Part of the greater Memphis area, DeSoto County is the second-most populous county in Mississippi. It is home to 184,945 people, of whom 13.2% are seniors. Assisted living prices in the state of Mississippi vary, and northern DeSoto County has some of the highest costs. In the center of the state, capital city Jackson is slightly more affordable, at $4,348 per month. Further south, Hattiesburg has the highest assisted living prices in the state. Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in DeSoto County

The State of Mississippi offers an Assisted Living Waiver to help offset the costs of assisted living. Applicants must be Medicaid-eligible either as a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient or by meeting the income level up to 300 percent of the SSI federal benefit rate.
