"My father likes Brookdale Destin. He has no problems with it nor has he complained about any of the caregivers. The only drawback is the charges are ala carte. He's only taking one pill, and they're charging me $425 to issue one pill a day. Everything else is fine, and the cost is not that bad. He has a 1-bedroom, 1-bath with a fully equipped kitchen, and the fee includes meals, housekeeping, and assistance with bathing. The facility is nice and it's not like a nursing home. It's more like an apartment complex, and it's within a resort. They take them to stores and restaurants. They're classified as a level 1 facility, which means even if he progresses to where he is bedridden or invalid, he can stay in his 1-bedroom apartment. They have a doctor on staff who can take care of him right here. He doesn't have to transfer to another facility because of higher level of care. He loves the food, it's like going to a restaurant, and it's three meals a day. They have carpeted hallways and an excellent activity program."

"The Beacon at Gulf Breeze is something that I wish I had known about a long time ago. The tour experience was amazing. Michael was our tour guide, and he explained everything. He showed us what family members can come and experience with their loved ones. I didn't see anything wrong with it. It would be hard for me to accept that my dad would not want to. This place is awesome. It's close to his dialysis center and it's close to even my house. They have a great menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have the option of doing an ala carte. I have not seen that at any other places. They have transportation if they need it, and they do trips in the assisted living side to like baseball games in Pensacola to see the Wahoos. They go out to eat or to different shopping centers. It's a community within the community and they try to let these people have a good time, make them feel they're not alone, but yet still independent. It's a really good place. They have a variety of rooms that they can choose from and they can start as a studio apartment up to a one-bedroom. If they're still married, for added fees, the spouse can live with them. The rooms are spacious. The bathrooms are accommodating, no slips, there are bars, and there are chairs in the showers. They take their safety seriously with the guests there. I got to observe the dining hall for dinner, and it's enormous and very spacious. They have room for guests that are in wheelchairs. They even have a separate room if the family wants to come and dine with their loved one. They have karaoke nights, a happy hour, and a movie room. They have recliner chairs in there for them, comfortable seating, and popcorn machines. They have two courtyards, and the one for assisted living has putt-putt golf and outdoor seating. It's like a covered patio area where they can go and eat outside or go in and out all day. It's just beautiful. I got to see their arts and crafts facility there. We got to see the nurses taking care of and serving meds to the guests there. They can have pets in their room or I can bring our dogs to see my dad. I had a chance to look at their menus and these are not regular cafeteria menus. They try to give them a variety of things every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At dinnertime, if they don't like what's on the menu, they have a menu that's ala carte. They can have like a club sandwich or a hamburger with chips or fries. They have a wide variety of drinks that are available to them and it's healthy food. You don't get that at skilled living nursing homes or some of the other facilities where they have a set menu. They give them a pretty good variety of options for their menus. Even some of the guests that we met loved it there. Michael was amazing. He didn't leave anything out. He showed us everything this place has to offer. He was very accommodating and he answered all our questions. Even with figures and numbers, they explained everything very well. There was no confusion. They let us know about the programs that offer assistance to people that may need it. After a certain time, you can have visitors, but people just can't walk in and out. They have that extra protection for the guests and the staff."

"Airforce Enlisted Village or Bob Hope Village is excellent for retired enlisted military, and it's also just an excellent community. Plus it's close to where my family lives so it's an ideal location for me personally. It's independent living and goes all the way to assisted and memory care. The staff that accommodated us was outstanding, very helpful and personable. The room that we saw there was very good, spacious, up-to-date and safe. We also discussed about the amenities for the residents. As far as being accessible to the base and things for retired people, it's excellent. It's right within 2 miles from the base."

"It's an emotional thing to make the decision to have your parent move to an Assisted Living or Memory Care Facility. I can't imagine a better spot to have a loved one go. The facility and grounds are beautiful from the Memory Garden, and Chapel to the front lobby, common areas and the wings which are clusters of rooms for the residents. The staff from all areas, dining, maintenance, nursing, administrative and activities are amazing. Their loving care is a blessing to the residents and the family members. The spirit of Hawthorn House comes from the top and you can see it everywhere. simply a wonderful experience! "

"It was a beautiful establishment. Ms. Harris was the director, and she was the one who personally did the tour. It was a wonderful establishment. It's new. The grounds are beautiful and wonderfully maintained. The biggest factor that my friend needs is the amount of outside activities, and there needs to be a little bit more activities to engage them. They are more of an apartment setting (it's one level)."

"This place is wonderful! It isn't one of the newer fancier assistant living facilities but the staff make up for that. It meets all of my mom's needs and I feel very confident she is in great hands. "

"The Blake at Miramar Beach has a tremendous amount of activities I dearly love because I can go any time I can. We go out to restaurants, to the theaters, and shopping like Holly Lobby. Also, we've had all kinds of activities where they come in and we do molding clay. So, it's constant and I enjoy all the activities and I emphasize that because if I went to a place with no activities, I'd be very depressed, unhappy, and I probably wouldn't stay. The staff has been wonderful. I cannot complain. There's no one ever that I would say I do not like. I am served food three times a day if I go to the lunchroom. Sometimes their food is good. Sometimes it's not to my liking. It's OK. I usually eat once and then in my room, I eat the other. I do my own food preparations. The facilities are fine. I've got a bathroom with a complete shower. I don't have a kitchen area, which I dearly missed, but I have a microwave to warm up food and I have my own coffee. If I want their food, I go down to the lunchroom, but I only go depending on if they have the kind of food I prefer. There's a stove downstairs that I can go to and use and that's another activity. Once a week, they prepare a cooking session. This week, we're going to be preparing pecan pie. So you could go down, participate in that, and eat leftovers. So, I enjoyed that. Because across the street, we are on the bay, I am paying a lot more than I would pay elsewhere. Do I use the beach? No, but I have no control over that. This is an expensive area."

"Somerby of Santa Rosa Beach was fairly new, had a nice outdoor area, but the apartments didn't have any porches or balconies. They have a memory care facility as well. It was nice, clean, very bright, cheery, had a nice outdoor area in the back like a little lake with a fountain in it and umbrellas and chairs which were nice to sit at. It was just a nice facility. They showed me one of the little apartments, which were nice, but I don't think my parents can live there because they were too small. It had a kitchenette. They do a lot of activities. A lady from my church just recently moved there and I saw her and she was very pleased with living there. The staff was very nice."

"Eden at Crestview is beautiful and very clean. The people were friendly. They showed me everything and answered all my questions. I called back this morning, and they knew me. They called me by name when I got there. It's top-notch so far. The rooms were beautiful and clean. They even have a microwave in them, I was surprised."

"Crescent Park Village is outstanding. My mother has been there for a number of years, and she has been treated with dignity; extremely good care. The food, and overall service is good. They really look after their residents individually. It is a nice, and very pleasant facility. It has a family setting. You feel like a family there. "

"Sandy Tingle and her staff at Carrington provided a safe place for both of my wife’s parents during their end of life transition periods. Sandy and her staff are loving and caring people and nurtured and cared for both of my wife’s parents as closely as if they were their own parents. What a blessing they are to our community. "The people at Crestview Manor are wonderful, and I'm pretty impressed with everyone I have met. I see them doing their job throughout the day, because I'm there quite often. It's not as pretty as the other places, but they all seem to care, and they keep you informed. Other than that, I have no complaints. My mother has been there for seven weeks now. The lady that runs the place is right there on the spot, and they don't even have to call her. She'll come right at you, and she'll take her time and talk to you, no matter how long it will take to make you understand and hear your problem. They have very nice attendants, even the ones that do the laundry and make the room clean, and the ones that take her to dinners or lunches and medications. It just seems overall good so far. "
