"Discovery Commons North Shore was very nice and very clean. The people were nice. My mom passed away a month ago. We ended up putting her there, and it was excellent all the way to the end. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! The care was excellent. The manager of the area was good. When you walk in, people always greet you with a smile. They just treated you royally. It's very clean, and it doesn't stink. They could do a little bit better with the food. My mother said, "I don't want to see another hot dog. I'm sick of hot dogs." They cooked a lot of hot dogs for lunch every day. They need better variety and better food. In terms of activities, they always get something going. It was very expensive, though. It was $8,995 a month. The care and the medical stuff that they had to do were okay, but the food was what really brought it down."

"We are choosing Ellen's Home of Germantown South for my husband because it seemed like a good fit for him. It was more sparsely populated and there was more room for him since people weren't right on top of each other. The place was very neat and the rooms were nice-sized. They had a bird aviary there, which was very interesting. It just looked like things were under control. No locks on the door, which was something different but necessary for some. The staff was very helpful and informative. Overall, it was a very good tour experience. It just felt right."

"Ellen's Home of Germantown was very nice. They were very friendly. They were accommodating. We discussed different issues and personal belongings, and they were very accommodating and tried to help solve how we could accommodate different things. Overall, they were just willing to help in any way, shape, or form. They were nicely laid out. Everything was clean. I didn't see anything in disrepair. Everything looked quite nice."

"The reason I chose Lutheran Home for my dad is because I needed a memory care skilled nursing-physical therapy facility that could move into long-term care if I needed it. And I needed a facility that could provide my dad his own private room throughout all of these because treating them in a dormitory-style when these people are older is not fair to them. They're used to having their own space as adults, and I wanted to give him that dignity of having his own bedroom. He had a dog, and also my mam passed two and a half years ago, so he had gotten especially close to his dog. And this facility allowed that dog to come and visit him as often as he wanted and needed, which was huge. My dad was very religious. He's Roman Catholic. And though this was a Lutheran-run facility, they had Catholic service on Wednesdays and communions twice a week so he could continue participating in his religion. And there were many activities and interactions for those in the memory care ward. The food looked appealing. My dad ate primarily the sandwiches and the soups. He loved the soups. And he got a little bit more difficult, so they would send me a menu each week and I could pick exactly what he was going to eat, and there were some substitutes. It would have been nice if they had more substitutes, but I worked with the staff and we made it work, and I appreciated that from them. And I was able to bring in my own meals. and they would provide those to him. The staff members were fantastic. I was watching how they were interacting, not only with my dad, but also with the other residents, and they at all times treated everybody with respect. I never saw them ignore any of the residents in the memory ward. They were always doing their best to ensure that everybody was safe but also spoken to respectfully. And that goes a long way in my books. The other thing I will say is that my dad passed this past Monday, and the love that they gave to my dad, but also to me, during his final hours, I'll never forget. During those three months that he was there, he had developed a family with those caretakers, and they really cared for him, but they also cared for me. They're very expensive, but you get what you pay for. They're at the top-end in terms of cost, it's not a cheap facility, but if you can afford it, it's worth it."

"The Arboretum Senior Living was nice. It was not as clean as we would have liked. My husband saw some spilled food on the floor. And I think it was a little bit of a fly problem in certain areas. The staff was nice, friendly, and willing to answer any questions. The rooms were appropriately sized. There was a patio out on the front door, but that was right on the parking lot. It was less than ideal as far as the atmosphere."

"I love Brookdale Brookfield Capitol Drive. I thought that it was very clean. The staff was incredibly friendly. It was very welcoming. I enjoyed the place, to be honest. They had a couple of different areas where people were able to gather, like in the front, when you first walked in, there was a place. There was also a TV room and an activity room. It was very nice. The apartments were a very good size, especially for somebody who needs memory care. They were very clean. They were able to be customized by yourself. They even have little things outside of your room, almost like a shadow box, to describe the resident. It was cute. It's just out of our price range and insurance will not cover it. The staff was incredibly welcoming. It was almost like a family environment. The place hasn't been updated in a while. However, even with that, the place was very clean. It smelled clean. You could tell that they all took pride in their space and their jobs."
