Mequon is an affluent suburban community located just 20 miles from Milwaukee. The city is home to 24,382 residents, and seniors represent nearly 25% of the population. Ozaukee County has the highest concentration of older adults in southeast Wisconsin. Mequon ranks well for its livability. The area has several green spaces and nature preserves, including Virmond Park, which overlooks Lake Michigan. Residents can also discover local history at the Jonathan Clark House, a 19th-century homestead and former meeting place for the area’s early settlers.
Seniors who want to enjoy more of the area’s amenities may consider assisted living. This form of residential care is suitable for adults who are active and independent but need occasional help with personal care or household tasks. Senior living communities in Mequon charge $5,073 per month, according to Genworth Financial’s Cost of Care Survey for 2020. Although this is higher than the state and national average, rates include accommodations, meals, personal care and recreational activities.
This guide features information about local providers and average prices. We’ve also included a directory of free resources to help with long-term care planning.

Great management and caregivers. My mother loves her unit and tells me all the time how great the food is. StoryPoint was recommended by a friend and we are so happy with our decision.

I toured this community for my mom. The apartments are spacious and have a full kitchen.
Staff was very knowledgeable and you could tell they cared about the residents. They also offer a pendant program for residents which is a call light button.
They have a fun activities calendar with at least 4 activities a day. The apartments come with Wi-Fi, cable and bathrooms have a walk in shower, apartment controlled heating and cooling. The apartments are big.
They offer housekeeping, laundry services, 3 meals a day. They did invite both myself and mom in for lunch and a tour. Also, transportation for any appointments that mom has.
A plus of this community is the is right off the expressway and close to hospitals, drs offices and shopping area.

Sarah Chudnow was a very big place. I saw a large number of staff, as it was an assisted living, a memory facility, and a physical therapy facility. The staff seemed to be very busy, and I was able to talk to only one girl, and her name was Connie. She was very courteous. She answered all of my questions. The rooms were very spacious. I thought they had the largest rooms of all the facilities that I toured. They were pet friendly. That one probably had the most to offer, but it just seemed a little impersonal to me. It had the feel of a larger hospital rather than a retirement home. As it is a bigger place, my mom would have to walk farther to attend to her dog’s needs.

So I know that my mom is going to be cared for. There’s so many amenities and those are wonderful as well. She can get her hair done, she can get a manicure and pedicure. My mom is a southern belle, so she likes to have those things available to her, and they have those there, including a hand massage and foot massage. We visited eight places, and this one was the best. I didn’t get to sample their food, but the residents seem to brag about it. The facility is beautiful. They had a bird expert come in and talked to the residents about birds, and they have happy hour. They have a rosary group once a week and a prayer group, and that’s important for my mom. There’s a couple of people that play cards and poker, so they’re going to do a poker group on Tuesdays.

She is missed from pick up at dinner time and states that the food selection is minimal at best ,and very unpalatable. For an Ozaukee County facility, and especially a CEDARBURG elder care home, this is unimaginable. Promises of more staff are just lies. The injuries lately are numerous. I would not recommend this place and would like my mother in law to leave.

I toured Lincoln Village Senior Living and I thought they did a great job. It’s a huge place and they have a lot of amenities, but I think it was just too big for my mom. I think if she would have started assisted living ten years ago in her life and gotten her place there, I think she would have been fine with it, but it’s almost too overwhelming for her now to be placed there for the first time. It’s a big place, but it’s beautiful.
The staff was very professional, very personal, and willing to answer any questions that my mom had. I thought she did a nice job. They have everything from a couple of bedroom facility rooms to single rooms to studios. It’s like a little town. It’s very cute. The dining area was nice. It’s separated and felt like you were truly going to a dining area. It looked very nice.
They pretty much offered everything. They have a meal plan, a wellness plan, and games. They also have little sitting areas inside and out. They have a lot to offer their residents. For my mom, it would be too much to get around because she’s on oxygen, but if you’re pretty mobile and can ambulate around it’d be a great transition place because it’s more apartment living. This has got elevators in it and it’s just a total setup. It’s very impressive. They seem to know their residents, but it’s very spaced out. It’s a more independent living, to me, than it is assisted living.
The staff was energetic and very professional. She knew her job and knew the place. But I don’t know that she went out of her way to do anything above and beyond. I thought she was very helpful, but I wouldn’t say I left wowed or impressed that I would go and place my mom there.

We toured Ellen’s Home of Port Washington and it looks like a newer place. It’s in a beautiful subdivision. Sonja, our tour guide, did a fantastic job of touring us. They call it a senior assisted living, but I would say it felt more nursing home. It was the very first place that we went to.
The rooms were more like studio apartments. They were not bad, but in comparison to everything else that I’ve seen now, they were my least favorite. They were clean and you have some space in them, and I liked the fact that it was ranch-style, and everything was on one level. But they weren’t as nice as the other places if I was to compare.
The dining area was very nice. It seemed homey. It was spaced out so that if you wanted to eat with or dine with a friend, you could, and if you wanted to eat by yourself, you could do that, too.
It seemed like they have an activity director or somebody who was in charge of activities, but I didn’t see it in action. They seem to take a lot of photos of the residents doing stuff, and they had plenty of offerings according to their folder. I just wasn’t there long enough to get a good feel. It sounded like you do some shopping trips, and they bring in some people to do tea time and bingo.
Sonja was wonderful. She’s worked there and worked her way up to a leadership position. She is very proud of their facility and there was a lot of kudos to them for it because I do think they take good care of it. However, it reminded me more of a nursing home and not assisted living. I felt like the age of the residents was more nursing home. I think my mom would have felt like I was dumping her up there to die rather than it being like the next phase in her life. But Sonja was energetic, answered any questions that I have, and was very professional. She met us at the door. She couldn’t have done a better job of the tour in trying to explain their facility and what they could offer. She was great.
I’m scoring based on assisted living and what I was looking for. To me, I was touring because I wanted an assisted living place, and I didn’t feel like that’s what they were.

What to Consider About Assisted Living in Mequon
Regardless of the community you choose, all assisted living facilities in Mequon and surrounding areas must meet safety standards enforced by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Quality Assurance. This agency regulates four types of assisted living centers classified as adult day care facilities, adult family homes, community-based residential facilities and residential care apartment complexes.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Mequon
- Mequon is more pleasant than most communities in Wisconsin based on climate data. Seniors can expect chilly winters with above-average snowfall and lows in the teens. However, rainfall is average, and summers are pleasant with highs in the low 80s.
- Seniors who have advanced medical needs or are interested in preventive care are in an excellent location. Nearly two dozen hospitals are located in the greater Milwaukee area, and Mequon’s Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee specializes in treating heart failure. Mequon also has 442 physicians per 100,000 residents compared to the U.S. average of 210.
- Individuals who have chronic medical conditions, such as asthma or COPD, should be aware that Ozaukee County has poor air quality. Although it received an A rating for 24-hour particulates, the American Lung Association gave it an F for ozone pollution. Seniors may need to take extra precautions during the summer months and on high-ozone days.
