Thanks to its location in central Georgia, Macon is often known by its nickname, “The Heart of Georgia.” Actually a consolidated city-county officially named Macon-Bibb County since 2014, Macon has a population of over 13,000 people. A large percentage of the population, 16.9%, is made up of residents age 65 or older. Macon attracts these seniors with a low cost of living, mild winters and lots of warm, sunny days. Each year, Macon celebrates the return of spring with over 350,000 blooming cherry trees. It also has several interesting things to do, including the Tubman Museum, which has an impressive collection of African-American art, the Allman Brother Band Museum and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
