I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is at Courtyard Estates at Cedar Pointe. The people are very helpful, and they take good care of him. It's a smaller community, and he shares an apartment with another guy. He gets his own bedroom, and then they share a living room and a bathroom. There's also a large dining room, and an area where families can go and have dinner or meet with the residents. There's a large patio outside of his window that when it gets warmer, he can go out on. They do some activities like bible studies, bingo, and movie nights.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife just moved into Courtyard Estates at Cedar Pointe. I haven't seen her since she moved over there, but I have an appointment to see her tomorrow. But I've been over there and went through the facility and it was very nice. The older people seemed real nice, I got to talk to some of the residents there, and they seemed to be happy. And I talked to some of the people that worked there, like the assistant manager, and she said that my wife is adjusting really well. She had a nice room, probably not as nice as the room she had in her previous community, but there's a difference of about $2,000 in price of the residence. The other places were quite a bit higher. They're a lot smaller units, but all the people that I've talked to, most of them seemed to have been there for quite a while. The lady who does the cooking for them has been there for 12 years and she's really nice. The assistant manager and manager were both really nice and willing to do anything. I was able to put on safety PPE gear, I already had a mask on, and was able to go in and help put stuff in her room. They do a lot of different things because they got a big bus and they take around the ones that can go to different places. It's a very small unit, they only have 37 residents, and I think they take good care of them. I saw a lot of people being helped to their room, I saw the people that are out in the common area eating, and the ladies who work there were watching and helping there. Everything I saw seemed to be good.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The rooms are around ninety degrees in the winter. But they fix it by opening the windows all the way. So if they really wanted to escape, the only thing between them and freedom is a thin plastic screen. The rooms are not cleaned well or at all. We found pills on the floors. But they will clean out all new towels and they are never seen again. They get to pick their meals, but staff doesn’t tell them their options. Just put food in front of them. They don’t change bed sheets often at all. They don’t do their laundry, but when they do, they don’t put it away. They just dress them in their roommates clothes that are 4 sizes too small. They don’t assist with showers unless the family complains. And the excuses for your loved one not receiving the services that they are paying big bucks for is quite amusing. In fact, the best thing about this place is the lady that does activities with them. At least she does what she can with what she has been given. I even had to call the police one day when I was there after being verbally attacked by the nurse and another employee because my Mother in law had no clothes in her closet or dresser for days and her room was still so hot you couldn’t stand to be in it after SEVERAL FIX IT TICKETS. She has been moved out, thank GOD.

I visited this facility

I toured Courtyard Estates. It seemed fine, and clean. Their assisted-living apartments were very tiny, and really cramped for the price.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We chose Courtyard Estates for my sister-in-law mostly because it’s 100% Alzheimer’s facility. They had more space, and the whole facility is memory care. It is very homey. She has a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living and kitchenette area combined. The staff seemed to really care. They are friendly to everybody; the residents, the visitors, and family. The food is delicious, she does participate in activities, and that is one area though I think there is probably some room for improvement, but I am sure that they know their residents better than I do. I visited other places where I saw their activity calendars, and there was a lot more a variety of activities.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking time to respond to your experience at Courtyard Estates Assisted Living in Pleasant Hill and for noticing how genuine and caring the staff is to all who visit or live at our community! It is very homey and spacious and designed with memory care resident in mind! At our other communities that offer assisted living and a separate assisted living community the "Gardens" for memory care residents you will notice a very full and varied calendar for the assisted living and a more structured calendar with equal number of activities but much more routine for the Garden which is for those needing memory care. For our residents making there home in our Gardens routine is important for there success so we tend to do activities that the residents enjoy more often and when we get a new resident we adjust as needed to make sure that all residents are engaged in activities that truly enriches there daily experience. Thanks again for your noticing what a great environment is being created at Courtyard Estates Assisted Living Community. I visited this facility

The Courtyard Estates assisted living facility looked really well-kept from the outside. We were looking for a suitable place for our aunt to live. The grounds featured nice patio areas that also had ample places to host private parties. The main room had a nice, homey living room feel. We could see from the communal areas that many stimulating activities were taking place, occurring, from reading to games and other resident socializing. They host monthly parties for residents at the facility which they encourage friends and family to attend. Events and outings scheduled include visits to restaurants, art museums, the library, local films and theater. The dining areas featured both communal and formal dining. Food choices were plentiful and all looked nutritious and delicious, as well as the regular snacks - which are offered all day and whenever requested. The staff here are attentive and kind. We could see that all of the residents needs are met and that they enjoy living here.
