The facility is not appropriate for physical rehabilitation. My parent was in due to back pain and mobility issues. The residents were in need of memory care/dementia support. Residents were agitated, ill kept in terms of bathing and dressing and at times a danger to themselves. The facility was run down, dirty and noisy. Staff was pleasant but over whelmed by patient need and seemed to be lacking in training and general medical knowledge. Calls for bathroom assist went unanswered. My parent did not receive medication in a timely manner for pain management, food was poor and alternative options for meals were not offered. After 2 days the family agreed that home care with round the clock support would provide a safer and healthier recovery. Look carefully at this facility before you make a decision.

Worse place ever. My sister was admitted for rehab for breathing problems. Took 3 days to start breathing Treatment. Two weeks no shower or even sponge bath. Two weeks still waiting for socks and underwear and slippers to get back from being labeled. Two pairs of brand new slacks to be delivered to room. One day wait for morning meds still didn't get at 1:00 PM.

My grandfather received neglegent- if not abusive care. Was fed hours late, they refused him solid food (though he had doctor's permission), Was left unchanged for hours and was missing money and personal items. This place is being reported. I would not send my loves ones here.

This facility is either way under staffed or just doesn't care that call buttons on average take 45 minutes. Telling people it's ok to wet the bed as adults is disgraceful for these people. Adults apologizing and feeling ashamed is not how are senior adults should be treated. as it is doing nothing for their health. Most of these people are here for rehab, going back home hopefully soon before their self esteem has been destroyed. . Worse thing is most of your family members will not tell you as they are embarrassed. We only know because we have witnessed it. Told please do not tell anyone because I am embarrassed. Sad as too how many are not getting good care and now hiding things from their family and friends.

My father stayed at sanctuary on the shore. The place was recommended to me. It had a very good location. It is on a main drive. They were trying to accommodate us. They did not do their job. They did not watch what they were doing; he gained an infection and died within 8 days of coming into that facility. It was unfortunate. I think they were not communicating very well with each other.

My mom received horrible care here. She required oxygen 24/7 and we found her with empty oxygen tanks 6 times In 1 week. She was always wet. Found they would cover up wet bedding by putting dry pads on top to hide it. Takes them a really long time to answer call lights, average 15-45 minutes (we often timed it). They always seem short staffed. The place smells like urine seems dirty.

This facility took care of both my paternal grandmother and a cousin on my father's side as well. The facility is right on the main drag in Grand Haven which makes it easy to get to. While the building might not look like much on the outside, the inside of the facility is very nice. There is a small courtyard garden as well as one in back. It is very nice to go out and look at and to take people out to. Sanctuary also has a nice chapel, two beautiful dining/activity rooms, some common/family rooms and a little beauty shop where a cosmetician would come in twice a week. The staff was always friendly and willing to help with any request though they were a little overworked at times. They were very supportive during the passing of my cousin and my grandmother. The only real complaint I have is that the alarm system would go off every time someone tried to go outside. I understand that the system has to be set after visiting hours are over but I feel that they did not need to be set during the day as this made it very hard for us to go outside or leave without setting off a loud alarm or requiring the assistance of a nurse to turn the alarm off. Still, this was a relatively minor annoyance on the grand scale of things. My cousin and grandmother were both happy there and the staff took excellent care of them. Also on the plus side, this facility accepts Medicaid. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to place a family member or relative that is unable to care for themselves. Though it will be several years until I have to worry about it, I would definitely consider placing my parents here if the time ever came that I couldn't take care of them anymore.

Very helpful staff from the minute we walked in to the complex. Our grandmother was here for almost a year and we were witness to several upgrades and advances within the facility which furthered our opinions. One of the most exciting improvements that were made while my grandmother was in this facility was the addition of the birds in the entrance way. On several occasions we would be on our way to see our grandmother and we would find her, and several other residents, absolutely transfixed by the birds and all of their movements throughout their cage. Along with this great experience, the new dining room floors really impressed us along with the in-house physical therapy unit which was incredible. The staff was also a great assist within this nursing community because they continually went above and beyond what was expected of them to make everyone in our family feel comfortable and at home. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend this unit.
