Independent Living Communities in Carrollton, GA

"My brother went to Carrollton Club. The place is very nice, very clean, and very quiet. I think they serve them one meal a day, and then they cook for the rest of it. They have their own kitchen and everything. It's a bedroom, a living room, and a full kitchen with a stove and refrigerator. They can have a pet. It's about $200 extra for a pet, just one and not over 20 pounds. It's convenient to the VA and pretty close to the hospital. They have bus service three days a week. They take you to the grocery store and to places that you need to go inside the county. I think it's a very good place. If I had to be by myself and have a place to live, I wouldn't mind living there. It's not like your house, of course, but I would feel safe there. Everyone that we've met over there has been very friendly and very cooperative. I didn't have any contact with the staff. My husband did, and he was pleased. They were easy to work with and very helpful. They have a cleaning service, a garbage service, and a laundry room (not in their apartment, but in the building that is convenient and very reasonably priced). I think he's going to be pleased there. He has to pay his electric bill. They have a lot of open spaces, dining rooms, and things that people can gather and associate with each other. I thought it was a nice setup."

"We have friends that have moved into The Claiborne at Newnan Lakes. We have gone to their functions there and looked at it. It looked like they had excellent meals, and they had a caring staff. They have a lot of activities, and they're close to a lot of medical care, which is important as we age. They're 5 minutes from the hospital, so if there's any emergency, that's important. They had an open house. They had a barbecue, and they had some entertainment and things. We met our friends that we've known for years that moved in there, and they were really pleased with it. It's a relatively new facility. Everything is bright and sparkling new and it's easy to get to for people visiting. They've had speakers come in and people talking about memory care. They were really helpful to show what they may offer in the future should we need that. That's good that they offer those things in advance of having to make those decisions. Everything is well maintained, everything is very new, and the staff seems very helpful. The activities seemed reasonable. "

"The activities here in Ashlynn Ridge 55+ Apartments are good. We have a pavilion in the back with a barbecue grill, swings, and a koi pond. We also have a gym, a theater room, and a beauty salon. It's just that when it comes to the rent and stuff (I've been here for a few months), they are raising the rent already."

"The thing I liked most about Foster Place Senior Living is that it was close to our residence. It won't take us long to get over there and visit and check up on our mom. It is a beautiful, rustic apartment community. The bungalows are very nice. The neighbors are close together. It's a nice community, very quiet, and very clean. I just felt right away as soon as we walked in the door that it would be a good fit for us. They're surrounded by greenery. Everybody keeps up their own property. There's a lot more freedom for families to come and go. Mom's got a two-bedroom as opposed to just one room and it's more like what she's used to. The staff was fantastic. She followed up with us. The facility was a bit older. The apartments looked like they were built a while back. It's just like regular apartments. She could still have the same type of freedom as she did before."

"I looked at a place named The Phoenix at Dallas. It's independent living and the place has cottages. The one I visited was a one-car garage unit and I liked it. It has two large bedrooms, and the master bedroom can hold a king-sized bed while the other can hold a queen-size bed. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a pretty nice-sized bathroom. The other bedroom has a regular closet and another bathroom, so the place has two full bathrooms with showers. There's a pretty nice kitchen with all the things that you want in it like the refrigerator with an ice maker. It has a sink where you can put barstools. It has a nice-sized pantry. The living room is small but it has a washer and dryer that comes with the apartment. Going out each of the bedroom doors has a patio. There are two patios, one in the front and one in the back. All the bills are paid including the water and the electricity. The cottages cost a little bit more but you don't have to do lawn care. They provide meals at a minimal cost. You just have to order 24 hours in advance if you want it delivered to your cottage. I met the assistant director and he was very helpful. The atmosphere is peaceful and the people are very friendly. They have an activity building with a swimming pool. They also have an outside area where you can play checkers. It's a new facility and a beautiful community. It's a little costly but there are ways to help you pay for it. They also give discounts for veterans and their spouses so you have ways to get help through the VA."

"What I like the most about Amberley Senior Living is that it's quiet, they keep it clean, and it's pretty. It's a nice setting, and beautiful. They have an excellent maintenance guy. If something is wrong, he'll get to it right away. My apartment is cozy. They call them apartments, but it's more like a duplex. It's clean. Everyone is friendly. I haven't run into anybody who is not friendly. They have activities, but I haven't joined them. They have exercise for activities, they have a clubhouse where they have a pool table, and then they play cards and games. Once a month they have a potluck, and sometimes they'll go out to dinner."

"The hallways at The Legacy at Walton Mill were so long and I couldn't walk very far, but the staff was very nice and very good. The rooms have a kitchen, a living room, doesn't have a dining room, but it's got a bar area, a small bedroom, and a bathroom. It's very nice but it's just the rooms were small for me."

"I’m on a waiting list at Hearthside for two years and I know I’m close to the top of the list. The place is just close and walking distance to shops, walking passed restaurants. The rooms have built-in kitchen, solid countertop bar, and you have option to a 1 or 2-bedroom or even 1 or 2-baths. I like it a lot because of where it is. It’s my first choice. The staff seem very cordial and nice. The place is full and everybody seems to be happy there. It’s probably the most attractive to me and my wife. We’re handicap but we’re still able to live independently. I’m legally visually impaired and my wife has Parkinson’s, but we’re able to get around. We need each other’s help, so we need to find a place that’s really conducive for our lifestyle, where we can cook our own meals and be able to fellowship with others like us in our age group. The place has a movie theater, screened porch, garden spots and walking trails. "

"We toured Spring House at Lithia Springs for my brother, and the tour was great. They were very nice and patient. They gave us many different options. They also tried to accommodate us as far as the cost. What I liked about them was that they offer three meals a day. It's by choice. You can choose what you would like to eat, as long as you just notify them a little bit ahead of time; that was really great. They were also saying that they are working on opening a fitness room as well, which I think is great to have. The dining area is just an open area that's available. It is spacious for anyone to come in to eat their meals. It's a nice space. The rooms are kind of an extended stay hotel suite. They have a kitchenette in there. I was disappointed with that because the only thing they have is a full-sized refrigerator, which is wonderful. There is some cabinet space, but they only have a small microwave. I guess it's because they offer meals. They did say they offer activities as well. I believe they also had a garden, which was really nice. A garden where the residents could help themselves to some produce, which is really nice. I think they can also do gardening if they want to join in. The cost is kind of high, and I don't think the rooms are as well done as I would have liked them to be."
