Independent Living Communities in Mobile, AL

"I chose here for my mom because I think it was better than an assisted living facility. I had private sitters that came to the place if I was not around and they documented everything. The staff were very helpful and supportive especially with the people who needed assistance. I liked that they had housekeeping once a week who cleaned the bathrooms, washed and change the linens, etc. They served three meals a day, but my mom also had a refrigerator and microwave in her room if she wanted to eat something else. Sometimes the food was not the best but it was still healthy. My mom is doing pretty well."

"The Seagrass Village of Daphne was beautiful. They have three sections. They have the villas, which are completely independent. They have apartments, which are independent, but they can get meals. In the villas, you have to cook your own food, but you're welcome to go to the dining room. I'm sure it's for a small price, though. The third section is for assisted living. I only looked at the villas for independent living, and they were very impressive and pretty big. They are in the back of the facility, and they have 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom ones. I looked at the 3-bedroom villas first, and I didn't think they were that much bigger than the 2-bedroom ones. Also, because they have 3 bedrooms, the rooms aren't as spacious. They took me to see the 2-bedroom villas, and I was impressed. They have full kitchens with appliances and everything. Their bathroom is also a good size. They're very nice. I got to meet a number of people from the staff. For anybody who's looking for independent living, I highly recommend the villas. Most of the stuff is located in the apartment area because that's the first thing you see. They have a pool and all the amenities there that you're welcome to use as a resident. The community looks very nice, and they definitely have land to build more villages. The staff members were all very kind and considerate, and they answered all my questions. At the end of the open house, one of them took me to a two-bedroom, because the open house was in a three-bedroom villa. They were very helpful. The facility looks like it's brand new, or at least the villas do. The ones we went in were spotless and fresh. They were still putting together the 2-bedroom one. They hadn't put it in the microwave over the stove, so I'm thinking they are building as they go."

"I've already bought a property at Somerby of Mobile to build my own home. It's a gated community, and it is perfect for what I want. Everybody is very friendly. Everything that I've heard is fine, and they have everything that I need, but I'm not living there yet and I won't for another five months until they build the house. They have a swimming pool, exercise rooms, all sorts of activities, movies, trips, and transportation. They have everything that I want."

"When we decided that our grandmother would be going into an assisted living facility and back grounding many facilities, The Gordon Oaks Convalescent Center, was the last one on the list my family and I had to visit.We first walked inside the atrium, I fell in love with the layout and the view the facility had, before our eyes. We were greeted immediately with smiles and complimentary beverages. We were asked, kindly to be seated, while our tour guide becomes available. Our wait was no longer than five minutes, again greeted with warm smiles upon the tour guides arrival. The particular rooms/apartments as they like to call them, that we were showed were extremely spacious and had everything possible for a person of my grandmother's age to be able to feel active and Independent.Finally, when I took my grandmother to see it, she fell in love with it as well, and decided that would be her new home. "

"We moved into Brookside Retirement Community. It's a 2-bedroom, 2-bath, small house that's 1,250 square feet. They also have 1-bedroom apartments and 1-bedroom villas, but we didn't look at them because they were way more expensive. So far, the staff has been very helpful. However, there are some maintenance needs that we're going to have to get them to work on. There are very few activities, and they're more intended for assisted living. They have two levels here, independent and assisted."

"We picked Westminster Village because it's a very nice place. It has all the features and the amenities a person wants. It has 100 cottages and one main building with a couple of hundred apartments in it. It has a wing for assisted living and a wing for skilled care. The staff are skilled and they seemed to be happy with what they do and they took good care of the residents. They serve three meals a day. "
