I live at The Phoenix at Dallas. It's for those 55 and older. It's nice, quiet, and well-kept. I really enjoy it. I love it. They have valet trash on, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are a small community, but we get to know each other and look out for each other. We cook our own food, and occasionally we have lunch or parties in the clubhouse, but it's independent living. You can order lunch from the nursing home for the dementia patients. We get a menu, and we can order and go over there and pick it up. It's a two-bedroom, two full baths cottage with a garage. It's not an apartment. The maintenance is great. All you do is put your trash out, and they pick it up. Anything you need done in your cottage, they'll take care of. The staff is excellent. We have a manager or assistant manager. His name is Brian, and he's excellent. We have a beautiful outdoor heated pool. We also have a clubhouse where we have activities like bingo, Bible study on Wednesdays, Taco Tuesday, and birthday celebrations. Everything's included except you pay your own cable, but utilities, maintenance, all of that is included. You don't have to worry about paying your utility bill or the cost of it because you never see it. You don't have to worry about paying somebody because they take care of all the maintenance. The appliances were new when I moved in, like the washer and dryer.

I looked at a place named The Phoenix at Dallas. It's independent living and the place has cottages. The one I visited was a one-car garage unit and I liked it. It has two large bedrooms, and the master bedroom can hold a king-sized bed while the other can hold a queen-size bed. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a pretty nice-sized bathroom. The other bedroom has a regular closet and another bathroom, so the place has two full bathrooms with showers. There's a pretty nice kitchen with all the things that you want in it like the refrigerator with an ice maker. It has a sink where you can put barstools. It has a nice-sized pantry. The living room is small but it has a washer and dryer that comes with the apartment. Going out each of the bedroom doors has a patio. There are two patios, one in the front and one in the back. All the bills are paid including the water and the electricity. The cottages cost a little bit more but you don't have to do lawn care. They provide meals at a minimal cost. You just have to order 24 hours in advance if you want it delivered to your cottage. I met the assistant director and he was very helpful. The atmosphere is peaceful and the people are very friendly. They have an activity building with a swimming pool. They also have an outside area where you can play checkers. It's a new facility and a beautiful community. It's a little costly but there are ways to help you pay for it. They also give discounts for veterans and their spouses so you have ways to get help through the VA.
