"Atria Hillcrest was good, but they were also very expensive. Their special deal was that they had a nurse there 24 hours a day, however I felt it wasn't needed. The facility was very nice, but it was small and there was no ground level. The room that they had for the same price where my mom is now was a lot darker and smaller. "

"Granvida Senior Living was excellent, beautifully-decorated, and extremely clean. The residents seemed to be happy and engaged. It was really fabulous. I would love to have my mother there. There's a neighbor of mine who was placed there by her daughter against her will, and I ran into her there and she was beaming because she loves it there. It's a great place for people to thrive and who can benefit from that environment. They have the active assisted living section and the smaller, more subdued memory care section. It's fantastic. When I first walked in, there was a social area with a coffee bar where you can make yourself a cup of coffee, and there were sofas and chairs. It just looked very comfortable. They had the activities posted. The staff member who showed us around was excellent and very informative. I received many follow-up calls, so their staff is very conscientious about following through."

"Home Care of West Hills, LLC #2 was close to where I live and that is good. What I liked about it was that it had just about everything that my wife would need. They're very friendly and they seem to know enough about taking care of old people. They were very nice and informative. They have a little porch in the backyard where they can go out and eat. They also play some games, like card games. There's no exercise or anything like that. Then they have a dining area (one inside and one outside). From what I saw, the facility looked very clean. One of the girls was with a mop and a bucket when I got there."

"It is a good facility. I've only been there a couple of times, but my parents are being cared for adequately there. Their room has their furniture in it, and it looks okay. It's not very big. The staff is good. They have a full slate of activities there. They have art class, dance class, they bring in music once a week, they have happy hour and bingo, and all the normal activities you'd expect. The dining area is nice."

"What I like best about Santa Paulan Senior Apartments was probably the price and that it's in my hometown. It's got a pool. It's a big enough area and it's got enough parking. The staff who gave the tour was friendly. We just didn't like the whole application process that we went through, but she was friendly. They have their laundry on every floor. They have a little patio area. The apartment was big enough for what we needed. There's a kitchen and it's a complete apartment."

"Mira Vista has clean apartments, one-bedroom and two-bedroom, upstairs and downstairs. They have a swimming pool, a rec room, a pool table, two Jacuzzis, and a very nice landscape. It was very well put together, and it's within my budget. You are only allowed to make up to a certain amount of money. You can't make over, say, $50,000 to live there; you have to qualify within a certain price range. The staff accommodated me very well. They're very receptive. So far, the only person I have interacted with was very, very polite and very helpful."

"It was a great help to have the lists provided by A Place For Mom, Caring.com and the sympathetic and capable staff. I was able to visit the places within close proximity and call the locations that were further out. I'm on my own in a quieter town closer to the ocean. It is much cooler than Woodland Hills where my son lives. This is a Senior Accommodation place, and I have a 2 bedroom unit with a little balcony all to myself. I miss my late husband at every moment, in everything I do. How sad he was unable to get this peace & comfort whenever we were in California. But he is in no more pain. I'm glad only of that. Hope people who have need of guidance and assistance in such living situations can get the very capable help I got from agencies such as these with the caring personnel I had the good fortune to survive this time of personal tragedy. "

"I wouldn’t recommend Sycamore. The building was nice, and it had a lot of amenities, but the rooms looked very small. It’s very hotel like. As I was walking down the hall, the smell from the different apartments was terrible. It would be suitable for a single person. The staff was absolutely fabulous. "

"Oh my gosh! Gables of Ojai was beautiful. I saw the dining area; it was beautiful. They were having activities -- an art class -- with people that live there, and they seemed so happy. It was clean. It looked like the people there were well cared for. Overall, it was a good experience. The woman that took me on a tour was very nice. Everybody looked happy. It was clean, and it looked like it was professionally run."

"What impressed me most about University Village was how elegant looking the place was. It was a beautiful facility, like a 5-star hotel. It was in a very beautiful location where it was a little cooler than in the valley. Their rooms were small. They did have separate houses too. We had lunch in their dining room and it was just exquisite. The staff who walked us around and showed us different areas, she was very good. However, we didn't really meet any of their working staff. They did have activities but I didn't know any specifically. Overall, this facility was wonderful. It felt like you're going around a resort. However, it was expensive to live there. "
