"I took a tour of The Palms at La Quinta's memory care for my brother. I like the floorplan, and the staff who gave the tour was very informative. The downside was the room. It was like a college dorm room. Another thing was that there wasn't a whole lot of latitude that they would allow people to come in and do a visit. The staff said, "We don't do that. I don't want your brother to come in here and visit and have lunch and see what's going on. We just bring them in. We tell them a story that your house is being fumigated or whatever, so you're going to stay here for a couple of nights." And as it turns out, the patient stays there forever. So, I didn't like the flexibility as far as visits go. The other properties pretty much would allow that. The staff was very good, they were very attentive. There were six or seven guy residents there, but it's primarily women. They were doing maybe an art project. They were very attentive and were all into it. I don't know what grade of dementia they have compared to my brother, but he may not be enthralled with being involved in these activities. I liked everything about it except for the room and the lack of visits. They also showed rooms where you had to share a bath, which is a negative for me. They do have private baths, but they charge you more bucks a month for them."
