My father is in Highland Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. They're going through a management change. I find that the nursing staff on his floor is not very attentive. They're almost lazy. I've been trying to get the toilet fixed in my father's room for months now. The plumbing hasn't been great. They've had a cockroach problem, and I was told that they sent exterminators there for that. They're also working on a couple of elevators that have been out of order for some time. The food is, according to my father, absolutely horrible. He is very unhappy there. The hospital actually transferred him in there without my knowledge. I had just finished up a tour and was going to see one more place, but they had him moved from the hospital the next day after I did my tour, without notifying me. I did not choose this place; the hospital did. It's been a very stressful situation. As far as the location and where it's at, it's in a great area. The view from the window is Highland Park, and you have the Boys and Girls Club right adjacent to it. You have water views, and it's right on the water. It is really pretty. I understand they're transitioning through different management and working on things. I know they've had employees outside picketing, and they're short-staffed. At the end of the day, when you're paying out of pocket over $16,000 a month, you should be getting a much better quality of care. When he arrived there, he had a wound on his back that was almost healed, and now it looks awful. I highly recommend people go there and try to visit during different times, and just make sure that their loved one is not moved in there without them knowing before they make a decision. The people who work there, like the director and folks in finance, are very responsive, but they have a lot to work out. They are still working out the kinks. They do an outstanding job on the activities that they offer. I've seen the area where they set up the activities and what kinds of activities they have. Unfortunately, my father is just who he is and wants nothing to do with anybody in the place because he's very unhappy.
