My mom moved into Springfield Villa. It was so welcoming and clean when I walked in. The facility was beautifully decorated. It was fully staffed. They were cleaning everywhere, and I loved that. It didn't have the smell of a nursing home. The staff was very welcoming and caring. It's a beautiful facility inside and outside. They have a courtyard. They have a beautiful activity room. The activities were posted, and they varied. I was most impressed with the staff. Several of them got down on my mom's level and talked to her. I loved that. They showed caring when they talked to her. The dining room was beautiful. My mom got there at dinnertime, so she went down to dinner. She looked happy and content, so I was happy with that.

I would give it a zero but that is not an option! Family member was only there for short rehab stint in memory care unit. It is hot and smells like hot urine, there for 6 days and discovered on day 5 that they have UNEXPLAINED HEAD TO TOE BRUISES, never had a glass of water (always had to request it and this family member is non-verbal after recent stroke), now hoards water glass, supposed to be checked on every 15 minutes and that was not happening. No remote for TV so, no TV for 6 days. They only turned it on when we asked them to. When they did go find one, it was removed after we left so she was left in the silence again. Bed tray was never used. Supposed to be fed due to stroke and I do not believe she was helped. Loved one was starving and eating everything once we removed them. I, personally, showed up late one evening and found my loved one on the hard floor in the dark and no one had any idea how long she had been there. Dentures were not brushed for days so dentures were so nasty the lips were stuck to them! (toothbrush still in sealed bag). Ended up having to stay there with this family member because the abuse was bad until we could get approval for transfer. No one watches the door at night for security. Door code is taped to the keypad so anyone can come in/out, not safe in my opinion that anyone can come in or out up until around 10:00 pm in the dark without anyone seeing them and prey on the elderly! My loved one was so dehydrated it was pitiful and this is a person who is still recovering from a big stroke and is prone to UTI's, which are common in the elderly. Every time we asked for a glass of water we would return and find the glass of water, TV remote, gone. Family member would be so thirsty they chugged the water down! They (management and staff) flat do not care. I was dealing with the Directory of Nursing and obviously got me nowhere to show what is happening. Our elderly deserve better than this!

Mercy Villa was horrible. My father was in there temporarily and I've known other residents there. The chaplain was wonderful, but they're just extremely short on staff. It's not clean and it's very sparse. The food was not good, and the accommodations were horrible. It's low income, and it is part of the Mercy Hospital System. I would not recommend it. The only time I'd recommend it is if the potential resident had absolutely no money because it's a roof over their head, but as far as accommodations, no. The only thing I can say is you can feel safe there. The staff was nice, but short. It's very disappointing. My dad spent 30 days there for rehab last year. Maintenance wise, we didn't have any problems because it was only short term.
