Assisted Living Communities in Vestavia Hills, AL

"I toured Monark Grove at Greystone. It was awesome. It was nice. The lady was nice. We had a good conversation. She showed me around every place and everything. We looked at some apartments. Everything is good. They have everything, a stove, a refrigerator, and all that stuff. The bedroom was fine. My main concern was having enough room for all my stuff because I have a lot of stuff, and the one I saw was big enough. They've got a patio with an outdoor grill. They also have an indoor pool. When I went by, I said, "Did anything go in there?", and she said, "No, it's a low-level pool, it's only so many feet, and it's not like the regular pool". So that was cool."

"My tour of The Crossings at Riverchase went well. The facility is only three years old, so it is very modern, and I like that. It was very clean. They had a pretty low turnover for the staff, at least up to that point. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. She has been in the business for a long time."

"Galleria Woods is impressive. I took the tour with Anne. I had more individual questions that I wanted to ask, and that's why I wanted to go back and speak to them, but it would be a wasted effort because there was no way I could afford their prices unless I got a loan. That doesn't seem practical for me, but the place was very nice, well-managed, and well-taken care of. They have a gym, a library, a salon, and everything you would expect. They're even going to be offering a movie theater. They also have a gazebo and lovely apartments. They took us through a two- bedroom and a one-bedroom that are both available. If I had my preference, I would snap up that two-bedroom apartment immediately. The staff was excellent and was super. Anne was thoughtful, informative, and caring. I think she would be a good person to interact with in getting more detailed information. She sent me a text message and said she would be willing to meet with me specifically one day next week. They're very good at what they do. They had an advertising luncheon and it was very, very good. We had filet mignon. It was very nice and it was delicious, but I doubt that represents the daily fare for a regular lunch menu. If we base it on the pricing of the community, it should be good."

"I visited the Gardens of Pelham. I was very impressed with it. It was very professional. I got a very good tour. They explained how everything worked. I was satisfied with the way it was set up. They showed me the rooms and the different levels of care they had, took me to the cafeteria, where the clients lived, and showed me how they provided different care for them. They explained to me about the social workers and the other medical personnel who came out for them while they were there. It was good. It just wasn't a good fit for my husband. The facility was pretty and looked homey. It looked like whoever would be there would enjoy it."

"I thought Maplewood Lane Assisted Living was a very homey place. The staff that I met there were all very cordial. There's one lady that's been working there for 27 years and she was just as great as she could be. We had a very honest conversation about what would be required to get my friend in. It's an assisted living so the rules were a little different. It's able to handle folks in a wheelchair, push them for their showers, and even out the front door to sit in the sunshine on the porch. They have physical therapy 2 or 3 times a week, and a Bible study twice a week. It was just a very homey place and I had known somebody that had been there before and was happy there. It's small and homey and they said they work very hard to make it that way. The lady friend that I was trying to look for, still has issues in terms of her mobility like when going to the bathroom and that kind of stuff. The small room is really small, a little smaller than other folks' studio rooms, but the assistance they were saying they gave folks, in terms of bathing and showering, seemed right up to par with everybody else. The one who toured me around was the man that owns the place. He didn't have to show me around a lot because I've been there, in the room of the friend that used to be there. He didn't do a whole lot of showing around. He just showed me where the room was and showed me the difference between the smallest room and the next one. I had been in the larger one with my friend before, and of course, the price goes up with every increase in size. There were folks in the big kitchen, working on supper. There's a piano there and while I was talking to him, somebody came and played it, and that kind of brought all the other folks out. I think they only had two rooms empty, and they both were small. It would take a little getting used to, but it's all that my friend needs. The person who toured me also said that if one goes into a small room and a larger one becomes available, they automatically will switch that person up. It was clean and the layout is great because they have straight halls. The halls are also wooden so that even if you're in a wheelchair, you could navigate them easily. One side of the windows looks over a little lake so it's a nice surrounding. There's also a government building or something across the street, and they've got a nice front to it where folks could sit. They said they were going to be adding something on the back, a covered porch, or something like that."

"I moved my 92 year old uncle from his home of 60 years to Covenant Place last year. They took incredible care of him the year he was in their care. They provided his meals, cleaning, laundry, continence care, medications, etc. They even helped get him to his appointments when I was unable to leave work. So much of the caregiver burden was eased for me while he was in their care. The staff really goes above and beyond with care and compassion. The communication was always top notch as well. Not once did I ever feel left out of the loop. Their activities director, Jillian, is an absolute gem! I largely credit his happiness there to her and her efforts to encourage and include him. I cannot say enough positive things about our overall experience!"

"Legacy Ridge Trussville had two spots available on the memory side. The unit is like a studio room with a separate bathroom. It has windows on two walls. Three full meals and snacks are included. The one who toured me around was the executive director. The place was clean. They showed us a room where an occupant had just left. He told us that they paint it, and they do that in all the rooms before they open them up, so that was nice. They also use Alexa in all the rooms."

"Mount Royal was excellent and gorgeous, but I could not afford it with my budget. The tour was good, though. The services and the staff were great."

"Alzheimer's is a wicked enemy. A vibrant successful woman stripped of memory now no longer able to speak. An active hiker in her prime her 92 year old body continues. My mother goes daily to the Adult Day Care where dear loving workers and patients stroke her hands to make her feel supported. Art, music, and physical activities are provided as well as a good lunch. Without it what would I do? "

"We had my 74-year old sister transferred to Greenbrier from another facility that was not taking care of her and seemed to have little interest in rehabilitating her so she could return home. The facilities are very nice and the staff was always helpful, more importantly the medical staff was actually interested in helping her progress from assisted living to independent living in her own home with a great rehabilitation program. The physical and nutritional therapy helped get her back to a balanced state where she could take care of herself again. It was a great transformation from someone who was losing the will to live, to once again caring for herself and other family members. She has successfully moved back to her house, and we enjoy the company of our sister once again."

"We toured the Morningside of Vestavia Hills. I liked the cordialness of the person taking us around. We stopped and met with several of the residents. It was very pleasing, and they were very professional and had great meals. It was just very eye-opening. The interesting thing that we did learn to separate from this thing is that independent living doesn't mean you can't live there if you're in a wheelchair or anything, so that was encouraging. They were just very informative, very professional, and very pleasant. We would suggest people take a good look at that. The building is older."

"My mother was in Fair Haven rehab and we couldn't have been happier about our experience. The check-in process, the spacious and clean accommodations, the administrative and healthcare staff, the food - all 5 star! "I went to the Country Cottages at Birmingham, Hoover. The cottage was just like what the name implies which is nice, makes you feel at home. The lady coming before the pandemic? They would take them to different events around. Things that happened monthly, you know, like the Fourth of July, they celebrate and different days, they celebrate. They make things, teach them to make different things, hanging things on the door, different activities like that. They have a nice sitting area, I think they have a little garden, where they grow flowers, and that they participate in."

"I visited Regency and a few other independent living facilities in the area. The food looked delicious and the rooms are larger then most. So far this is the best location and cost for our families needs."
