My husband is in Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home. It's federally funded. They're very well-staffed, and they're very attentive. It's a nursing home, and he's in the memory care unit. The places he was in before were primarily women, and he had nothing in common with them, so he was very lonely and didn't have anybody to talk to. So now he's got other men with similar backgrounds. It's brand new. They've been accredited now, but they don't have all the residents in place yet. They're still building up their staff and their resident population. The physical plant is in excellent condition. They do activities, they have the meals, they do medication monitoring, and they're working at getting dentists and doctors and all those things in place more so than what they have now. They're building a lot of things. They have the enclosed walking patio for the memory care residents to be able to go outside. They have three meals a day. The staff is very good. They tend to get a little fancier with their meals than what a lot of residents are probably used to. They have a barber who comes in. They have different volunteers from outside the community who will come in. They had guitar players the other day, so some little shows and things come through, too.

I just love Tuskegee Airmen State Veterans Home all the way around. It felt wonderful. My husband did 27 years in the Air Force, and there were veterans there, so I think that is the place where he would want to be. The staff was excellent. As a matter of fact, they're having an open house on October 8th, from four to six, and anyone's welcome to go on tour. The facility is just beautiful. It's huge. They're getting ready to open up another portion of it. Everything is so modern. They can go out and sit in a screened-in area. They can go beyond that and walk around. Everything is gated. So, it's very secure.
