"I toured Barnes Place yesterday with my younger brother, and I think that's going to be our route. There were a lot of positive points. The nurse who showed us around was very friendly. The different staff members that we ran into while we toured the building were extremely nice. The rooms that she showed us were clean. The place was clean. The cafeteria looked lovely. They have two different courtyards, and both are lovely. It's just a matter of paperwork to get my brother there. The reason I chose them is because I work here in Latrobe, and it was convenient that I could run up during my lunch hour and see him there, so that was my biggest draw to that place. The nurse said the food was wonderful and that they all ate it. It's a great place. I think it would be a wonderful place to place a loved one and feel confident that they were being taken care of. It looked like a resort, too."

"My mom is now at Brookdale Latrobe. When we went there to look at it, it was very clean, and very well-lit. The people there were very helpful and very forthright in explaining what everything was going to happen with my mom. I didn't meet much of the staff. I met the director and the lady who was the marketer. She was our first contact. They were very good. The food was very good. They have a lot of activities for my mom to do. She broke her hip and she needs to be able to get up and go. I don't know if they have a gym, but they have a lot of activities in the morning, then between breakfast and lunch, and then between lunch and dinner. They have more activities that they get people out and they get them together and meet and greet and things like that."

"We checked at Moorehead Place. What we liked the most was the staff. The staff was professional, friendly, and interactive. They seemed to be motivated to care. The general appearance of the place was great. The place was clean. It was designed to provide assisted living services to seniors, and it looked like they were accomplishing that. They looked really good. Their first impression was terrific. It's a place that you would want to check out for your family."

"My father was a resident here 3 years. He recently passed. The facility is small but that is a good thing. His care was great. The staff was like his extended family. I can't say enough good things about the Activity director and her staff. They keep the residents busy and engaged with many varied activities. The nursing and aide staff were great"

"St. Andrew's was a very nice facility. As a matter of fact, I was wanting my husband to take my mother-in-law there before he decided to take her down to where she is now. The area was very nice. They had nice facilities. They had a lot of activities for their residents as well. It was a very clean place, and they seemed very nice as well. It was beautiful. They had different levels of care, and they had a specific Alzheimer's unit. The staff was friendly. I had other people telling me that they had family there, and they were taken excellent care of. One of the reasons why I was looking into that home was because of several different people telling they had relatives there. They had a salon. For those who had Alzheimer's and could not feed themselves, they had a separate place for them to come and eat, then somebody assisted them when they were eating. "

"(Scenery Hill Manor) When I first entered the building, I noticed it was dirty & outdated. My dad was there for weeks & they did zero rehab on his hip. They used a lift belt & a bunch of excuses. They lost his bottom dentures. Put him in a room with a 300 LB guy that had the A/C on 24 hours a day & my dad is generally cold. They had no concerns for my dad's well-being just dollar signs. His current senior facility went to visit him after my complaints, and they saw I was right & that he needed removed from here & they found a way for him to get rehab. "

"Bash's Personal Care Home in Commodore, Pennsylvania is an assisted living facility that feels more like a home than an institution. Nestled at the end of a country road, the residents can sit on the covered porch or look out the windows and see cattle grazing in the field and birds nesting in the trees. It is a very peaceful setting where the staff and workers treat the residents as treasured family members. Surrounded by farms, Bash's has room for approximately 40 residents. Most residents have a private room, although you may choose to share a room with a family member or friend. The rooms are small, but they are kept clean and there is ample storage for clothing and other belongings. The one down side of Bash's is that there are shared bathrooms in the main halls, which can be inconvenient for those who require a high level of assistance. I'm sure that the number of toilets meets the standard that is set by state regulators, however I think it would be nice if they could consider adding more bathrooms in the future. The facility is all on one level and the dining area and common living areas are adjacent to each other, so residents are never far from one another at any time. There are a number of activities to keep minds sharp and alert, including bingo, arts and crafts, Bible study and card games. The residents are well cared for, and for the most part, seem happy and content. The nearest town and hospital is about 15 miles away, which is also a drawback. During the winter months, bad weather can make it difficult for vehicles to make it out to the main roads or for ambulances to get in. So if you have a loved one considering a move to Bash's, think about whether they might need to have medical care on a regular basis. This family-run facility takes pride in the way it treats its guests. It is not a fancy place, but it provides clean and comfortable accommodations for those with limited resources. Since it is a bit off the beaten path, you might want to call for specific directions before you go to visit. It may be a little hard to find once you get off one of the main highways. However, once you pull into the gravel driveway, you will be welcomed home with open arms. "

"Live Well Estates is located in a very scenic part of Pennsylvania 30 minutes north of Indiana, PA. There is a big bay window in the dining room from which residents can view the lake and surrounding woods while eating. However, it is 30 minutes from the nearest large grocery store or hospital. My grandparents enjoyed the atmosphere; and one staff member (aide) in particular. However, there was a very high turnover rate among staff, so the staff did not care for the patients as they could have because it was just a "job" for most. The owner was not around much, but was wonderful when she was. The director was grumpy most of the time, and did not allow permission for many requests that would have been beneficial to her patients, such as when we asked if we could take my grandparents for an extended vacation of a week. (This was eventually approved, but by the owner.) "

"Grey's Colonial Acres Personal Care Home smelled nice. They were very sweet and very nice. It was fantastic. The owner was the one who walked us through and she was very nice. Everything looked clean. They had a dining area and a sitting room, and I saw people in the hallway talking and being friendly to each other. I would highly recommend them. They had two rooms that would have been available if my brother wanted a two-bedroom place. Then they had a one-bedroom place that was going to be available as soon as they had it cleaned it. It was around the holidays, like Christmas, when we were up there. I noticed that on all the doors, they had all this wrapping paper and bows. On the bathroom door, they had a Santa Claus sitting on a commode and that caught my attention. They said they all get together and do those crafts for their doors."

"I visited Country Manor. Everybody seemed really nice and really happy. The rooms were very spacious and clean. There was a two-bedroom with a shared bathroom. There was also an efficiency with its own little kitchen set and bathroom that was all private. The dining area was more like a restaurant. They had very nice open grounds. There were some walking trails, too. I like the fact that you can come and go as you please, and that you're not like locked in there."

"The Nursing home I had visited was very homie, I felt comfortable like I was at my grandparents house again. Everyone was very nice and the nurses seemed very caring and welcoming and i think that is amazing because a lot of personal care homes and even hospitals do not feel like that and the employies are that happy to be doing what they are doing, they clearly love what they are doing and they do a great job! "We will not be moving my father-in-law from Haida Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center because it's just too convenient for the family. They give us medical attention, as well as the personal care. They're very caring towards their patients. They do what's necessary for their well-being. They keep the family informed. The physical condition of the facility is good. There are places where they allow the people to sit with their loved ones. My father-in-law has been in both semiprivate and private rooms. The rooms are nice, and they can bring in whatever they need to for his care. He is not able to do activities. I know they have activities there. We were looking into them at the beginning, but he went downhill so quick. He's not able to do any activities. They're taking good care of my father-in-law. With everything, there is always room for improvement; everything I have seen has been up-to-date. The staff members have been keeping us updated. Any time my husband called with questions, they either answer him right then or get back to him within an hour. The staff is good too."

"This facility has a lot of caring people who are employed there. I have always enjoyed my visits here. The staff is friendly are there are always several activities for the residents to engage in. The room my family member is staying in is always neat and clean and if he needs anything at all they are always quick to assist him with whatever he is asking for. The food is always on time and prepared in a way that he enjoys it. The residents all are made to feel like they are part of the family. If assistance is ever needed, the staff are very quick to respond to any requests that are made. They are always activities available and plenty of social time. My favorite time of the day is early in the morning when the facility is very busy and the staff always have a smile on their faces and are willing to engage with the residents. My Uncle has been in a couple different assisted living locations and this is our favorite because of the friendly staff. "
