My cousin is in Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center right now. It's clean. The attendants and staff are very friendly and attentive. They take good care of their patients. They do take your concerns, and they've been very pleasant. Their food is not good though. I've seen hospital food, and it's worse.

Only about memory care unit- you can ask the right questions but the administration will not truthfully answer you. Staffing is 1 to 10 not 1 to 5 as I was told. There are no real activities being done besides a recreation therapist making a snack for the patients. Some patients get to go in a smaller entertainment room to watch a show. Mostly people are stuck sitting in their wheelchairs by the dining room table for hours. Staff can possibly change patients diapers that often. Maybe once a day. No wonder staff is cranky - they don’t have enough help. Don’t place your lives one in the facility!

The absolute worst facility imaginable. My Father could barely move and they discharged him. I told them he was not ready to go home but Brad their know it all therapist said he was ready. This man should not be allowed to work in any healthcare facility again. My Father was home less than 24 hours before he had to be rushed to hospital. He is lucky to be alive. He also caught covid in Gurwin . When he was leaving another patient got run over by a meal cart and was in pain and nothing was done to help them. I would not put a dog in this horrific facility

The rooms are the nicest part of the facility. Staff originally seems caring and helpful but after your loved one has to stay for awhile the truth comes out. Food was cold, never delivered we had to get it. When asked about it responses were nasty. Care was late, majority of staff were apathetic and could not be bothered. Every time we asked for assistance we seemed to be bothering them. No-one was at the floor desk to ask questions. This facility just has a higher price tag. It is the same as the other nursing facilities. Very very disappointed with the care my father got.

My wife is in Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The place looks very modern. The staff is excellent. I haven't met a person there from the cleaning ladies to the head of the organization that I haven't been impressed with. They're very caring for my wife, and they're doing everything they could to make her as comfortable as she can be outside the home. The food is not to my liking, but my wife is taking the nourishment, and she's okay with it. The care that she's getting from the medical staff, the nursing staff, and the general staff has been excellent. They have musical entertainment, exercise in the special care facility that she's in, artwork, bingo, and card games. They have a very vigorous activity. What I'm paying is worth the service.

After multiple ER trips and a hospital change to get a proper diagnosis , my mother was transferred to Gurwin. The staff at Gurwin was top notch from Anthony our Social Worker, to Mike and Debbie, Moms PT and OT therapists and the entire nurse/aide staff on 4 West where mom stayed. Everyone was extremely caring and patient dealing with moms pain and discomfort and working through all to get her to a healthy enough point to come home with some daily assistance to resume a new normal life. Thanks to Gurwin , we have our mom back when we thought all was lost. Excellent facility!

This 5 Star review is for Wayne F. who saved the life of my Brother Scott Gingold. These are his words: "I am writing to you to commend Wayne F. for going above and beyond the call of duty last week when I was taken to the hospital. The paramedics had me strapped to a stretcher and were taking me down the hall to leave when Wayne stopped them. The paramedics didn't have the proper equipment on me and were taking me down without my necessary thirty percent oxygen. I think the ventilator was just giving me regular air. But Wayne made them take me back to my room and hook up the proper equipment. If Wayne hadn't spotted that in time, I may not have survived the trip to the hospital. Wayne saved my life and I just wanted you to know how grateful I am.

Our mom is at Gurwin Rehab following surgery for a broken hip. Gurwin has a wonderful reputation for excellence and terrific nursing care. We could not be happier with the care mom is getting. The nursing staff is amazing, kind and caring. The facility is gorgeous and spotlessly clean at all times. The patients are kept very clean and all their needs are met. The food is delicious with many choices and the presentation is beautiful. The PT and OT are done with caring and compassion. The goals are set and met gently. This is a Class Act Facility! From the top to the bottom the staff are tuned in to the same goal - The benefit of the patient. A Model for all facilities to follow. You are doing a fabulous job!! Well deserved Reputation of Excellence!

My Grandfather stayed at Gurwin and the staff could not have been better. They made sure he was well taken care of. In addition they were great to my family when we came to visit. I would recommend this facility to anyone in my family & friends.

My family member is in the nursing home and certain shifts are good and then you have terrible charge nurses on other shifts that are very disrespectful to family members, and only care about themselves and not the family member they are supposed to be taking care of. The family is supposed to feel safe with their loved ones there and taken care of but not in this situation. At one time Gurwin was a good facility but in the last few years sorry I cannot say that any more. This is to all staff, "IF YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR JOB OR ARE TIRED OF IT MOVE ON AND FIND SOMETHING ELSE BECAUSE YOUR ATTITUDE SURE DOES REFLECT IT, AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE."

The aides can't be bothered if you really need some help. You can ring the bell and they take forever. Most if not all have a very bad attitude. Hoping to get mom out ASAP.

My parent recently lived (Mar 2014( at Gurwin for for two months before we took him out and had him go home to live with an aide. I give a date because in reading reviews on this place it is very important to note. First let me say that the physical therapy and occupational therapy team is TOP notch. They truly do care and work very hard. They feel it is important to build relationships with their residents . They were wonderful. Unfortunately, that's where my positive review ends. Working in the town of this facility for over 30 years, I had heard wonderful things about it. After getting my parent there, I found out that they are running on a past reputation. They have changed quite a bit, mixing different levels of mental capacities together, making socialization a difficult one. In the morning, you are often awakened at 4:00-5:00am to get dressed because they have so many residents to get up. If you are unable to go to dining room and dine in your room, your food is consistently delivered cold to your room, with items missing from the tray. One morning, my parent was delivered someone else's already eaten breakfast! There are a few wonderful aides but most of them speak poor English and couldn't care less about the welfare of the people left in their care. My parent was left in bed and had clothes thrown on his bed telling him to get dressed. ( he was wheelchair bound.) Several times he was left in the bathroom for over a half hour waiting for help to get out. It took me 6 weeks of asking to finally get his nails cut. Each time I asked I was told a different date that it would get done. If you are lucky enough to catch a nurse in the hall, they will give you little information. To this day, I don't know the meds my parent was being given or what they were for. My parent was on a diabetic diet and given cookies, cakes, etc with each cold meal. I could go on and on, but will stop here. Anyone reading this gets my pony by now.

I hated this place. The staff were nice overall, but this place was more of a business than an assisted living center. They did not have the ability to deal with my Grandma and her alzheimers, and so it made it very difficult for them to stay there. The place was drab, and seemed a little dirty, it also smelled awful. The lighting was poor and it was not worth the money they were charging. Everything they had was charged for, we felt that this place was only in the business for the money, not to actually care for people. My grandma had to be moved over to the nursing home unit of the facility at one point and they fought my grandfather tooth and nail to allow him to be able to stay with her there, they had been married foer 62 years and they were trying to keep them apart, at their age, and with my grandma's alzheimers, that could be detrimental to both of their health, something they didn't take into account. My father helped get things done for my grandparents and the facility seemed to always make him jump through hoops to get anything done. They left after 3 months because of how awful it was.

There is nothing that I don't love about Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. My grandmother has been a resident here for over four and a half years. She absolutely loves it and the entire family loves the fact that she is receiving the best care possible. The entire staff is well trained and extremely professional. I personally feel very comfortable about this nursing home because none of the staff takes advantage of the residents. The food is made with the finest ingredients and with lots of time and care. My mother and I visit there at least twice per month and there has not been a time that we visited and it was not perfectly clean. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking into making their loved one a resident here. It is perfectly located for anyone that lives in New York City or Long Island. It is a much need bonus that the cost to stay at this facility is very reasonable.

There are plenty of stereotypes when it comes to assisted living homes. But despite of popular belief claims, sending a family member to live in one doesn't actually confine them to a life of sitting and playing cards. Gurwin Jewish residences sits on a 47-acre plot of land and has amenities you'd only dream of having at home - an outdoor Olympic-sized pool, manicured gardens, a theater and concert program, free membership to the Suffolk Y JCC - and a huge group of people to enjoy them with.Thumbs up in my book
