I visited this facility

I toured Family For Mom. That was a good tour. They were very polite. They seemed like they cared a lot about the rest of us. I just felt like it wasn't a good fit for my grandmother because she's kind of in the beginning stages of dementia and that's a private care facility, so it's not really like on-staff doctors and stuff like that. It's just a big house with a lot of room and the family lives in and they help stay with the residents all day and take care of them. They've got like a whole stairlift and everything. You have all the meals together and that stuff. So it seemed like a very good environment for lighter care. They had a little common area with a TV and some other stuff. They would also go out and occasionally do things like going to the grocery store or going to see a movie, things of that manner. They do drive them to appointments.

Provider Response

Hi Eric, thank you so much for posting a review of our home. We appreciate your visit very much! We do want to clarify that we are a full care private home, experienced with all stages of dementia & other challenges of aging including hospice care. We are pleased that you wrote that our home isn't like a facility with Dr.'s & nurses etc, because we want it to look & feel like a real home to our residents! We sincerely hope you find the perfect place for your grandmother & that she will be well cared for & most of all happy. We remember you told us that you were the only one she has & we are thankful that you are there for her.

We were looking for a place that would care for my mom the way we would, and we found that place at A Family For Mom. The Metzler family puts the residents that are in their care first. In all aspects of the day; from grooming, to feeding, to engaging in activities, to constant communication with the resident’s loved ones, there are so many reasons to feel at ease! I love the personal updates, photos, and videos offered throughout the day, and I feel like the Metzler family have become an extended part of our family now! Best of all, I am assured that my mother is receiving the attention she needs and deserves. With around the clock care,, the Metzler’s are always there to support my mother with kindness and dignity. We have noticed positive improvements in her quality of life since mom has become a part of .this special place, A Family For Mom.

Provider Response

Hi Angie, We are literally blushing after reading your review. We are so appreciative to hear that you are happy with our services. Your mother has been such a gift to our home! We welcome a long and loving relationship with her, and your family is definitely an extension of our family! Thank you so much for sharing!

I visited this facility

A Family For Mom only takes like 4 or 5 people. The people that they had were in an advanced stage of dementia where they were inactive. I thought it was depressing. It's run by a family, and they were very nice. The place was clean. They were cooking dinner, and it looked like they all ate dinner around the table like a family. But I found the place depressing. They're taking people who are in a pretty advanced memory care stage and it's too small of a population to be diverse enough. They do the job, but it just wasn't right for my sister.

Provider Response

Jean, thank you for taking the time to visit our home & post a review. We realize our home may not be a fit for all but we do our best to provide a loving family environment for our residents regardless of their mental or physical limitations. We sincerely hope you find a community that provides care and happiness for your sister!

Gloria and her family ~ "A Family for Mom" was a true Godsend! With only the best interest of finding my mom a safe, secure and comfortable place to reside. My family had researched multiple homes and locations but were never completely comfortable with a portion of the care or services. Until my sister discovered A Family for Mom; this was an answer to our prayers. It's a true home (and they live in that style of setting), where the ladies are taken good care of, respected and allowed to be themselves while being looked after. We love and support Gloria!

Provider Response

Hi Tim, I thank you so much for your thoughtful review! It was our pleasure to know & care for your mom Audrey. We love & miss all of you so much! It's also very heart warming to hear how much you appreciated us. -Gloria, Owner

I visited this facility

We went to look at A Family for Mom. The staff was very sweet. She showed us the house and the bedroom that my mom would stay in with the private bath. The facility was very clean and well-kept. They just have a sitting room for watching TV. I would take my mom there in a heartbeat, but my sisters are too far away.

Provider Response

Thank you Paul! It was our pleasure to meet you & your family & we appreciate your review! Say "Hi" to Pat from all of us.

My mother has lived here for more than five years, after she was no longer able to live alone at home. The environment is very family-oriented, and the ladies receive excellent, compassionate care from the wonderful, competent staff. Rather than just being a "homelike environment" this is an actual home. The dining room offers a nice view of the pond, and my mom loves to watch the ducks and birds. There is a beautiful deck the ladies can enjoy on nice days. Meals are home-cooked and delicious. If you are looking for assisted living for a family member or loved one, please check out A Family for Mom. Absolutely recommend as a safe, loving, family-oriented home for senior ladies.

Provider Response

Thank you for reviewing our home Melissa! We love caring for your mom and both of you are definitely part of our family! We will give her a hug for you & look forward to you joining us for dinner on Sunday!

I was extremely blessed to have such a caring, supportive and homelike atmosphere for my family member. Gloria and her staff pay so much attention to everyone’s needs. My relative was there for several years and was always happy. She was able to have her own room and bathroom. I was always informed of any concerns noticed about any changes noted in her health. Naomi was always happy there and enjoyed the little dogs that lived there. Gloria and her staff genuinely care for their client and treat them like family. Can’t say enough good things about my experiences. It’s rare to find a place that shows such care and concern for others and does it so well.

Provider Response

Thank you for reviewing our home Joy! It means so much to know you appreciated our care of Naomi, we miss her very much!

My experience has been wonderful. My mother has Alzheimer's and she is living under the care of Mrs. Gloria and her family, and that is how we feel, as a family. They take care of the patients with great dedication, are attentive to the last detail, and it is amazing that my mother does not speak English, and even so, they have been able to communicate with her to attend to her and make her feel very well. If you have a family member who requires this type of care, I highly recommend Mrs. Gloria

A Family for Mom provided professional, loving care to my mother for nearly 7 years. The trusted and dedicated staff ensured my mother’s dignity until the very end and I could not be more grateful. The home is beautiful and well-kept; Gloria and her team are skilled, have a wealth of knowledge and possess servant-hearts. In addition to the first-rate care they provided to my mother, the collaborative approach and support they offered to me and my family exceeded my high expectation. We are forever grateful. A Family for Mom holds our respect and highest recommendation.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother, who struggled with dementia, was a resident of a Family for Mom for almost 10 years. She had lived in a number of other facilities for short periods of time but due to bad experiences and poor care, we continually had to search for a place where we could trust that she would receive quality care. A Family for Mom is truly a family setting. The residents have meals with the family members which is not only good for them socially but they all can enjoy Gloria's delicious meals together. My mother was always well-groomed and cared for, which wasn't the case in other facilities. I was always welcome to visit my mother anytime. I appreciated the values of a Family for Mom that was evident in their care. Residents are respected and cared for with dignity, no matter what the challenges. There was regular communication with the staff and I was immediately notified of any change in my mother's condition. After so many horrible experience in local assisted living/nursing home facilities, we were so very grateful to have found a Family for Mom. Knowing that she was truly a loved member of a second family was such a blessing.

The setting in a family home offers comfortable, welcoming, and familiar surroundings. Daily routines, developed with years of experience, provide structure and help preserve function and mobility with regular interaction. Family visitors are always welcome. It was wonderful to be able to sit out on the porch on fine days. My father regularly would spend the afternoon together with my mother and stay for dinner with the group of residents around the dining table. Not only did this provide companionship and assistance for my mother, but it was a great social support for my father - and the 5-day sauerbraten was a highlight when I came from out of town to visit! The home-cooked food, cooked from family recipes and eaten together in a family group, nourished at many levels. The proprietors developed this model of care to overcome the shortcomings of the institutional care model. I cannot say enough about the value of personalized attention in a beautiful home setting and the integrity of the management.

Gloria and family took the best care of my mom. My mom had Alzheimer’s and my siblings and I looked at so many options for her care, many of them much more expensive with much less personal care. It was such a relief, and truly a gift, when we found Gloria. She and her family met with us immediately and answered all our questions and put all our concerns at ease. We could visit our mom whenever we wanted and she always seemed in good spirits. A Family for Mom was truly an answer to our prayers.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for posting your review. We really appreciate it! It warms our hearts to know how you feel about our home & quality of care your mother received. We loved having her & all of you in our family!
