"I went to The Converse Home. It is very comfortable and very welcoming. The room is very nice, small but clean. It's well taken care of. I think the memory unit has under 20 people. They have very good, very nice staff. The dining room is very nice. They have a good chef. They were doing something when we were there that day. They were sitting in a circle and interacting with one another. They had someone leading them into some kind of activity. They also have a garden area and a gazebo. It's a very warm atmosphere."

"From the times I visited Pillsbury Manor, it seemed like a quiet, comfortable place to live that my grandfather enjoyed. It provided enough independence so that he could maintain his pride, but the assistance that we were no longer able to provide for him in our own home. He spoke often of the friends he made there, both staff and other residents, and he seemed genuinely happy. As his condition worsened, the facility was able to provide more intensive care and was flexible in working with his needs. The staff were very pleasant, the the building itself was always tidy. One thing I disliked about it was that oftentimes I would walk into the building and there was nobody around - staff or otherwise. I think my grandfather enjoyed socializing more than this place allowed for, but it did have its fair share of activities. However, this potential need for more staff did manifest itself once when my grandfather was able to sneak out of the facility with his scooter and ended up driving it over a mile down a very busy road, eventually toppling over into a ditch. It scares me to think that during that entire process nobody spotted him or did anything to stop him. "

"I really thought the staff there did everything they could to make my grandfather happy and comfortable. He was a difficult patient at times, and while I'm not sure he was the most difficult of them, he ranked up near the top. The activities that I saw were pleasant and fun, and the staff was always willing to go the extra mile to make sure needs were taken care of. That being said, my grandfather has now proven to be too difficult for them at this facility, and we needed to find a new place for him. It must be very difficult to help these community members day in and day out with what we consider simple tasks, so I commend the staff there for never getting too frustrated in sight of the patients or patients family. One time when I visited I found that they have a "flight risk" patient who always tries to leave the facility when guests come in to visit other people. Seeing how they handled that situation, allowing the woman to keep her dignity while also not allowing her to wander off into the road made me very confident. The food there was passable, but that's really the best I can say of it. "

"My parents are moving into Mansfield Place. They are licensed to access Medicare. They're a full-service nursing facility. We had the opportunity to visit their dining facility and to visit their activities. They had several activities rooms. The facility is very well-kept. Their rooms are spacious. The facility is set up so that the wings are accessible based on the care that you require. So the assisted living wings are all accessible by Assisted Living residence, so my mother can leave her apartment and go to an activities room and not be worried about being lost. She can access what she's allowed to access based on her evaluation. I'm happy that my mother would not be a wandering risk, which is something that's a very big deal. There are several residents here that my parents know, including my mother's sister, who is in a memory care wing at this facility. So that was a big bonus as well, was that my mother would be able to visit with her sister. I enjoyed meeting all of the staff that I have met so far. They're all very welcoming and friendly. They have a gathering place. They call it the pub where you can meet and greet, and have a drink with your fellow residents. They have a movie theater room where they have dinner and a movie, or movies to watch together as a group instead of sitting in their room by themselves and watching them. Mansfield Place is right on the bike path in Essex Junction. So I think with assisted living, my mother can leave the facility to walk the bike path as long as she's accompanied because she's a fall risk. It's close to the restaurants and the shops that they like to frequent. And it's close to their family so that they can be easily visited. The place is very clean."

"Wake Robin seems to be a wonderful place, though very expensive. All the apartments are nice and well equipped and there are ample community spaces, including pool tables, libraries, gardens, walking trails, etc. Peace of mind is almost quaranteed because of the onsite medical staff and round-the-clock care. When my step grandmother had to be moved into the 24 hour care facility (on site) it went really smoothly, even though she was reluctant to go. The nurses in that wing are so great and they cheerfully do all the tasks required of taking care of elderly people in their last stages of life. They even follow Alzheimer's patients around to make sure they don't get in trouble! If I could ever afford to go there when I need to stop living at home, I would. "

"The experience overall was very pleasent. The employees were very attentive and well mannered. Any needs that came about were met quickly and efficiently without problems. The quality of life seems to be high as well. All the residents i interacted with all spoke highly of their experiences there and were more than willing to recommend it to others with possible needs in everyday living assistance. "

"Pine Harbor seems to be a very pleasant place to live. There are plenty of social activities for the residents, which I believe is very important for the emotional well-being of the residents. There is also a lot of community involvement. My daughter's Girl Scout troop has been invited to the nursing home on various occasions for Christmas Caroling, craft making etc. Local school students have been to the facility to spend time with the residents. The place has been very clean each time I have been, and also has a cheery decor. Also, the staff have been very pleasant, and seem to really care about the residents. Another plus is that the facility is very close to Lake Champlain, so the residents can go outside and have a nice view. The people staying at Pine Harbor seem to enjoy being there. Due to the amount of community involvement and social activities, the residents are able to still feel like they are part of the outside world, this leads to less depression and feelings of isolation. It's great that the facility is open for all kinds of visitation opportunities. Another great thing about Pine Harbor is it doesn't have that "hospital" feel that some of the other facilities of this type have. It has more of a home-like environment. I would trust Pine Harbor with one of my friends or relatives if the need ever arose. "

"I am very glad that my grandmother has such a caring and considerate staff to look over her. The best thing is how they have activities for the residents to take part in that are fun and engaging. For example, they have community style meals in a communal dining hall and the residents are all encouraged to socialize.I also like how it is a small and intimate community. My grandmother has always been a bit of a poet and writer, and they always encourage her to keep up at it, even as she is becoming a bit more forgetful. "

"The Kirby House is a licensed Level 3 facility that averages about 30 residents, at least 70% of whom have been there over 10 years. There are even a few that have been there for 15-20+ years! They have round-the-clock nursing staff who all seem very knowledgeable and helpful. It is evident that all the staff actually WANT to be there and LOVE what they do. The residents and their illnesses, difficulties, and the way they [the residents] handle them varies greatly. This, one would expect, could be quite a difficult handful at times. But even though I saw most of the residents have a bad day from time (like anyone), the staff were able, confident, and patient with every situation that arose. I did see a couple of moderately difficult situations occur as one would expect in a house of 30 residents and a few staff to have problems of conflict, disagreements, etc., even if all of them had NO problems. But the way the residents (who treat each other like a close family) and the staff resolve and diffuse those situations is so well done that it was like a perfect & finely tuned watch. It was amazing to see just how well they all got along that I was actually moved almost to tears. With all that said, it may come as no surprise, then, that though it is a Level 3 Nursing Care & Assisted Living Facility, the staff (and residents) prefer to run it more like a Family's Home. They still certainly are more that compliant with the Rules, Laws, and Regulations set by the State of Vermont and Federal Government, but it still has a warm heart within that is easily heard and felt by all. "
