Nursing Home Communities in Thibodaux, LA

"My friend is at Lafourche Home For Aged & Infirm, and it is really nice and clean. It's an older facility, but run very nice. They have a rehab section, and I was there almost every week to visit her before COVID happened. They have remodeled it, so the halls are wider. They also have an activities director, different churches coming to do services, and they have groups that come in and do music. Their food was designed for every resident because they had certain diets for almost everybody. They're not as high in price either."

"Heritage Manor of Houma was brand new. It's just been renovated, but it was, in my opinion, way too large. Mom could not have physically made it down the halls walking. It didn't have individual rooms. It had just enough room for a hospital bed and one chair. I didn't think that she was at that point where she was just going to be in a hospital bed or she only had a bed to go to in her room. You couldn't get the staff's attention. My sister had a sister-in-law in there, so we went to this unit to visit her and there was a woman that was falling out of the bed. I stayed with the woman and my sister had to go and find somebody to take care of her. We pressed the call button and it took a good five minutes for a staff member to come and take care of a person that was in distress. It was more like a hospital and not a home. We didn't have time to schedule a tour, and they didn't have an opening. Instead, we visited my sister's sister-in-law and I was able to see how it was run, and my sister and I both agreed that our mother wasn't at the point where she would be OK with just being in a room. It was a really large facility and the halls were long, and she would not have been able to handle that much walking to get to a main room or anything like that, so we decided against it. They had chefs that make the food for them and my sister-in-law remarked that the food was really good. She says that there were lots of activities, and they had things going on all the time. It was clean and beautiful. For somebody that doesn't have what my mother has, I would say it's probably a 5 and a really good deal, but you have to be able to have some mobility. I didn't find that they had as many staff members in the unit."

"The staff members at Maison De'Ville are very nice and take a personal interest in the residents. For instance, every time I visit my grandmother, if a staff member happens to come to bring medicine or food, they always stay and talk for a while. There are not a lot of amenities on site, but there are off site trips offered during the week. Also, there are bingo games during the week that the residents seem to really enjoy. Near major holidays, there are usually parties for the residents and their families. The facility seems pretty clean, but always has a somewhat unpleasant smell, although I think that might be unavoidable. The newer side of the facility is nicer than the older part. The older side of the facility has small rooms and two rooms share a bathroom, but the newer part of the facility has larger rooms with private bathrooms. There have been a few instances of theft among the residents and the security could stand to be increased. Overall, Maison De'Ville is a pretty average nursing home. "

"I really liked The Oaks of Houma. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and very helpful. Nothing was out of place. The people are not distressed. There are a lot of visitors and families coming in and out, so it was very homey. "

"Chateau Napoleon Caring takes good care of my father. The rooms are spacious and inviting. My father seems to be eating his meals, so the food is good. They have bingo, but I'm not aware of any other activities, because my father is not able to participate in them. They do their laundry and they have individualized enrichment. They're expensive, but they do a lot of work, and so the cost is worthwhile."
