Unfortunately, my family was not happy at all with the care that my mom received during her 10 week stay here. My mom was brought to this facility straight from the hospital after having a hip replacement due to a fall. My mom has dementia and doesn’t comprehend well at this time.
There were ONLY A FEW caregivers working in my mom’s community that were attentive to my mom’s needs; it was obvious that the others were there just to receive a paycheck, and they did the bare minimum of “their duties”. My mom came to Fountainview/North Druid Hills from the hospital with a small pressure sore on the heel of her foot, but due to this facility not initiating THEIR IN HOUSE wound care person to care for it, the wound got very large, extremely sore, and worsened very quickly. It wasn't until my mom had a follow up visit with her doctor (from her surgery) that HER DOCTOR CALLED FOUNTAINVIEW AND INITIATED THE IN HOUSE WOUND CARE FOR MY MOM’S SORE. Fountainview should have called their wound care person in as soon as they saw the small pressure sore.
Immediately following a phone conversation between one of the nurses and my sister (us just inquiring about a few things regarding my mom's care and well being) we were politely given a date for my mom to have to leave. NOTE: The wound was still an issue at that time, my mom’s leg and foot was very swollen, and it was very uncomfortable for my mom to walk, BUT SHE STILL HAD TO LEAVE (in spite these circumstances). It is obvious that if you just shut up and don’t ask any questions about the care and well being of your loved ones, you’re good, BUT dare not ask ANY REAL questions that require real answers… YOU ARE OUT THE DOOR!!!!
Incident that occurred: I came in the facility around 11:30 am one morning and my mom was still in the bed with her clothes on that she had on the day before (when I left), she had TWO DEPENDS on; the depends, the bed pad, and the complete bed linen were all soaking wet. I pressed the buzzer for someone to come in and assist me with getting her cleaned up.. After about 10mins and no one came, I turned the buzzer off and proceeded to clean up my mom. We mentioned to one of the directors on staff that day, that we will definitely be having a conversation about this incident with someone; he told us to do what we feel that we needed to do (WOW we thought)!!!
The food was awful (except for a few okay meals that my mom ate). My mom has no teeth and they continued to bring her food that was hard and very difficult for her to chew. Near the end of her stay, I saw nothing but sandwiches and green beans on the plate for lunch and dinner every day. I am sure the “justification” that can work for them in this is that the weather had gotten warm so this would be a “cool” type of meal.. NOT EVERY DAY FOR LUNCH AND DINNER!!!
The inventory sheet that we completed with the list of clothes that we brought in with and for my mom was a waste of time. Her clothes came up missing and no one had a clue of what happened to them. Whenever I would ask someone to go and check in the laundry room for missing pieces, that person never returned.
I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY TO ANYONE!!!!!
