Bash's Personal Care Home in Commodore, Pennsylvania is an assisted living facility that feels more like a home than an institution. Nestled at the end of a country road, the residents can sit on the covered porch or look out the windows and see cattle grazing in the field and birds nesting in the trees. It is a very peaceful setting where the staff and workers treat the residents as treasured family members. Surrounded by farms, Bash's has room for approximately 40 residents. Most residents have a private room, although you may choose to share a room with a family member or friend. The rooms are small, but they are kept clean and there is ample storage for clothing and other belongings. The one down side of Bash's is that there are shared bathrooms in the main halls, which can be inconvenient for those who require a high level of assistance. I'm sure that the number of toilets meets the standard that is set by state regulators, however I think it would be nice if they could consider adding more bathrooms in the future. The facility is all on one level and the dining area and common living areas are adjacent to each other, so residents are never far from one another at any time. There are a number of activities to keep minds sharp and alert, including bingo, arts and crafts, Bible study and card games. The residents are well cared for, and for the most part, seem happy and content. The nearest town and hospital is about 15 miles away, which is also a drawback. During the winter months, bad weather can make it difficult for vehicles to make it out to the main roads or for ambulances to get in. So if you have a loved one considering a move to Bash's, think about whether they might need to have medical care on a regular basis. This family-run facility takes pride in the way it treats its guests. It is not a fancy place, but it provides clean and comfortable accommodations for those with limited resources. Since it is a bit off the beaten path, you might want to call for specific directions before you go to visit. It may be a little hard to find once you get off one of the main highways. However, once you pull into the gravel driveway, you will be welcomed home with open arms.
