I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at Walnut Hill Convalescent Center for almost four weeks. They were poorly staffed, especially at night. My mother constantly was calling me, asking me to call the nurse's station, because when she rang the bell, no one would come. I waited on the phone with her for about 15 minutes one time just to see and I ended up having to call their front desk, and then someone did come and help her. This was almost every night. During the day, they were very thinly staffed, but at night it was just like a nightmare. She ended up having a roommate that I don't know if she was mentally disturbed or what. She looked over at my mother one evening and asked her why did she do it. My mother said, "Do what?" She said, "Why did you put demons in here with you?" I immediately had to contact them to get Mom out of that room or get the other person out of the room. The other person ended up leaving the room. Mom didn't like the food. She didn't feel like she got adequate amounts of food. Breakfast would be some eggs, one strip of bacon, some applesauce, or something like that. As soon as you walked in, you could smell this awful odor that went throughout the entire place. She also broke out in a rash while she was there and they were telling me that that's partly because of the strong detergent that they use to wash their sheets and towels and stuff. The therapy was OK. She saw a therapist a couple of times. If they came in to do something, they would do it, and then just be done with it. They don't have phones or TVs in their rooms. No one told us we need to bring our own TVs. There are a lot of loose ends that I didn't understand. She was just in her room all the time. They didn't offer to wheel her anywhere or anything like that. She was ignored half the time and when you brought something to their attention, they would seem to attend to it, but why do you have to bring things to their attention when you see what's going on?

I visited this facility

I visit Virginia on Sat. Aug13, and stopped by Walnut Convelescent Home in Petersburg Va and I was not really happy with the nursing home smell but overall the rsidents looked comfortable, happy ,clean and welcomed me with alot of conversation. I did like the fact that the local schools and scouts visit during holidays. The facility was clean and residents rooms we spacious. The staff greeted me and ensured me that my grandmother will be happy at WHC. The facility offer optional room sharing or private rooms . In making a choice my grandmother will love the attention and care here.
