"My mother is at the Bedford Suites at Arrington Assisted Living. I chose it because it was very convenient. It has always had a very good reputation. It's a very attractive building and is always kept nice and clean. My mother only lived about two blocks from there, so I felt like she would feel more at home not being so far away. There are two sections in the Arrington building. One is called the Arrington, which is just assisted living, and then there are two wings from it that are called the Bedford Suites, and they are for memory care and assisted living. In Arrington, you're expected to pretty well take care of yourself, but in Bedford, they do more personal care, and that is where she is right now. They have some exercise and ring toss, and several games like that that they can play. They have several nice patios that are enclosed and are very nicely landscaped, and places where they can push their walkers around on a paved path, and some nice trees. They've got rocking chairs and that kind of thing. They encourage them to do things like help plant the pots in those areas. I've seen the food. My brother tried it and he said that it was delicious. Guests can eat for $7.50 a meal. They were very accommodating. My mother has some dentures that make it difficult for her to chew hard things. We told them that and we gave her a long list of food that we knew she liked. Halfway through the second day, the kitchen had adjusted to her dietary needs, and she was eating and enjoying the food, and eating it a lot more than she had been at home. She almost cleaned her plate, and we were very glad to see that. They gave them three meals a day and in-between snacks that they went around and passed around. One day, I came in to check on my mother. It was mid-afternoon, and she was walking down the hall, pushing her walker and eating a strawberry ice cream cone. Her own doctor comes and makes regular rounds there at that facility, so he can check on her there. We won't have to take her into his office. Everything was nice and clean. Before we moved in, they had completely repainted the room. They had put in new carpet. They'd given us a really good list of things we needed to comply with for her. The staff is fabulous, loving, caring, and accommodating, and they've got nurses and care professionals, several housekeeping people, and laundry people. They're well-staffed. It's also very attractive. There are a lot of things to stimulate them. They have plants and a large curio cabinet that they had set up to be an aviary. It has live birds in it. The people seem to be calm and happy. They stay in touch with the patients a lot and check on them quite regularly, but I haven't seen them doing a whole lot of things like playing games. My nephew said he saw a quilting area set up at one time. They also do crafts. It's a good value for the money."
