care that much for, that's the food. I fully admit that part of that is that my mom is very, very particular about food and her old age. So, the food's been difficult a little bit, but they protect her, they love her, and they do everything they can for her. The staff listens to us and is very attentive to us as a family to respond to our suggestions and needs. They have an actual program that they use with them to help keep their memories going. They do trivia, armchair travels, and crossword puzzles. There is health care and they have people that come up and do exercises with them, almost probably four days a week. If Mom needed it they have a place downstairs for a personal trainer to implement physical therapy that she could go to. They have a movie theater and a craft room downstairs, too, but they pretty much do their crafting upstairs. They have a pool if they need to do pool exercises that the residents can use. They have music events that happen down there. They have festivals and activities. For instance, they had all the ladies decorate and make hats for the Kentucky Derby. They had little scratch tickets for betting and they watched the Derby together. They ate stadium type snacks and they watched all the festivities together. It was really wonderful. They have a Cinco de Mayo celebration there, so every month they have one or two celebrations that are really fun. My husband thinks it's overpriced, but we looked at a lot of places, and for what Mom is getting, I think it's a fair value. The other places we looked at were not as nice."

"We toured Bonaventure of Puyallup. It's a newer community. I like the design, the flow of it, and the fact that it is new. When we toured, they were doing different kinds of arts and crafts. They showed us the movie room where they do the movies twice a day. They've got a little bowling alley and then a cardroom. They also talked about some of the field trips to take the seniors on. I met with their new executive director and she was very nice."

"I loved Solstice Senior Living at Point Defiance. Ten being the highest, I'll give them a ten. I like the cottages offered. I also looked at the main building, where they have a room big enough for me and my dog. It's the same building where the dining facility is, so that's very convenient. I love Point Defiance. It's very accommodating. The staff is excellent, very friendly, and knowledgeable. I looked at their one-week menu, and it was very diverse and looked so delicious. It's prepared there by the kitchen staff. They toured me to their kitchen, and it was very, very clean. I can't think of any negative things. I almost signed up with them, but I changed my mind for now."

"We visited Silver Creek by Bonaventure in Puyallup, and I think the woman who took us around was a really good ambassador for this place. She was energetic, had a lot of good information, and had a good sense of humor. She did a very good job. She's been with the company for seven years. We visited their independent living because there were no assisted living places open for us to tour. They're in one wing of the same building. I thought the upkeep was excellent. The rooms were a good size for such a facility, so I was impressed with that. They have two dining areas, and they seat at different times. For instance, at lunch, they seat around 11:45 and then at a later time so that the residents can go either earlier or later. They have two areas, and they're roomy. It's nice and open, and the whole place, including the dining room, has a lot of natural light, which I like. They have a gym, a library, and lounge areas. It had been recently upgraded and remodeled, so it was very nice. It's someplace we would consider living."

"I toured Brookdale Foundation House. I liked the fact that they included meals and transportation in the service. My concern is there isn't enough space. I'm trying to downsize from a house to a one- or two-bedroom apartment, and it's not enough space for me. The rooms seem to be very nice. They were roomy and didn't have a whole lot of stuff. They're great. They have little kitchenettes off of the rooms. I didn't see a lot of the staff. I can see them at a distance. They seemed to be interacting well with the clients, seeing what they wanted to eat in the dining room, and things like that. So they seem to be very helpful. The dining room was a pleasant room for people to interact and socialize. The community is near shopping areas. It looks like it's pretty well laid out. What I didn't like was that the available rooms were so far from the dining area. I'd probably end up using my electric wheelchair to get from point A to point B depending on where I got a room in there. But as far as the layout, it's convenient, and it's close to shopping and other amenities. I also looked at the menu and the choices looked like they were good choices with variety."

"My husband moved to GenCare Federal Way. It had a nice feeling, and the staff was very nice. The layouts are very nice. Everyone looked happy. It was just a nice place. It's very well maintained. There's a dining area and another meeting area where there's a TV. They have exercises, different games, and different things that they do. My husband's a Filipino, so there's a lot of Filipino staff, and that was kind of fun. This facility is comfortable, homey, and pleasant, so that's why we picked it. They have an eating place there, but when I'm visiting, I can take him to the other eating area where the other residents can eat. The one thing that might improve is that there are so many women and not many men. It's a much better value we're getting."

"I am a resident of Holiday Peninsula. They are all brand new. They just remodeled the whole building. We added brand-new hardwood floors and carpeting in the bedrooms. I got a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit with a balcony, granite countertops, and a small refrigerator. The housekeeping, the cooks, everything's been great. Everybody's been helpful, and I'm loving it. They let me move in before they even got the payment, which was wonderful. The food here is fabulous. Last night, I had a smothered steak and mushroom gravy, cooked to my order, and a baked potato salad. I had ice cream for dessert, and it was fantastic. They cook it to your order. They've got things all day, every day. They've got movies every night. They've got outings for shopping. They have everything. You can pick and choose what you want to do daily. They've got an office room for you, gardening, and arts and crafts. They've got sewing and a book club, and they have a band coming in every Friday night, providing music and dancing. You name it, they have it."

"My stepdad is in Cedar Ridge by Bonaventure. It's a very nice place and very well-taken care of. The staff is really good, they bend over backward for you. It's just a very nice facility. He's got a studio, it's got a good layout, and it has a small kitchen and a nice bathroom. The food is really good, and the workers are all always very helpful. They have amenities like a game room, they'll take them to stores, and they've got a nice big area where they could walk around. They have a smoking area out front, it's very well taken care of. They're all priced about the same as other places."

"Patriots Landing is very nice. It's more oriented towards the retired military because there are lots of retired military in DuPont. They have shuttle busses to VA hospitals, the parks, and the commissary. They have quite a few events like they take them to baseball games. So it's quite nice. They have a single bedroom, and double bedroom and their cottages are very spacious. They're about 1500 square feet and they have a full kitchen. I met the coordinator there, she was nice. They have a game week, and movie week, they take people to movie theaters and stuff around the area. They have a barbershop and salon, a library, and the meals are included. The facility was clean and well taken care of. It seems especially for the retired military, there's a lot of camaraderie with the other retired people who live there."
