I took a tour of The Palms at La Quinta's memory care for my brother. I like the floorplan, and the staff who gave the tour was very informative. The downside was the room. It was like a college dorm room. Another thing was that there wasn't a whole lot of latitude that they would allow people to come in and do a visit. The staff said, "We don't do that. I don't want your brother to come in here and visit and have lunch and see what's going on. We just bring them in. We tell them a story that your house is being fumigated or whatever, so you're going to stay here for a couple of nights." And as it turns out, the patient stays there forever. So, I didn't like the flexibility as far as visits go. The other properties pretty much would allow that. The staff was very good, they were very attentive. There were six or seven guy residents there, but it's primarily women. They were doing maybe an art project. They were very attentive and were all into it. I don't know what grade of dementia they have compared to my brother, but he may not be enthralled with being involved in these activities. I liked everything about it except for the room and the lack of visits. They also showed rooms where you had to share a bath, which is a negative for me. They do have private baths, but they charge you more bucks a month for them.

I went to look at The Palms at La Quinta, and they were welcoming. There was a little chalkboard there saying, "Welcome." The receptionist who I spoke to was very kind, and she understood. The memory care is on the first floor but they do have two floors. And then she showed me what areas they have for the family to meet and move around. They answered all my questions. It was very nice. They gave me some freshly baked cookies, and I saw their menu. They have a chef who meets with the residents to discuss the menu and see if they like the menu. They can change the menus to whatever diet meets my mother's needs. The rooms are very clean. The whole place is very clean. You can have a private room or a shared room. They share a bathroom but not the rooms.

I toured The Palms at La Quinta. The facility was very nice and very clean. The staff that we interacted with was very professional and very friendly. One thing that to me lacked, was something that we need for my mother was fall detection. There was no detection in the rooms if she were to fall. The staff was very professional and very friendly. We watched them interact with the other residents, and they seemed to show great care for the folks that are in their community. They seemed to be very clean and very well maintained, and everyone seemed to take pride in the community. The structure seemed to be fine. The condition seemed to be well maintained. The atmosphere was very welcoming.

My friend liked everything about The Palms at La Quinta Assisted Living and Memory Care. What she liked the least was the large dining room. Other than that, the staff was excellent during our tour. The view of the mountains was outstanding. She enjoyed that very much. She liked the modern style. It was neat and clean with huge windows and lots of sunlight. The swimming pool was easy to get to. She didn't think she'd get lost wandering around. She liked the theater very much and the casual room where you could go and get soft ice cream whenever you wanted. The staff were all friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous.

The Palms at La Quinta is the place that only had an hour or two to eat. They didn't know where their people were. Everybody else had one of those pendants or something that you push the button if they have an emergency and they would know where they're at. The Palms had one, but they didn't know where they were. They just knew it was an emergency. They didn't know if they were inside the building or outside the building. There's no swimming pool. It was not clean. I wasn't impressed with the staff. That's the one we wanted to go to because it's right around the corner from our house, which would have made it easy for us to get there. However, they are bad. They're probably the newest ones, but we weren't impressed with anything. It didn't feel clean. They need to have staff that is more personal and interactive with their people. They need to clean their place up. They need to upgrade, so they have a way to get to people and know that they need help. They didn't show me that they had enough activities. They need to improve on a lot of things.
