With white sandy beaches and ample paths for walking and biking, Huntington Beach, California, has a lot to offer retiring adults. Seniors make up 16.8% of Huntington Beach’s population, and the city offers a wide range of services to adults over 65. There is a robust continuing education program with a wide range of classes for seniors, including ballet, fly fishing and computer instruction. For less mobile seniors, the City of Huntington Beach provides free transportation through their Surf City Seniors on the Go program. This program offers a free shuttle to seniors for all nonemergency activities and errands during regular business hours on weekdays. Huntington Beach’s Council on Aging also provides affordable bimonthly day trips throughout the area.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
