I have just moved into the Grand Villa of DeLand's independent living today and so far it's been good. The staff is wonderful. My room is a very nice studio that is very clean and very refreshing. The community has a garden and a nice lobby too. The first day I visited here, they took me on a tour. I saw that they have a pool and a community room, which is very nice. They also have a dining room that looks very nice.

I toured the Grand Villa of DeLand. It's a beautiful place. It had a lot of activities for them. They had a beauty salon. They had a little gift shop. The dining room looks beautiful. It was very nice. The staff was very friendly and nice. I didn't stay for the food but it looked good. It had a nice presentation. It doesn't have the kitchen facilities for your room.

Grand Villa of DeLand was a really nice place. It's brand new. It's very clean and very resort-like. The staff that gave the tour was very good. The apartments were excellent. The dining there is very, very nice. I think there's more than one dining area. They had a lot of really good activities and amenities. They have a pool there.

Grand Villa of DeLand was very well maintained. The people were friendly. My mom felt more comfortable there. Everything was right there. The doctors could come in, they had hairdressers, they had nail technicians, they had activities, and they had stuff that we wanted my mom to be active with. And it was convenient, so that's why we chose that. They showed us a studio, so it's like a hotel room.

My husband moved to Grand Villa of DeLand. He's a sundowner and they're working with him. He's walking a lot better now. The food is fantastic and the people are very good there. I like them and he likes everything about it. They have good activities going to keep them entertained a lot. Again, the food is unbelievably good. I've never seen him eat so much food and you can smell it when you walk in. They give him a lot of good stuff. They have stuff downstairs so they can sit and eat if they want to. They have fruits, vegetables, English muffins and stuff like that and coffee, and it's very good. They know when he comes down. They always let me know if he's upstairs or in his room or not and they're just always there for him. They help him a lot. They do. The people are very good. The facility used to be a hotel, and they fixed it up nicely. It really is. The rooms are quite large. He's got a big bathroom for himself. His room is big. They each have a private door. Nobody goes in without knocking first. They always knock and make sure it's all right to come in before they go in. They're not modern. They have a movie theater set up for them to go and watch movies. They have art classes going on, and they have just a lot of good things going on there. I was impressed with it. They know my husband by name and they always check on him and see if things are going okay for him and see how he's doing. He likes what he goes down to. They sing. They have people come in from different places and they dance and they entertain them. So he enjoys it. The food is delicious. They had some openings on Thanksgiving (because that's when a lot of people left) and they gave him prime rib and salmon. I don't normally go there to eat because it's his stuff and most places don't let the people eat, but they said "We've got plenty here." He gave me a piece of the prime rib and that was good. My husband ate the salmon. It's easy to get to and to get out. If my husband needs a ride to go somewhere, they will take him or I can take him. I just check them out if I go. Sometimes I can take him to the doctor's appointments and so forth, and sometimes they take him in. No problem at all. They've been helping him a lot. He can walk unbelievably now. He has a walker, and he's been doing good with that. Before he couldn't. They said he can go to the gym now and work on his legs by himself if he wants to, which he says he's going to start doing.

My mom will be moving into the Grand Villa of DeLand. They had multiple levels of care there based on her needs. All of the things that she would need to go to, the activities, and the facilities are all on one level, so it would eliminate a lot of walking. It doesn't feel like a nursing home. It feels like she's on vacation somewhere. Her room is exactly what she needed, with plenty of space, but it's not so large. It has a small kitchenette with a little refrigerator and a tiny little sink where she could make her coffee. My mom looked at the menu for the month, and it looked like things that she would be satisfied with. If she doesn't choose something off the menu, they will prepare something, especially for her. They have a library, an outdoor pool where they do water aerobics, a beauty shop, a barber shop, a movie theater, a little gift store, and a cafe area where they can get coffee and either fruit or cookies pretty much any time of the day that they want, and a family party room if she wanted to have a private family get-together. They have a monthly schedule of activities. They have a transportation van that will take them to the theater.

I did a tour of the Grand Villa of DeLand, but the staff didn't show me a room. She said she would show me one if I was serious about putting my mom there, and that was kind of rude. They had a general store and a beauty salon. The place was nice, but there were just too many red flags for me, especially if I'm not going to be able to see a room.

Grand Villa of DeLand seemed like a very pleasant place. It looked clean and smelled clean. I didn't see anybody just sitting around in the halls. Everybody was doing something, and it looked like a pretty well-run facility. The employees were very friendly and very helpful. The rooms were nice and spacious. There was plenty of room. It was furnished well and was clean. The dining areas, the family rooms, and the private dining for families were all really nice and well setup.

We went to the Grand Villa of DeLand. It's impressive. It's very nice. It's like a downtown type of decor and everything. It's very, very nice. The room is very, very nice, but it's just a room. They don't have a kitchen. The staff was excellent, very helpful, and very thorough. That was my second choice.

Grand Villa of DeLand was a very nice and very clean facility. They had all the amenities there in the facility, so I was very pleased with it. The rooms were very nice. I was shown a small unit that they have and it had plenty of room in it for what I needed it for. The bathroom was nicely laid out with everything that would be helpful for a person to get in there with ease. It was on the top floor so it had a very nice view. If I had been looking right then, I would have taken it. They're top of the line. The staff was all very nice, very helpful, and very cordial. They were eager to help me and tour the facilities and answered all my questions.

Grand Villa of DeLand is like an old hotel. It was not laid out well. It was under construction. It just seemed old and kind of beat up a little bit. I wasn't impressed at all. The facility is what turned me off. The staff were nice, professional, and helpful. The staff there was just like any salesperson showing me around.

Both my parents are in the Grand Villa of DeLand's assisted living. I like the staff and their marketing director because they are very easy to work with. I like the rooms that they have available for my parents. They're a very clean and very active facility. I've talked to the residents there, and they all love the food and are very, very well-pleased there. My understanding from the moving company that moves stuff there is that the place doesn't lose a lot of people from being unhappy, so there are a lot of long-term residents there. For activities, they have yoga, exercise classes, and bingo. They also bring in entertainment on Friday afternoons (whether it be a piano player, a guitar player, or a singer). They have poker and card games too. I think the value we are getting is tremendous.

My mom moved into Grand Villa of DeLand. The staff is very pleasant there. Their food is excellent. The services that they are providing my mom are very good. They are a very organized facility. My mom is in a shared assisted living, so she shares her apartment with somebody, which is even better because she's not so lonely in her room. The staff members are wonderful. They have done everything they have said without having to ask twice. They have a gourmet chef. They have all kinds of activities all day long. The movie is constantly going there. They have singing, bingo, and arts and crafts. They have where you could sign up to go off-site shopping. The facility is beautiful and clean. They are doing renovations. They keep up with freshening it up with paint. They have a pool and exercise three times a week. We have a Medicaid waiver, so we only pay for Social Security. The Medicaid waiver picks up the remaining of it, which gives my mom additional services, like they provide her medication morning and evening. They do her laundry once a week, clean her room once a week, and give her showers three times a week.

I toured Grand Villa of DeLand. I liked it very well. The apartments they had were very nice. The people that worked there were very nice. They took me around and told me about different things. They have different types of exercises to do. It's close to Walmart and different places, and there's a restaurant right next door. It was very nice, and it looked very clean. There are two different sizes of rooms. There is a one-bedroom, and there's a bathroom off of it. Also, the kitchen is incorporated in the one-bedroom. They have a nice cafeteria. You can pick what you want off the menu. They said they had a nurse on duty during the day. Everything you ask for, if you want help for doing things, everything has a price. Three staff members gave me the tour, and they were very good and very helpful. The place is very clean and set up really nice. I could bring my vehicle there and park it if I still drive. I didn't look at anybody else, and I just looked one time there, so I would rate it a three.

My overall tour experience at Grand Villa of DeLand was very nice. I liked it. There were a lot of things going on when I was there, so I got to see lots of people and everybody looked happy. It's an old hotel converted into a senior living. So there are apartments, at least the ones I saw, where two hotel rooms are side by side with a door that you could get through. So, however big a hotel room is, that's how big these rooms were. So I like them, I thought they were decently good sized and very well appointed. The only problem was the bathrooms were very tiny, or the one I saw had a very small bathroom. The facility looks clean and tidy. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice. I like the dining room but the only problem was there were no windows. They had a big swimming pool and they had a very big lobby where people could sit and so forth, and that was nice.

Grand Villa of DeLand is extremely homey, very cozy, and the staff is extremely friendly and professional. The place is very clean and very neat too. If you notice anything and you make a comment, they immediately take care of it and anything right away. My father moved in on the 14th, then my mom moved in the following Monday, and I was there for their meals. She had quiche, while he had turkey and mashed potatoes, and it looked amazing. My mom ate it and said that it's really good. She has a lot of stomach problems, but ever since she moved in there, she doesn't have any more stomach pain. They are both in the memory care section and they get my father from his room and try to entice him to come out and get to know the other people in there. They engage them and they have activities that are suited to their needs. I've seen other places that were way more expensive with less care, but the people in Grand Villa of DeLand are very empathetic.

Grand Villa of DeLand seemed like it would be a nice to live, but I was told that you have to take three meals a day along with the apartment. I don't need three meals a day. It was also out of my price range. The community was very nice, though. It was up to date, they had newer buildings, and they even had a little café and a little store. It was very clean, and the apartment was really nicely laid out. The person who gave me the tour was very nice and very informative. The dining area looked very nice too. She was explaining that they have different times when people could go there, but we didn't go inside; we could only see the people sitting in there having their lunch.

My mom is at Grand Villa Of DeLand and the people are just wonderful. They have a rec area, a beautiful courtyard, and a very caring staff. They have many activities plus speech therapy and they keep their residents very happy and very occupied. The rooms are excellent and it's a nice place. The food is good too.

Pleasant, professional staff. Nice and clean facility. I’m very, very happy with the accommodations for my mother-in-law. She is happy also. From the friendly greetings at the front door to the entire staff during our visit, Grand Villa is first class place for a family member to live in an Assisted Living environment.

The room at Grand Villa of DeLand was nice. If it was a single room, it had a room for a larger bed, and if it was sharing, it had room for two twin beds. They were adequate and big enough. It looked like they had a few amenities. If you're in assisted living, they had a pool, a fireplace you can sit in front of, a place for TV, a card table for people playing cards, and a place to sit outside.

A lot of residents at Grand Villa of DeLand looked good. The biggest drawback was the structure of their facility. There were long hallways to their rooms like if my mother is in a wheelchair, they would have to go get her every day and take her down the elevator to the room where they eat and do activities. My impression of the staff was very good. The facility looked great, too. I saw the dining area and the community room, and they had a lot of activities posted. I saw a room where people were doing puzzles, and I saw people that had aides helping them, so it looked very good.

Grand Villa of DeLand was very nice, but I noticed that when everybody was waiting in the halls for lunch they all had a blank look on their faces. The staff told me that they only have 16 regular people there and all the rest are memory care patients. So I said that's not good for me because I went there for independent living. They also have assisted living and people get their medicine at the desk. We had a meal there and I would consider it only fair. We had meat wrapped in cabbage and there was a sauce. That particular dish was very good, but everything else was mediocre. They have a beautiful pool, they were doing a bead-stringing activity, and also jewelry making. The staff was very nice and helpful. If you're looking for memory care or assisted living this place would probably be rated a four, but if you're looking for independent living I would rate this place a two.

We visited Grand Villa of DeLand. The staff and the nurse were friendly, but I have a big question mark about the residents that my mother was going to be around. They had residents who had their memory together and were eating out and all that looked well, until I went to the section where they said she would be. Other than that, the building itself was pretty and it's like being in a nice fancy hotel. The rooms were nice sized for two single beds because she will be sharing a room. I did not like the view from the window. It was just grass, and there were no flowers. I saw an exercise room, some people watching TV, and they had games. The staff was pleasant and so was the administration. The residents in the assisted living area didn't need that much care from the nurses.

We were very impressed with Grand Villa of DeLand and with the people. They have a lot of activities, a movie theater, and therapy. They have just about everything. The tour was very good and the lady was very knowledgeable and informative. The rooms were nice. It was a great place. They have multiple bedrooms, studios, and one- and two-bedroom apartments as well. We saw their craft room, library, dining room, and a little store in the lobby. The staff was talking to all the people we met in the halls, they knew each other by name, and she introduced us to people.

Whoever said “hind sight is 20/20” was absolutely correct. If I knew then what I know now I would have never wasted six months of my Mothers Golden years searching for a “forever Home”. Three facilities later my family and I settled on the wonderful accommodations and amenities offered by Grand Villa, Deland. From day one Mom was treated with the dignity and respect we all expect and look for in an assisted living facility offering a Memory Care Unit. To further put your mind at ease the Memory Care Unit is locked down to prevent any residents from wandering out of the facility. Within the locked down area on the ground level, residents have the freedom to wander out into the courtyard with no concern of getting lost. Although Mom choses to be left out of some or most of the daily activities she is prompted by the activities director to join the other residents more than once every day. After only three days at Grand Villa, Deland my siblings and I celebrated Moms’ 95th birthday in the facilities private dining room. While we were setting up the room one of the kitchen staff asked if we needed anything. I suggested coffee would be nice. Within minutes she returned with a Pot of coffee with all the “fixins”. Before the party was over she came back with a second pot. As soon as you enter the facility you are greeted by the most accommodating receptionists I’ve ever encountered. I explained I needed to make multiple trips back to my car to get all the party stuff for my Moms’ Birthday party. She offered the use of one of the luggage carriers. That gesture of hospitality saved me three trips to the car. The maintenance staff set up Moms room exactly the way we wanted it, down to the pictures and photos on each wall. When Mom walked into her room for the first time, she knew something was a little different but as soon as she recognized her furniture and the pictures on the wall she settled in. The nursing staff keeps me up to date on Moms’ health and personal needs. Along with medication management they assist mom with her daily hygiene in her own private bathroom and shower. The housekeeping staff keep her room neat and clean along with the laundering of her personal clothing. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Sales and Leasing staff and the business office personnel for tailoring a package for mom that met all of our monthly financial goals and included the level of personal care she needs. Mom wants to live to be 100 and I feel she will easily achieve her goal due to the one-on-one care and compassion provided by the Grand Villa, Deland Staff. And one last thing, she loves the food! And, one more last thing. Using my hind sight, if you ever see an invitation for an “Open House” At Grand Villa, Deland for new residents, be sure to attend. During those events the leasing staff may have some financial offers for a limited number of families or loved ones who sign up for residency. The Schubert Siblings

I liked Grand Villa of Deland, and I was more interested in the memory care unit. It was a nice, two-story building with elevators that the residents need to use it to go down to the activity room. There has to be somebody to assist them, but there was nobody at the nurses' station, which didn’t make me comfortable. I liked the Activity Director and main area. The assisted living facility had everything you could want. It was excellent.

Grand Villa of DeLand is beautiful, and the staff was excellent. The only thing I didn't like about it was it had too many exit doors. Mom doesn’t wander ,but she's very forgetful ,and I'd be afraid if she'd wander out a side door and not know where she was.

Grand Villa is very family-oriented. We were able to take our young kids there for family game nights. They serving three meals a day of high-end cuisine from a private chef. It is not buffet-style. They have a menu that changes weekly. They have a beauty salon, a craft store, and a country store with snacks. They have transportation to doctors' appointments and to weekly retreats out to dinner and shopping. They have a swimming pool open all year round. The room is actually like a 5-star hotel service. We stayed at The Hilton Hotel a lot, and it is almost comparable to that, so you get room service once a week and laundry. They give my mother-in-law transportation every week. They have a weekly logbook, and she logs in when she needs to go, and then they will take her. Anytime she has any questions, they're very helpful. They call us weekly to ask how Linda is feeling about everything, and then they will also let us know what she is doing there and what activity she is participating in, which is a really big thing. That way, we know what's going on when we can't get over there. They're very kind. One of the biggest things she likes is that they have their own like residential community where the community gets to decide and make the decision on what Grand Villa actually does. So, if they're adding a new amenity or if they're wanting to go and do retreat, every single one of the residents gets to vote on it, and they go off of what the residents want instead of what the staff wants to do.

Grand Villa was clean and organized, but they did not have two-bedrooms, only one-bedrooms. They had a bunch of games. The residents seemed to be very happy. They had two meals a day, but you can go and eat at any time. I saw an exercise room, stores where you buy things, the dining room, and a swimming pool.

We made one visit at Grand Villa of DeLand. I knew that everyone was on their best behavior, and it seemed to be an excellent facility. It was new. It had only been up for 5 months, but they went through great lengths to making it look like a community and not like a facility. It used to be a motel, and they did things like when you walked down the hall, you almost thought you were walking down a street because they had different parts where they done like a window with a display. So, you actually thought you were walking in a street. Then, there was a little cafe. There was a little country store and a game room. It just looked like they were little shops or something. It was just adorable, and the dining hall honestly looked like a very elegant restaurant. The chef came out to talk to the people to make sure the food was up to their expectation. The whole place was just very unique. I had never seen a place like that before. The maintenance was perfect. The room that we saw would have been the respite care room, and they had not quite finished with that. They hadn’t done the decorations, and the bed did not even have a comforter on it, but it was like a motel room, and they retrofitted that to be a little apartment. The biggest advantage of that was because it was in Deland, you could get a private room for the same price or less than where my mom was.

My parents loved Grand Villa of DeLand. It was excellent and beautiful. The meals were good. We had dinner, and it was really nice. The staff was excellent. My parents stayed there for 4 hours, and they really enjoyed it there. I got to see the bedrooms, the media room, the computer room, and the activity center. They provided all the transportation for the residents.

I could write a novel about our experience with Grand Villa Deland Memory Care, but I’ll try to be short and to the point. My advice is DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN THE GRAND VILLA MEMORY CARE FACILITY. The employees who care for the patients are, for the most part, sincere, kind, and caring. However, the facility is extremely under staffed for even mediocre care. Our mother had fallen several times and was sent to the local ER with no reported reason. She acquired many cuts and skin tears that each required several weeks of home healthcare assistance (as well as several contusions). My mother received no assistance with eating meals. There is an extreme lack of communication between staff members, as well as, staff and family. Several times we would visit and could not find one staff member on the floor… and counted more than twenty patients without supervision – scary! The list could go on and on. To move mom would be traumatic and exhausting for her, but after meeting with three different Executive Directors with no resolution, we decided to do so. Our mother is now cared for at a wonderful placed with plenty of care… she is now eating well, her wounds are healing, and everything is so much better! Here are some thoughts if Grand Villa Deland Memory Care is on your list as an option for your loved one: Anyone can visit at anytime… show up unexpectedly (early, late, meal times, etc.) and observe the ratio of caregivers to residents. Look for recent injuries that patients may have. Spend some time there and see if patients are sitting alone for long periods of time with no interaction. Elevators are locked, so ask staff to allow you to go upstairs then see how many patients are wandering the halls with absolutely no supervision. Ask about the qualification of the caregivers and the turn-over rate. Inquire about the protocol for medical advice and emergencies… we understood there is an RN on staff; even with my mother’s injuries we never met the nurse. Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to evaluate the care prior to mom moving-in… the facility was brand new and the promises were many. We stayed for 3 months hoping for improvement, but it never happened. I cannot stress enough, my advice is DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN THE GRAND VILLA MEMORY CARE FACILITY. I wish you the best with locating a good home for your loved one.

Grand Villa of Deland is a new, very clean, very nice, and cheery place. It has nice people and activities. They have a movie theater, a pool, a dining area, and a little beauty salon. It is just very nice. They have places to go and therapy. I had the food, and it was very good. Everybody was very friendly, very caring, and helpful. When you walked in, it was nice, bright, and cheery. I just liked it. I went to many places, and that was the best one.

Grand Villa of DeLand is a very new facility and a little short of experienced help, but they made up for it with the people in the key positions. The nursing staff was a little overworked, but they went out of their way to make sure the individual is doing well. This is where my father ended up going. My father has gotten sick and wound up in the hospital; however, the director of nursing herself has gone out of her way to check up on him personally, visiting him, and calling me and inquiring about his well-being. That happens when you have a good heart, not because you're being paid, and I am very impressed with that. They have a movie theater, water aerobics, somebody always playing cards and chess, and some of these old folks are even on computers, which I couldn’t believe. There's always something going on. The facility was a former 5-star hotel which they converted into assisted living, so there's wide open space, and lots of rooms where you can sit down on a nice couch and watch TV. If it's all girls there, you go to the other end of the building, and there's the guys watching the baseball game.

I visited Grand Villa for a friend's mother. It was brand new, big, and did not have many people moved in yet even though people had started taking rooms, so I didn't get to see an interaction between the people that would be moving in there and the ones that worked there. They were very polite to everybody that came in. The facilities were beautiful and had special stations for people who like to work with tools could go, like a workshop place and different things to keep the mind active. They have different rooms, a room with a fireplace, and a TV, and an outdoor space with a very high fence. It was so large that it seems to me that somebody could go off in one of these rooms and sit there all day by themselves, and unless no one takes the time to go and find them, they could just be sitting there all day. It's an absolutely beautiful place, and my relative would have been on the second floor. She would have to go down on an elevator, but she couldn't do that herself; someone had to get her because you have to have a special swipe card to make the elevator work, so she would be stuck up on the second floor which is just rooms. It's not ideal. You have to count on the people working there so much because they would bring them all down in the morning and keep them downstairs so they could interact, and I just don't know how happy she would be doing that because she likes doing her own thing. It would have been difficult for her to be herself and do what she wanted. She would have to depend on the staff.

Grand Villa of Deland was absolutely a beautiful facility. I only toured it. It would be a great place to house somebody, but I was hoping that my husband’s situation was temporary.
