"I toured Monark Grove at Greystone. It was awesome. It was nice. The lady was nice. We had a good conversation. She showed me around every place and everything. We looked at some apartments. Everything is good. They have everything, a stove, a refrigerator, and all that stuff. The bedroom was fine. My main concern was having enough room for all my stuff because I have a lot of stuff, and the one I saw was big enough. They've got a patio with an outdoor grill. They also have an indoor pool. When I went by, I said, "Did anything go in there?", and she said, "No, it's a low-level pool, it's only so many feet, and it's not like the regular pool". So that was cool."

"My tour of The Crossings at Riverchase went well. The facility is only three years old, so it is very modern, and I like that. It was very clean. They had a pretty low turnover for the staff, at least up to that point. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. She has been in the business for a long time."

"I toured the independent living section of Galleria Woods in Birmingham, and it was a very nice facility. It was also less expensive. It had a swimming pool, a library, and a small gym. It also had common areas and places like that. The staff I met was very cooperative and very nice. It's a full-care facility, so it also has assisted living and skilled nursing care."

"Pleasant Villa Independent Living is very good with their people. I went there during lunchtime, and it smells great. They had a piano in there, and they were letting them sing songs. They were socially active, and I liked that. They are a small apartment kind of. The people are super nice. When I visited they were very attentive, and I could not see where they were showing any partiality. It was a good atmosphere, and it was nice and clean."

"Mount Royal Towers was slightly dated, but nice. What impressed me most was the location. My mother was just in rehab there. Her room was functional with TV. The food was good. They were very nice, but they need to improve on their knowledge of available resources in the community. "

"I love Episcopal Place. They have lots of activities, provide rides to doctors appointments and they serve lunches. It’s just a lot of camaraderie, very nice place to live and maintenance is excellent. "

"Regency Retirement Village was a beautiful facility. I was very impressed with their memory care unit. It was better located for my family to go visit her. The problem was there weren't any single rooms available, and my mom required a single room. However, the director was very helpful, and I was impressed with the activities. "

"I went to St. Martin's in the Pines. When I first got there, they had no schedule for me to take a tour. They had no idea I was coming. It took the receptionist about 20 minutes to finally get through to somebody. She finally got a hold of someone, and she agreed to take me on a slight tour that she did. She was also covering for somebody else, so she didn't know a whole lot about the place, but from what she showed me, she showed me the library, the chapel, the main common area, the dining hall, and the laundry room. I went and took a tour of the suite and the studio apartment. They have them furnished, but when you move in, they're unfurnished. So, you have to supply your own stuff. It comes with a small stove and a full-size refrigerator. The studio has one bathroom, no bathtub, just a shower. Then the one-bedroom has two bathrooms. There's one bathroom in the living room area and one bathroom in the bedroom. There's a little kitchenette in there as well. That one was basically out of my price range, so I didn't pay that much attention to it. There is a small patio outside where you could put a chair or two out there and a couple of plants, which is good and very pet-friendly. I have cats and was told I would have no problems bringing both of them with me. They were finishing up with having lunch in the main dining room. That's the only thing that comes with the rooms. You get one meal free every day. If you want their breakfast or dinner, it's five dollars extra each time. It's well-maintained, although the AC was out, and they were in the process of putting individual little AC units in each room. They got the central heating, and they're fixed. So, they're on top of their maintenance."

"I have already selected Somerby (Somerby at St. Vincent's One Nineteen). It is very well kept, and the rooms are nice, large, and very clean. The food is excellent with lots of selection. The people are very nice. I just like everything about it. There are lots of outside activities and inside activities, including membership to a gym. The outside is gorgeous. They have a little lake area, and the aesthetic is just so nice. They attend theater and lots of activities out of town to different places. The staff answered all of my quesitons, were very informative, very courteous, very friendly, and very open. They have been there a long time, and I like the fact that the people who own the place are there almost daily having lunch with their clients. They’re getting information and feedback from the people who live there. "

"I like everything about the Kirkwood by the River memory care unit. There were a lot of activities going on and a lot of happy people and residents. I saw so many friendly staff, they had a chapel inside and it was just very well organized. Even one of the owners was there, interacting with the residents. I met the chaplain and it just seemed that everyone was just super, super friendly. The staff was very hands-on with the residents, very happy in their jobs, and seem to love the residents. They're going through a renovation, adding some memory care units. The rooms were rather small and needed to be updated, and that's what they're going to do. It was very clean."

"My mother is in The Oaks on Parkwood. It is wonderful, and we're very pleased. There are lots of things available, but she isn't participating. They have exercise everyday, bingo, movie time, bands come in, different speakers, and services on Sunday, and they take them to different places in the area. They have an indoor pool, good sidewalks for walking, a beautician, a manicurist, a podiatrist, and a doctor that comes. They have a big living room and a library. "
