What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
The staff has ongoing training in dementia care. This is monthly and mandatory which is overseen by our Directors and Managers. We will also have outside speakers and professionals aiding in our training. At this time we have 5 Certified Dementia Practitioners on staff.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at Marquis Place. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
Our average age is 80 but we have 55 year olds up to a feisty, fun 99 year old! Our Residents love Bingo, cards, games, and plenty of entertainment including outings.
What programs or activities does Marquis Place offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We have everything for the mind, body, and soul. We have Genesis Physical Therapy on-site which leads part of our group exercises. We have many activities and clubs such as walking, gardening, Red Hat Society, Men's group, bible study, Art and sip wine, field trips such as lunches, Wal-Mart or Target, glass blowing, plays, etc, baking, casino and much more. What places are near Marquis Place or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
St. Patrick's Catholic church and Bethany Lutheran are nearby Marquis Place. They assist in many activities and events here. Elkhorn is a very tight-knit community which means the Residents have lots of love in this area inside and out! We offer our Residents outings to local restaurants, Wal-Mart, Target, Dollar Store, plays, movies and field trips.
What transportation services does Marquis Place offer to assisted living residents?
Marquis Place has it's own bus. We offer transportation to doctors' appointments and activities such as taste-testing ice cream all over Omaha, viewing Christmas lights, local restaurants, and field trips.
What makes the chef or dining program at Marquis Place exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
We offer three hot, homemade meals daily. The meals are not frozen or made somewhere else. We offer two entrees for lunch and dinner but Residents can choose a la carte if desired. All the meals are prepared here and served at your dining table. Residents and their families can eat together too.
What safety features or security measures does Marquis Place offer to assisted living residents?
Marquis Place includes emergency pendants that the Residents wear and can push when emergency assistance is needed. This is included in our Assisted Living pricing. We also have fire drills on a monthly basis as well as disaster planning to keep staff prepared for any events. We have wander guards for specific Residents with a care plan at an additional $150 per month. We keep our doors locked after 8 pm through 6 am. We have ongoing safety meetings - monthly and mandatory - for all staff members.
How does Marquis Place keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Communication is key at Marquis Place. We are transparent to all family members and feel their loved ones are an extension of our family. We have our eyes on all of our Residents from managers, staff, nursing and Genesis. We all communicate to each other and to families - it prevents falls, hospitalization and keeps all happy and informed.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at Marquis Place during daytime and nighttime hours?
Marquis Place has two CNAs and/or med aides which care for our Residents. We also have a Director of Nursing and Director of Memory Care who rotate their shifts - day and overnight - to make sure our staff gives excellent care to all of our Residents and follow best practices at Marquis Place.
If Marquis Place accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We do accept small pets. We have a garden courtyard which is spacious and green.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
We have ongoing safety as well as medical and community training which is monthly and ongoing. The training is mandatory and non-negotiable. We follow the best practices set forth by Capital Senior Living Corporation as well as the state guidelines.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We have three on duty both day and night. We also have a Director of Memory Care and Director of Nursing on staff as well. Both will rotate their shifts to make sure nights and days are following procedures and Residents are getting the best care possible from all of our staff.
What safety features or security measures does Marquis Place provide to protect residents who wander?
We provide a wander guard which is an additional $150 per month. If a Resident gets to close to the door then the alarm will sound and each staff member is notified through pagers that a Resident is too close to the door.
What programs or activities does Marquis Place offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
We offer many of the same activities as Assisted Living. We have two activity leaders - one for Assisted Living and one in Memory Care. We provide stimulating, cognitive, and fun activities to our Memory Care Residents from Bingo, baking, cards, and games. Throughout Memory Care, we have life stations including sorting, man-cave, gardening, pet area, fish tank, and more to engage not only the Residents but family members as well. We also have staff and an activity leader provide one on one with the Residents. We have a private Memory Care courtyard. We also include live entertainment for those interested plus sightseeing and field trips for those able to enjoy the bus outings. We have memory boxes by each room for Residents to help find their rooms.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
We have a Memory Care Director as well as Director of Nursing who can assess Residents. The assessments are ongoing. Staff, aides, managers, and even Genesis can communicate any changes to the Director as our Residents are our first priority. When a Resident decides to move to our community, an assessment must be done to determine the level of care. The directors will provide another assessment within 90 days after move-in, after that the assessments are ongoing. We are assessed at least every 6 months but again as the needs change the assessment can be changed as well.
What techniques does Marquis Place use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Memory Care is in another area from Assisted Living. The food is prepared the same and delivered to their area. The staff delivers the meals to each Resident in the Memory Care dining area. Residents are qued and assisted to all meals and activities.
How does Marquis Place keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Our Director of Nursing and Memory Care, as well as Executive Director, will be communicating with the families regarding any changes in the Resident's health. Marquis Place has an open-door policy for any concerns or issues that may arise over the course of the Resident's stay with us. We want to make sure all families are informed and know their loved one is well taken care of and feels loved by Marquis Place.
Describe the neighborhood around Marquis Place. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
Marquis Place is nestled in a residential area but visible from Maple Street. It has mature trees and lovely garden court areas.
Is Marquis Place affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
Marquis Place is not affiliated with any specific hospital. The Resident or POA has a choice of what hospital. Again, Marquis Place will be communicating any changes in health and developing a plan of care with the families and/or Residents. Our priority is our Residents.
