It is a really small place, so everyone is kind of together. They don't really have a unit for one thing or another there. It is a Christian oriented place, so there is an emphasis on faith for people like church services. They have lots of things for people to do. It's older, so it's not as modern as some. The rooms are very small, and they don't have a lot of rooms for couples there. It's more oriented towards single people. The lady that took us around was very nice, knowledgeable, and kind. They realize they don't have some of the things that a bigger place might have, but they really emphasize community. People will be well known because there's not that many people there. It's different than being in a great big place where you kind of get lost in the shuffle. They had a little sun porch that you could go on, and they had meals.

When Mom was recovering from a TIA in a nursing home, she realized how much she enjoyed living with other people. For thirty years after Daddy died, she had lived alone. Gradually her physical stamina had diminished and her world grew smaller and smaller. Less driving, no longer able to attend church, she decided that she didn't want to go ut back to an empty house. After visiting all the available assisted living facilities in the Grand Haven area, I took her to Christian Haven. We toured the facility and as we left, Mom said, "This is the only place that speaks to my spirit." I could rave about the fabulous made-from-scratch food, the 15 activities each week, the phenomenal medical staff, the gentle shower aids, and the immaculate housekeeping. All are amazing. But the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual nurturing is is priceless. Mom is happy, safe, and content. I thank God every day for Christian Haven.

Mom moved in a couple of weeks ago. We chose the place as we had a reference from a couple of friends who had relatives there. Everyone seemed very nice and helpful, and they answered all our questions that we had. The staff is helpful and friendly. She is in a pretty private room, and the size is good; there is enough room for a bed, a couple of chairs, and a TV. The dining area is very nice, but mother is a bit picky so sometimes she likes the food and sometimes she doesn’t. The place is more a reflection of her. They have several different activities: floor exercising activities, religious activities, and games. I would recommend the facility. I really don’t think you could find a better place where the people are nicer and concern is more about the welfare.
