We have extensive training upon hire: dementia, mental health, CPR, Safety Protocols. Training is ongoing for each department as well as required Continuing Education (12) hours per year.
We staff according to our resident care needs. For example: If we have multiple Level Fours in the unit, then our staffing is higher. We always have sufficient Med Techs, Caregivers on the floor, and a Nurse if available 24/7 if she isn't on-site for her normal shift.
TABL specializes in SPARK Montessori for Dementia Residents. Every staff member is trained in this philosophy and approach. It is our goal to spark cognition with every interaction with our residents - big and small. We have a full activity schedule. In addition, we are adopted by Trader Joe's and receive their flowers twice a week for flower arranging. We also implement music therapy as well as Eldergrow Horticulture therapy.
Our onsite nurse makes the health and cognitive assessment. We have the initial admission assessment, a thirty-day family care conference, and then every six months conference. If there is a significant change in condition, we communicate with the family immediately.
We are all about communication and transparency: emails, phone calls, letters, newsletters, and Facebook are some of the ways we keep our interaction strong with our families.
