Assisted Living Communities in Shawnee, OK

"I went to Brookdale Shawnee to visit a relative. She was very happy there. The food looked good and they tried to have balanced meals for them. They have activities which include making little things like sewing up dolls for hospital patients and bingo. The staff evidently is very good about taking care of her and there's been no complaints from her."

"My wife and I toured Arbor House of Midwest City. We liked the quality of the living conditions. The service of the person who took us on the tour is high quality. The place is nice and beautiful. And the people are nice. We went there for a place to stay of a quality that we could accept and that was there. The offer for full service and programs of outreach going out into the city occasionally are the things that were very attractive to us. Some things were available inside assisted living that would keep us occupied like educational opportunities and social atmosphere. The location is so convenient for everything like shopping. There are auto mechanics and service stations, too. Everything is so convenient. I live right on the same street."

"I toured Morada Midwest City. It was nice. It was clean. The rooms were smaller than what they were in the other facility. The biggest thing that I liked was the activities. They had daily activities. They posted it on the board, things of that nature. So that was a big win for me because that's something that my mother enjoys. The staff was very personable."

"We're able to tour Brookdale Norman and that's the best place. We've tried the food and there's a very friendly staff, I liked it. We got to meet some of the people there and we ate lunch, it sold us. The food was for seniors obviously, but it was still very good, it's excellent. They served the people and they come and cleaned it up, it's just nice. The rooms we saw were really good, they had an area where we could set up a microwave and have snacks in the room if we wanted to. Plus there's a separate bedroom and a little living room. It's not big because we don't want it big anyway, but it's nice. They worked hard at keeping the place clean, they don't have the smells and stuff. They had a lot of stuff, they had a board set up where they had all their activities for the week and you could see what was going on. They could participate in a lot of different things, there's an area where everybody could get together if they wanted to. They also have an ice cream social, they sit and listen to people that came and played music, which was nice."

"I toured Avonlea Cottage of Shawnee. It was very nice. It's small. They have 15 or 16 residents. But I'm waiting to hear back from them with the prices. The girl wasn't there yesterday when I went over, so I left my number and she said she'd call me sometime today to give me an idea what the cost is. The staff was very nice and very friendly. They went out of their way to take me around and look over everything. They're very good. The facility was clean and very well cared for. They have a lovely park-like setting outside because there's a green strip right behind them, and it was nice there. You could go out and sit. I was telling the girl when she was showing their back patio that it's kind of like I do here as I go out on the front porch. They've got birdhouses and flowers. It's set up for somebody like me. They had everything they needed for gardening if you want to garden. The staff was very nice explaining things as we went on. The facilities were very clean and everything was in its place."

"Primrose Retirement Community of Shawnee was very clean and the apartments were beautiful. The director was very nice and you could tell he cared about the people. They sent us a little cherry pie to go for each of us, and it was delicious. They had a theater room for the residents, a coffee bar, a beauty shop, and a fitness center some of them would use. It was expensive, but it was very nice."
