"We got a reservation to put my mom in Garnett Place. We like the overall set-up of it. The apartments are nice size. Where her apartment will be is close to the lunch room, and there is a nice little sitting area outside. The staff is very friendly. The girl that we met with a couple of times was always very receptive and very cooperative in answering any questions. The only drawback to me was where it is located. It was a little dark, but other than that, it was very nice. "

"My mother is moving into Grand living at Indian Creek. I've been there a few times. It's only a couple of years old. It's like a hotel. It's very spacious. They have lots of amenities, and it's just the best fit for my mother. They have an in-house center, an exercise area, a salon, and a spa. They've got three different eating areas, a separate library, an open area, an auditorium, lots of outside seating, and a garden area."

"Keystone Place is a warm and friendly facility with a wonderful staff. They have many activities to enjoy. The facility is kept very clean which is important. Living at Keystone Place is like being on a lifetime cruise. "

"Of all the places I've visited, this one's immaculately clean. It's just marvelously clean! I would have to say that the staff there was the friendliest and nicest I've ever met in all the places I've been! I like what they have to offer, that if you don't want to cook for yourself you could just go down and get a meal or whatever meal. Outside, the whole area was nice, they had flowers, pretty landscape, and had a place where you could go out and walk and get your exercise. Other places I've visited didn't have that. There was one thing my children didn't like about it though. The people there were all extremely old people and inactive. My children were concerned about it because yes, I'm old, but I'm just 66 and they think I might end up getting really old and inactive like the people around me. Well, I don't have anything against it. There might be active people there but the ones I saw were extremely old and quiet. Well, if I was really, really old, it's a wonderful place to go to. "

"We visited and the apartment was very nice. Everything was quite handy and clean. They had laundry facilities for free. We ate there, and the meals were good with options for people with diabetes. There were a couple of gals that chatted with us who were residents and told us different things about the facility. It had a lot of perks. We were very impressed. It was huge with one side a nursing home and the other side assisted living. We visited the assisted living. For the most part, it was reasonable, and had the circumstances been a little bit different, we would move our relative up there. She was in Kansas and did not really want to leave, and when we checked on the finances, she could not afford it either. They allow small cats, which was good because she had a cat that she could not live without."

"My mother will be moving into Boyson Heights. The place is lovely and the staff is very helpful. The residents seem very happy. We're pretty happy with it. The list of activities that they have every day looks very nice."

"When I visited this place, they said they were going to completely remodel it. Their staff was good, they answered all of my questions, and they were very accommodating. The lady that showed me around the place was very nice and friendly. She was very informative and went into details of what they were going to remodel and everything else. They seem to keep the place clean and nice. I like that they have a very spacious parking lot, so if family and friends come to visit, there's parking available not just for the residents. "

"The Villas at Stoney Point was very nice but so expensive. They have arts and crafts, outings, and a library. They have a swimming pool and an exercise room. They also have a nice pathwalk. We tried their food during the tour and it was very good."

"My mom moved into The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. It's ten minutes from my house and from my grandchildren, and that was a big thing. If she would have to go into assisted living, she does not need to move from the apartment that she's in, and that was a big plus. They have a beautician that comes in by appointment. They also have a bath technician by appointment, where you can have a spa-type thing that my mom was really excited about. They have activities that you can go to. They have a community area where they have happy hour. They provide music and entertainment for the residents. They did some special things for Valentine's Day, which I thought was very thoughtful. They have a big area with a TV and a fireplace where families can meet. They provide three meals a day, and my mom seems to be enjoying the meals. They provide a cleaning service and laundry. The cable is included in the price. The staff has just been terrific. They've been very friendly and helpful. It's a very nice-looking facility, inside and out."

"I toured HallMar Village. It's an affiliated and established facility, but the memory care unit is brand new. Only 20 residents, 24-hour care, 24-hour transportation, social events with additional cost to monitor my mom's medications, and three meals a day in a beautiful, spacious dining area. I liked this facility better than any of the facilities I viewed in my home state of Arizona because this one comes with a kitchen. No stove or oven, but a full refrigerator, sink, cabinets, and microwave. The floors were carpeted, not hardwood, which is fine for a private home, but when you have people on walkers or people who have difficulty walking, it just has a very cold feeling to it when it's hardwood or tiles. It had a very homey feeling. The rooms were beautiful, they were spacious, and none of them faced a parking lot. They all faced either a field or something, that was nice to view from their window, which I also appreciated. Nothing was locked up. I only met the director and she was as sweet as could be, very helpful, and very personable. She met my mother and talked to my mom extensively. The only other person with the facility that I had any contact with was when they did my mom's assessment, and that was with the primary nurse. But all very personable, answering all questions and concerns. They were wonderful."

"I was surprised at how many different style apartments Summit Pointe had to offer, I was also surprised the building was almost 20 years old. It is very well kept both inside and out. The apartments were great, on our visit we met so many kind staff members!"

"I chose Amana Retirement Community Lakeview Village. The price was much better and I didn't have to make a deposit. The staff was very good and it has a very good reputation. There's nursing home care, independent living and assisted living. I can choose from those depending on the need that I have at the time that I enter there. I inquired about independent. The rent was very reasonable and affordable for independent living and for nursing home care. A large private room in the nursing home wing was 235 for a daily rate. They had an exercise room, a recreation room and activities. I'm familiar with the administrator and I feel good about her. Everything is well done and taken care of there."

"My mother will be moving into Stirlingshire of Coralville. I like the setting. It's in a forested area. The people were all very pleasant and nice. The menu looked great. The dining area was very wide open and you can look into the forest. It's very clean. It's only a year and a half old. They have daily activities from arts and crafts to music to painting. It's a lot. The staff was very accommodating."
