The Best Nursing Home Communities in Harrison County, MS

"My wife is in a nursing home called The Pillars of Biloxi. She has dementia, and she wanders. It's kind of a special unit for her. She's just been in there about four weeks now. It is nice and is an older place. There is a lot of stuff, and they take good care of them in the unit that she is in. They have good nurses and good people who takes care of them. They seem to be alright. She seems to be happy there. It's not something I wanted for her. There's a lot of private places that are a lot nicer and newer as far as the buildings. The Pillars of Biloxi is an old place, but they take good care of them. I can't really complain about that. They have excellent staff there. They seem to do everything I've asked them to do. My wife shares the room with another person. The room is kind of small. They don't have a lot of closet space in the room, but they get by. It was kind of like a hospital room. They have a curtain that they can pull that separates them. They have started some physical therapy. She has not been there long enough to get involved in a lot of stuff yet. I'm not really sure what they have. She's kind of in a lockdown unit where they can't get out the doors. They have an area they can go out. There are about 20 patients there, and I think 4 of them smoke. They have a smoking area out there. I asked them one time if they would take them out, and they said they do. They take them outside and let them out once in a while to get some air. It's not really nice, and it needs a lot of work. It's an old nursing home, but the people take care of her really good. They seem to do a lot of activities."

"The care at Lakeview Nursing Center is as good as it gets. The place is always clean, there is never any urine smell and they have amazing food. One thing didn't like is that they dress the patients, strap them in a wheelchair, and put them out in the hall. Then those same people say, "I have to go pee, somebody help me pee." It's sad. They have a beautiful facility, with a colonial-looking building for assisted living."

"My mother was in rehab at Gulfport Care Center. It's convenient for me because it's right there, and I was pleased with the personnel. I initially chose it for convenience, but they also took care of my mom. The appearance of the place was good. I had no problems with them and it was clean. The person who showed me around when I toured the facility was professional. We weren't there very long, but I was pleased with our experience there. They have activities and they also gave my mother manicures and things like that. Her room there was clean and had the bare necessities, like a bathroom and so forth."

"Boyington was 2 minutes from my house. It was quiet, clean and organized. The staff was outstanding and real helpful. They were well staffed and it was set up for long term care. The medical staff did well. They were real good but they were expensive. The food was moderate. "

"My father stayed at Driftwood Nursing home since after Hurricane Katrina until recently when he died.. I visited several times even though we were not close and found the facility to be an excellent nursing home. The patients were good about watching out for one another...those who participated in activities or got to know other residents There were a few who had crawled up inside themselves or who resented being there or who quite literally seemed detached from themselves but by in large the residents seemed to enjoy the company of others like themselves...Many had relatives that visited often. There were those who didn't have visitors. The staff seemed genuinely concerned for the residents...but I suspect there were a few who weren't as kind as they could have been. I found most of them professional. "

"Greenbriar Nursing Center was very clean, the staff is very friendly, and it's convenient. They have Bingo, and every Friday is spa day. You can get your hair and nails done which is more for the women, but my dad got his hair and nails done once though, and they have a luau and take pictures; every day they got some kind of activity going on. It's homey, cheerful, bright, and clean. Every one of the staff is just as nice as they can be, and if they can't help you, they go and find somebody who can, and every time I deal with them, I tell them that I just cannot believe how nice and wonderful they are. My dad had wounds from when he had 2 hospital stays before he got to them, and they let me know what the other 2 hospitals didn't let me know about his wounds and what they're doing for it. They're very informative, they're able to help me with Medicaid, and they're doing great with my dad's rehab. He went from being paralyzed to up and walking. He's not walking great, but he can feed himself and walk. "
