My mother-in-law moved to Champlain Valley Senior Community. Her arthritis is such that she can only sleep in this electrically powered chair and it's around the corner. You can adjust your head, you can tilt it back and forth and see the feet down. It's a pretty nice piece of equipment. We looked into the places in Carthage and the other places in Oswego and they wouldn't touch it because it was electric. They said you can't have it, and so we kept looking. The people of Champlain Valley Senior Community were very accepting and very flexible, and that's why we're there. It's further away. It's a pain to get to, but it's actually a lot prettier. The area is beautiful and the place looks like it was an old school, but they made it look like a high-class hotel. It's very nice. Like an old time, a really old time classic hotel. It's all brick. Whatever on the inside, just the way it's lit up in the way it's decorated, it's very nice. Very old fashioned. If you're 93 years old, it looks pretty good. We looked at rooms there. My mother-in-law is on the small side, but they have suites if you are a married couple that was going there. They have places like double occupancy, but they're nicely separated there. It's very accommodating for all sorts of different situations. Each room has its own television. They also have the internet. They also have internet connections in their rooms. I suppose you have to pay additional for that, but you have to deal with the cable company. We looked at the menu. It's very nice, regular healthy old food. We had lunch there. The staff was very nice. Jen is the case manager and the overall manager is Mary, and she was very helpful in getting us over there.

The rooms are beautiful and kept clean. The staff are always friendly and helpful and there is always someone around. The residents enjoy live music, lunch outings, bingo, happy hour, movies and many others. There is always coffee, water, gatorade and ice cream available for the residents at any time of day. The staff are vigilant and check-in on all of the residents regularly. Medications are also carefully distributed and family members are communicated with regarding any changes or concerns.

Searching for long-term care for loved ones is a daunting task. Our family was fortunate to find the Champlain Valley Senior Community in Willsboro, New York. Our father suffers from dementia and was in need of care that we simply could not provide at home. The folks at Champlain Valley are kind, compassionate and caring, all you can ask for in a facility that is looking after a loved one. The facility is beautiful, clean, peaceful and provides a wonderful view of the Bouquet River. Living out of state, we appreciate the regular updates and communication from staff, keeping us apprised of his condition between visits. Champlain Valley is a gem of the North County.

Good morning, Mary, and thank you for the kind words. I hope the staff at CVSC know how much I appreciated them and the care they gave my father. "Journey" is the word that comes to mind when I think of him - every day was a journey. Over time, I grew to understand just how little I knew about dementia and about the many forms it takes. And that it looks a little different every day. CVSC provided a safe and loving environment for my father. He loved the outdoors, and I know he took opportunities to go out in the garden when it was warm and sunny. Some of the staff even sent photos of my dad smiling or a video of him dancing. I treasure those. Thanks to a life spent hiking, canoeing, skiing and camping, he was a physically strong person - and I know that his physical strength played a significant role in caring for him, and how difficult it could be for the staff during times when he was agitated. I am so grateful to the staff that they continued to communicate with me, continued to try to find new ways to handle difficult situations. They didn't give up on us. That is the most that any family can hope for in these type of situations. We were fortunate. All the best to you as you all continue YOUR journey. Carla

My mother just passed away at 94 after living at CVSC for the past 14 months. My mother and I were both very pleased with the amazing staff and the high quality of services they provided to me as a family member and to my mother as a resident. CVSC leadership and staff are well trained and dedicated to the happiness and well being of the residents. Of course issues can arise in any such setting but when they do the issues are minor and addressed fully. My mother also received a week of end of life care from Hospice and the team at CBSC. I was welcomed to stay in the room with my mother during that sad week. Not only did the staff support my mothers unique needs around the clock they also Tended to my well being through my mothers final days.

I liked that the residents at Champlain Valley Senior Community could eat at any time. Whether they missed the regularly scheduled meal or not, they could get food at any hour. I liked that they have seating out front so that a resident could go out and sit in the yard and not just be in their room. I felt comfortable that my sister would get the care that she needed there. The staff was very welcoming. The dining area was very clean. Due to COVID restrictions, if I wanted to go eat with my sister there, I wouldn't be able to eat in the dining room, but they have a separate area where you could go and visit and have lunch with your family members. That was nice. They have a salon area, a little chapel area, and a little small library area, too. They would also set up Zoom visits once a week with the family members.

We looked at all the local memory care options for our mother when her dementia, combined with her high mobility and good general health, made it too difficult to care for her in our home. We found CVSC offered the best care at the most reasonable price, in the most comfortable, safe and least restrictive environment. She was always well cared for at CVSC. The staff were friendly, skillful and engaged with all the residents in the memory care. They made obvious accommodations for each resident's ability and preferences while keeping everyone safe; this is not a one-size-fits-all institution. The staff and administration were proactive in communicating with us, whether for behavioral changes, small injuries, or required trips to the hospital. Critically, COVID precautions were followed by everyone, and the building was COVID-free when other local nursing homes were not. Finally, our whole family was well-supported at the end of our mother's life, when hospice was called in to oversee her care. The hospice nurses worked seamlessly with the regular CVSC staff, and stated that they found CVSC's end-of-life care to be exceptional, and the best available in the area. We have every reason to believe that is true!

My dad was in his nineties when he became a resident at CVSC. We were hesitant at first due to the relative remoteness of the location. I soon adjusted to the drive living 2 hours to the south of Willsboro and came to look forward to the drive because of the beauty and peacefulness of the area. Dad was there for a period of about one and 1/2 years. He was well cared for by the staff and came to think of them as 'family'. We found everyone to be genuinely kind and caring which made a difficult period a more gentle one. Dad transitioned to the Memory Care as his verbal abilities deteriorated and it was the right move as he enjoyed the increased camradery and social interaction. The amenities are lovely and the whole building is clean and attractive. In my opinion it appeared to be the best available in the north country and we were very happy that they admitted dad.

I was very pleased with this facility when I visited it. They re-furbished the old Willsboro school & it is very pleasant. The employees were very helpful as well. I would be happy placing my Mom here.

Champlain Valley was very nice. I looked at the dementia part of it. I thought it was very well organized that they had trips for the people who are able to leave. Unfortunately, my mother is in the last stages of Alzheimer's, so she wouldn't be obviously able to do that. They showed me an empty room. The nurses all seemed to be very caring; however, this place is too far away.

My mom has been a resident for almost 2 years. I never thought she would leave her home of 80 years, but she loves her new home. It was not easy at first. She went in temporarily for respite care for a few months, and it took a her a while to adjust. When I brought her back home, she couldn't stop raving about how nice everyone was and didn't have one complaint about the place. She asked if she could go back and visit some time. A few weeks later, she moved in permanently. She has made friends, and the staff really seems to care for her, and she loves them, too. I currently live 5 hours away from her and try to visit at least once a month. It's not ideal for me, but I am confident she is being well cared for, which gives me peace of mind. She always seems happy and content when I talk to her and visit her, and the staff keeps me up to date with any medical issues that arise.

My husband and I volunteer on a weekly basis at CVSC. We often come and go throughout the week and so we are graced to see the residents at all different times of the day. Whether they are at excercise, at dinner, being ushered to dr appointments or having a fun activity I see the staff being focused, attentive and compassionate. The food is "excellent" and extends to parties, gatherings and such. I graduated from this faciluty when it was a school and it does my heart good to see it revamped and put to such good use.

This review is long overdue. My mother-in-law entered this facility's dementia area in late May 2014, and she wasn't very happy to leave her home. However within two weeks, she was adjusted, liked her room, loved the food, and soaked up the loving attention she received from the staff in that unit and found new friends. It was convenient for my husband and myself as we live in Willsboro. If there was a concern, we talked with Gary or the nurses or staff, and it was always resolved in a very timely and satisfactory manner. She loved attending the church service that Janice Allen provided every Sunday and was always waiting for her hug at the end of the service. Her placement at this facility provided a special bonding time between mother and son in the last months of her life. We cannot express enough our gratefulness to the staff and for the fact that such a facility is in our community. Medical issues caused her to leave this facility in November. We dearly wish that she had been able to continue to be in their loving care until the end.

This is a rather new facility but it is beautiful. The rooms are spacious and you can decorate as you wish. They have movie nights complete with Popcorn, ice cream socials, live music groups that come about once a week. They have outings, they have been apple picking, pumpkin picking and face painting, they take hikes, shopping expeditions and dinners out. At first my Mom was very reclusive but got over that rather quickly and has made several friends. I have ben to visit a few times and twice Mom has informed me that she is sorry she cannot visit but she is busy doing this or that. At first I was hurt but realise now that she has fitin and started her new life. It is nice to know that she is safe and protected, eating 3 meals a day plus treats which she rally likes. The staff has made her feel right at home and have made me a welcome guest. I have to give them a 5 star review and they deserve it. They really know how to show they care.
