"We have decided on Gazebo for my parents. The place is assisted living, so they provide hot meals, a ride to doctors' appointments, and so on. My parents will have a one-bedroom apartment. I had a great experience with the staff. They seemed enthusiastic, welcoming, and answered my questions. I could go back any time to measure the furniture they want to bring in, so they're very easy to work with. We had lunch there and it was good. They have many choices and there are options at every meal. The residents sit down and order from the available choices for each meal. There's also a menu posted ahead of time. They have an activities coordinator who introduced herself to us while we were over there measuring yesterday. They have movies, exercise classes, games, puzzle groups, crafting, bingo, and other normal stuff you see in this kind of places."

"I went to The Converse Home. It is very comfortable and very welcoming. The room is very nice, small but clean. It's well taken care of. I think the memory unit has under 20 people. They have very good, very nice staff. The dining room is very nice. They have a good chef. They were doing something when we were there that day. They were sitting in a circle and interacting with one another. They had someone leading them into some kind of activity. They also have a garden area and a gazebo. It's a very warm atmosphere."

"The staff at Allenwood at Pillsbury Manor was very nice, helpful, and full of energy. The bedroom is adequate for one person. They have a room for art classes, another room for playing cards, and a very nice dining area, but they don’t have a pool. "

"The tour we had at Wake Robin was very nice. What I didn't like was that of course, you're in Vermont, it was a hilly location, so there were different levels for different buildings. There were walkways and I thought for older people, it would be a little difficult getting around. I didn't think the inside was as nice. It was an older facility, but my daughter had raved about it. She said everyone she knows loves it there. They had lots of activities for everybody. They were having an ice cream social and there were quite a few people at that. They also had art, woodworking, tennis and pickleball, and an exercise room. They were a little more expensive. I think they're about $4500, but you would automatically move into assisted living without an increase in cost. To me, that seemed more desirable to an elderly person."

"The Kirby House is a licensed Level 3 facility that averages about 30 residents, at least 70% of whom have been there over 10 years. There are even a few that have been there for 15-20+ years! They have round-the-clock nursing staff who all seem very knowledgeable and helpful. It is evident that all the staff actually WANT to be there and LOVE what they do. The residents and their illnesses, difficulties, and the way they [the residents] handle them varies greatly. This, one would expect, could be quite a difficult handful at times. But even though I saw most of the residents have a bad day from time (like anyone), the staff were able, confident, and patient with every situation that arose. I did see a couple of moderately difficult situations occur as one would expect in a house of 30 residents and a few staff to have problems of conflict, disagreements, etc., even if all of them had NO problems. But the way the residents (who treat each other like a close family) and the staff resolve and diffuse those situations is so well done that it was like a perfect & finely tuned watch. It was amazing to see just how well they all got along that I was actually moved almost to tears. With all that said, it may come as no surprise, then, that though it is a Level 3 Nursing Care & Assisted Living Facility, the staff (and residents) prefer to run it more like a Family's Home. They still certainly are more that compliant with the Rules, Laws, and Regulations set by the State of Vermont and Federal Government, but it still has a warm heart within that is easily heard and felt by all. "

"Pine Harbor seems to be a very pleasant place to live. There are plenty of social activities for the residents, which I believe is very important for the emotional well-being of the residents. There is also a lot of community involvement. My daughter's Girl Scout troop has been invited to the nursing home on various occasions for Christmas Caroling, craft making etc. Local school students have been to the facility to spend time with the residents. The place has been very clean each time I have been, and also has a cheery decor. Also, the staff have been very pleasant, and seem to really care about the residents. Another plus is that the facility is very close to Lake Champlain, so the residents can go outside and have a nice view. The people staying at Pine Harbor seem to enjoy being there. Due to the amount of community involvement and social activities, the residents are able to still feel like they are part of the outside world, this leads to less depression and feelings of isolation. It's great that the facility is open for all kinds of visitation opportunities. Another great thing about Pine Harbor is it doesn't have that "hospital" feel that some of the other facilities of this type have. It has more of a home-like environment. I would trust Pine Harbor with one of my friends or relatives if the need ever arose. "

"The experience overall was very pleasent. The employees were very attentive and well mannered. Any needs that came about were met quickly and efficiently without problems. The quality of life seems to be high as well. All the residents i interacted with all spoke highly of their experiences there and were more than willing to recommend it to others with possible needs in everyday living assistance. "

"My mother has been in Saint Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for two weeks now. They do not offer any private rooms -- which was what she had before -- so it is an adjustment for her to have a shared room. The nurses seem very attentive. The rooms are always clean, which is nice. My mother is having issues with eating, so the food has to be pureed for her. She is in the final stages of Alzheimer's. Since she is only 10 miles from me, this is the most convenient for all of us right now. "

"Holiday House Residential Care Home is a wonderful and caring community. They took wonderful care of my grandmother. I found it to always be clean and the staff to be excellent. It is also locally owned and operated. They are associated with have Franklin County Rehab Center which is also a great place. My family visited Franklin County Rehab for a short term rehabilitation stay as well and loved the care there too. However, she wanted to come back to her home Holiday House. Holiday House has recently done a lot of renovations to the building including Resident Rooms, Common Areas and bathrooms, and office areas. It is really beautiful and a great place to have your loved one cared for. "
