Our Mom was here for 6 wks. I cant say enough about the entire staff. Beginning with the receptionist, nurse, aides, events and food staff everyone was great. Last but not least all of the therapists were so caring and attentive as well as Karen her case worker. Thank you for everything!

I don’t even know where to start. When looking for a facility for our 92 year old mother who fell and broke her hip we found sterling care riverside listed 5 star!!! They come no where near a 5 star! Trying to get her physical therapy and occupational therapy done on a daily basis is a joke. It’s been11 days since her surgery and she has had 2 sessions with OT and 2 sessions of PT. She is not allowed to be taken into the bathroom. She is told to poop in her diaper and we will clean you up which could be hours later. She is loosing her dignity!!! She just lays in bed. This morning she had a coughing spell and threw up all over herself and her bedding. She was given one blanket that was slightly soiled because they had no clean sheets or blankets. We had to go home and get her a clean blanket. When they clean her soiled diaper they use a pan of hot soapy water and a washcloth that they keep dipping in the water and reuse the same washcloth. We have since provided wipes and disposable wash clothes to be used on her. Yes I do have some positive things to say. She has had a few GNA that have gone above and beyond taking care of her. Thank you to the few who care. Nurses are only seen to give medications which are never on time. The nurses button they give the patients shouldn’t even be there. Because they pay no attention to it. Let’s just say we will be looking for other means of care ASAP!!!!

I have a dear friend who is a patient there as I write this. She is having many problems with the night staff. She is there for rehabilitation following a hip replacement. Her bed collapsed last night at the bottom and it took hours for someone to respond. She had spoken to the owner about concerns with the night shift and he seemed concerned, but, nothing had changed. I would think twice about using this facility according to my friend's complaints. She is s an understanding person, but sees the neglect there. I hope she's out soon.

My husband was a patient here. While visiting him, my son and I noticed feces on the floor and mold in the heating and air conditioning unit. ( I have photos) This facility is rundown and in dire need of repairs and updating. There are no bathrooms in the rooms. Patients are expected to make it to communal bathrooms. This is not only a safety hazard but also a covid risk. He did fall and contracted covid! My husband was short of breath and had rapidly declined within 24 hours of arriving. I had to insist he be transferred to a hospital. He was positive for covid and severely dehydrated. How long would he have laid in bed on soiled linens and gasping for air? Do not send your loved ones to this facility! The staff seemed overwhelmed and unequipped to deal with patients.

My mother had a Stimulator placed in her back for chronic pain. She developed an infection and had to have it removed. Her surgeon was great and so was the hospital she was at. Her surgeon wanted her up and moving around and to start PT ASAP. The hospital had a great PT dept. but they felt it was too aggressive. My mom ended up at Sterling. The first couple of days she was asleep when anyone would I visit and when taken for PT she couldn’t even stand up, she kept falling back into her her. I asked the nurses and they “had no clue”. I requested a copy of her medication list when I spoke to the Dr. it was clear as glass why she was sleeping and couldn’t sit up on the bed without tipping over. The medications she was taken was so maddening. She was taken a large amount of muscle relaxers, Nerve meds and a list of other meds. I asked the Dr if he even examined her or went through any of the medical reports from her Dr. she want even taken pain meds when she left the hospital. The Dr then surprisingly asked what I thought she should be taking. After going through the meds I made it quite clear at least 1 family member would be there everyday and if she’s not getting her PT but charging her insurance or anything is out of sorts I would personally see that I shed light on it to whoever would listen. After that they were more attentive to her needs. Almost 2 weeks later I get a call that my mom is on oxygen because she couldn’t breathe. Instead of her being in the hospital or even on her way there, she was still at Sterling. When I got there I was explosively mad. When she gets to the hospital it was discovered she had blood clots in her lungs as well as her heart. She was placed on a blood thinner for 6 months but recovered from it. I felt genuinely bad for the other residents that were there who didn’t have anyone checking on them. The lack of care was so disturbing and should never be allowed to continue. I would urge people to go check on family or even friends if they are in facilities like that. If they are anything like this you would truly be concerned if you care enough.

Don’t go to Sterling of Riverside! We read the rating and should have never left my husband there. The manager Donald & case manager reassured us they would take care of him. He went in on the 12/29/20 at 9:30 for rehab. Was supposed to have a consultation 12/30 never did. On 12/31 was rushed to the ER, sugar was 811. He couldn’t breathe & was not responsive. Four days to get his sugar straightened out. We reluctantly had to send him back to Sterling on 1/5 8:30 pm. When he got there he was so upset, they couldn’t find his clothes and he said they were really mean to him. I should have never left him there. On 1/7 at 5am my daughter gets a call and said he had passed away. No answers why. I asked if they checked his sugar through the night and said last time was at 10:30 & it was 124. Nurse said it was against protocol to check it during the night. I told her it was common sense to check it because he just came out of the hospital. Every Rehab or Hospital always checked it every 3-4 hours. We called back and talked to Donald the manager again & he couldn’t give us any answers to what went wrong. My husband & I were married for 51 years and I took care of him and to go through this is devastating. In my heart they didn’t check his sugar and he went low causing him to go into a diabetic coma. We lost a loving, devoted, caring husband, Father and Poppy. Hard to get through each day knowing we should have never left him there. Heartbroken family.

This facility lacks a good method of communication with the staff. Lives up to the old saying...."If you want to not be disturbed for an hour or two, just ring for the nurse." After eventually receiving a response to the call bell for a nurse & pain meds from the aide assigned, nothing happened. Often had to ring for help several times before finally receiving the needed meds and/or pain meds which came anywhere from one to five hours from time of request. A few nurses were excellent and the OT and PT people were without exception wonderful. Not aware that any activities NOR amenities were available. Couldn't get out of this place soon enough in order to get home and start to heal.
Glad I got out alive

It was not the room that bad. It was lack of care. I was there for four months. In that time I only about 4 or 5 showers. Weekend staff was horrible. There days were stayed soiled for hours. Food was unpleasant. There days I pray to died it was so bad. I hope for the current resident it is better.

The therapy staff is top notch, the management team is trying, but not very successful. The aides do their best and are ALWAYS short staffed because management doesn't treat them correctly. The nurses try their best, but have no support from the invisible doctors. The rooms are small, outdated, and unless you get lucky, no flatscreen TV. Most rooms have these outdated hanging TVs that are so small you can't see them without a magnifying glass. The curtains separating the beds are dirty and never cleaned. The beds are so old, the mattresses are getting worn through. I have been waiting for a new bed for months. The way it's going I will be out of here before it happens. The food is decent if you like pork chops or fatty chicken. Those 2 things get served every other day.

I would not put my dog in this place, the beds are antique, the staff is a joke! If you want your loved ones to survive don't even call them. The administration makes promises and ask for your trust ! My mother died in the hands of Sterling Care Riverside. We are not getting the truth from the staff or administration. 2 different stories. She was told several times "you have a diaper on use it".

My grandmother has been here for 2 weeks. They moved her room without letting us know. She didn't have a phone for a week and we didn't even know it. The phone would just ring and we thought she just wasn't answering it. Once we found out she didn't have a phone, we asked for her to have one, and a week later she still doesn't have one. The flowers we ordered for her stayed in her old room and we had to ask them to find them. We also sent in candy and some of her favorite foods and they never made it to her room. The communication is pitiful in this facility. I'm sure the nurses aides are taking good care of her because my grandmother likes them but the actual medical care and overall organization/communication of the higher ups/doctors is non existent.

My family member was neglected and mistreated at Sterling Care Riverside in Belcamp. I’am beyond disgusted with their lack of care! The staff says they are fine but in our case they were far from fine.

My mom has been at Riverside/Sterling Care Center now three times. I was very disappointed with the care this time and ended up requesting for her to be discharged due to the care. My mom was there for rehab, but she roomed with a long term care patient. She was admitted on a Saturday but did not have actual hands on therapy until Tuesday. There was an odor every time I visited. The communication and follow-up for my concerns was lacking. My mom had her nails done and only 1/2 were done due to running out of materials. This was very distressing to my mom. Overall our experience this time was poor.

I visited the facility and was given a tour by staff. The interior is very clean and spacious. The staff was very cordial and friendly. I was given several pamphlets detailing various activities and programs scheduled at the facility. I met a few of the residents...they seemed at home in their surroundings. Overall, I would recommend Lorien to anyone looking to place a loved one.
