I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents live here. There is good and bad. If you are considering living here, be sure to ask for a schedule of the price increases over the past few years, which have been hefty every year. While raising costs, Casa has begun charging residents for small things that they were not charged for before. In addition, residents are pressured to donate to the Front Porch Foundation, employee financial assistance etc. Many residents have started asking questions about the high salaries of Front Porch executives. The location is great but there are definitely questions to ask before moving here. Look closely- lightbulbs out in the hallways, unsecure doors. etc.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of Casa de Mañana. Though we constantly strive to manage costs and executive salaries, there are a number of market factors that have impacted the rate increases in recent years. Because we know personally the real people who are affected by yearly rate increases, we take the responsibility for managing our budget very seriously. We also provide detailed information to residents about our budget process and the rationale for the increases. We want to assure you that contributions towards our philanthropy efforts are always voluntary, and should spring from our donors’ personal philanthropic goals and wishes. We will look into the other concerns you raised. Thank you again for sharing your review. If you wish to contact the community directly, we welcome any additional details or feedback.

Casa de Mañana was very nice. Beautiful location. Clean facilities. Knowledgeable tour guide. She was very nice and patient with us. They have beautiful views of the ocean. There's a nice, cool courtyard area. And we were advised about their amenities in terms of transportation, laundry, and 24/7 medical and nursing available. We were informed of all of the living amenities you need to deal with. The dining area was beautiful and spacious. It had a nice view, and it was clean. The place was very well taken care of.

Casa de Mañana is on the ocean. That's why whoever moves here, moves here for its proximity to the ocean, which is across the street. Since COVID, the staff is lacking though. We have activities like Zoom meetings where the person presenting a lecture or topic comes to us through Zoom. We also have movies when things are going well. I like in-person lectures and doing theater films on different series. Right now, we have one about the national parks.

Casa de Mañana Retirement Community was very good, and I would recommend them. The rooms were cheery, inviting, bright, and happy. The dining area is nice, and it looked like a resort or restaurant.

Casa de Mañana Retirement Community is nicely converted, but it's old. We had lunch there when we visited. It's right by the sea, which is beautiful. But for the amount of money that you're paying, my father didn't like that the apartments have big windows with the air-conditioning coming out of it. It's not aesthetically pleasing. It's an old hotel from like 1904, so it's a little more dated, although there's also newer buildings. But it's hot and we went there on a hot day, so we were like, "Really?" They're under Front Porch Community, and they go on outings with the residents from their sister community, which is nice. The dining room was nice, and you're literally across the street from the ocean to the dining room, so it's beautiful. We had a great sit-down meal for lunch and it was fabulous, the meals were yummy, and there's quite a variety on the menu. The staff bends over backwards to meet our needs and they answered our questions. They have this little medallion that the residents have around their wrist or neck, and you can push it if you fall.

My visit at Casa de Manana went very well. Their food was as good as the others, and it was a nice place. Casa de Manana is across the street from the beach, and that's what I want. You can access the beach by walking, which sounds spectacular.

Casa de Manana didn't appeal to our particular style of living. They had different clientele than what we are looking for. It is an old place, but several different buildings have been added, which are newer and are across the street from each other, so it is not as consolidated as some of the other communities that have been built more recently. The community was very nice though. The staff members were nice and very hospitable to us. The rooms were nice. We tried the food and it was good.

Casa De Manana's staff was very accommodating, but the place was older and worn. The apartments were very small. The food was adequate. The residents generally looked happy and seemed to be having a good time. It seemed like an older population than in other places.

I was very impressed with Casa de Manana. I saw a one-bedroom and a studio. It was my favorite out of all the places I visited. The people were friendly, and the rooms were interesting. The price and the location were fine. I liked the people, the building, the location, and the price.

Casa de Manana is a very upscale facility and has been here since the 20s. The grounds are very well-maintained, and the location is excellent. It's right on the ocean there, and the rooms were well-maintained. They have a lot of activities like Happy Hour, and their food was very good. The rental prices are quite high.

Casa de Manana was excellent, we had meals there, and they were good. It’s restaurant type food, but not gourmet. It has all been very good.

I liked Casa de Manana very much, and I think that’s the place I would choose. I liked that the best of all the places I visited. They had several villas -- which were buildings with 2 units -- They were roomy, and I really liked those. The staff was very nice.

Casa de Manana La Jolla is very high-class. The design is a beautiful, old, California style of architecture. The facility is in a very elegant place with old Spanish architecture. There's a library with anthropology journals in it. The students come down and do cello concerts. It's a very nice place. It's sort of intellectual. They have outings and entertainment. People come down from the university and give lectures. It's not bingo. It's top of the line.

Casa de Manana was very nice and in a wonderful location. The dining room and their lobby were beautiful. The people were very friendly. The lady who took us around knew all of the residents that we met by name, and I was very impressed by that.

Casa de Manana was terrific and very clean. The lady was very competent and forthcoming and gave us a lot of information on the tour. We had lunch there, and it was good. The dining room has an ocean view. The rooms were small. What surprised me was they had a small kitchen, and the appliances were old. They said nobody uses them; that's why they don't put new appliances in. They had a lot of activities. I like the overall impression of the place. Somebody I know lives there, and she loves it. There is no upfront fee -- just a monthly charge.

I like Casa de Manana's location. It is close to the beach. You could just walk over to the ocean and walk around La Jolla. It is very nice. My friend was in a very small room, and there wasn't much room to move around in. They just had one big room where they held singing at Christmastime and Thanksgiving dinner, and they would turn it into a crafts room, so they didn't have much in the way of entertainment to keep your mind going. Food was nice, but it was simple and nothing fancy.

The assisted living of Casa Manana was across the street from the main part, and you had to cross the busy street to get to the regular dining room. The staff was really high quality people. I had lunch there, and the food was really nice. The rooms were built before 1940 and they didn’t have a thermostat for each rooms. They made you bring your own personal air conditioner and heater. They have a tiny refrigerator and a microwave. They have a library and a common room, which was nicely decorated.

The Casa De Manana had been a very elegant hotel in the 1920s. The original dining room was beautiful. They have a beautiful library overlooking the ocean. The rooms are original to the hotel, and then they built a couple of several-story buildings across the street, and one was for memory care. It's very well laid out. They also have every kind of activity for the residents, including a swimming pool and a movie theater. It was really beautiful, very nice.

This is a really nice place. It is set up with a main building and several outside apartments for residents with more independence. The common areas are especially nice. They are always kept very clean and well taken care of. The staff have always been very attentive and friendly, and the workers in the eating area are especially attentive with meal requests and things of that sort. I did not personally find the food appetizing, but it was much better than I've seen at other locations, and my grandmother was always happy with it. Most of all, The Casa seems to have a really nice community, as they are frequently taking residents out on trips to local areas. They also have many local events and gatherings that keep the residents friendly and social. My main complaint is that they keep raising the price and the place is expensive enough as is, but if you can afford it this is a great place to live.

Casa is a wonderful home for my parents. The staff is caring, friendly, and patient, and the residents are delightful. I couldn't be happier!
