"Danberry (Danberry at Inverness) was fantastic. It was probably the most ideal place to retire. The staff members were wonderful. The community had three levels of care - independent, assisted and memory care - so it was great for advanced aging. It was clean and offered multiple activities. The staff was friendly. Danberry would be my no. 1 choice. My in-laws have decided to stay there. "

"It had a lot of activities. There was a lot I liked. What I disliked was the cost, the room was smaller than where we're going. Otherwise, it was very clean and very nice. I talked to several people there and the staff was very helpful and very nice. They had amazing amenities. It was cruise ship-like because that's how they described it. They had a hair salon, a beautiful dining area, and lots of activities available."

"It was a three or four year old building. It was actually gorgeous and it was nice inside. The people were nice. I have an electric vehicle, and there's an electric charging station right there on the property. The rooms were nice, too. The one-bedroom had plenty of closet space. It had a washer and dryer in the facility. I met the staff and they were wonderful. It had more upgrades than the other facility I went to, but there's a lot of stuff I wouldn't even use. So, it doesn't matter. They had an outside court, and there was more green space to walk around in there. The only negative was when you leave the facility and make a left hand turn to get on the freeway, I wouldn't advise it. What I did was I turned right and went up to whether it was a light, and I could either make a U-turn or turn into an area and then make a turn and come back, but there was another way out of the place, in the back. So, you go around. It was a more open air kind of place. I had a meal there and the food was excellent. They were having a function event the next night. They have that one every month and the funny thing about it is they were saying that they have a lot of stuff and the lady said, "After dinner, we really get going around here," and I laughed to myself because after dinner, that's when I start slowing down, but there's plenty of activities. I don't know how many I would partake in, but this is a new thing that I'm exploring right now."

"My tour of The Crossings at Riverchase went well. The facility is only three years old, so it is very modern, and I like that. It was very clean. They had a pretty low turnover for the staff, at least up to that point. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable. She has been in the business for a long time."

"I toured the independent living section of Galleria Woods in Birmingham, and it was a very nice facility. It was also less expensive. It had a swimming pool, a library, and a small gym. It also had common areas and places like that. The staff I met was very cooperative and very nice. It's a full-care facility, so it also has assisted living and skilled nursing care."

"Very happy with care and workers. Good to have some independence and be social with others my age. "

"Pleasant Villa was wonderful. It was nice and light. They had remodeled. The residents were happy. I had lunch there, and the food was good. "

"Maplewood Lane Assisted Living seemed like it would be nice. I could see a couple of the residents there, even though there weren't many that I happened to see in the community area. They seem to be fairly well independent, as far as I could tell, compared to my mother, who has severe dementia and is pretty much in a wheelchair. So the question was whether she would be able to be cared for in just plain assisted living or not. The staff who gave the tour was very caring. He's a Christian man that I would feel good about having my relatives there. They only have, I think 16 rooms, and there's only one left. They said that they lost some patients during the COVID epidemic. Otherwise, before that, they rarely had an opening. It doesn't sound like patients leave there that often. The room I saw was nice and is furnished, but you can also go either way and bring your own furniture as well. It had a carpet in the room, there's a shared shower with one other room, but it has its own toilet. The upkeep looked excellent; everything was in very good shape. They had a nice dining area. I met one of the cooks when I took the tour, she just finished making a cake, and I got the impression that the food would be good home-cooking. They have scheduled things like bingo and board games. My mother likes to sit and socialize and she'll have some opportunity for that. Plus all the rooms are fairly close to the meeting area. They had a front porch with some rocking chairs out there."

"Legacy Ridge Trussville has bingo almost every day, and my mother loves bingo. They have planned activities for the memory care residents. They seem to check on the residents more often, and they seem to have more staff present that I could see and talk to. They're clean and it was a more home-like environment. The staff members were all very friendly and seemed very experienced so I was very pleased with that. They had a beautiful garden area, they had a shaded area and they had an area where the residents that are wheelchair-bound can have access to a path. There's a path that went through the garden, and they did some hands-on activities out there."

"The room at Mount Royal Towers was small but had a beautiful view. The kitchen area had a dorm refrigerator and a microwave top. It was an impressive tall building, but I was disappointed with their small dining room. On the main floor, there was a bank, a pharmacy, and a beauty salon. The place was clean, but the room's carpet was horrible because someone had just moved out, and they hadn’t cleaned it yet. The food we had during the visit was OK, but we only had two choices for lunch, and they were snack food."

"I was sent to HealthSouth Lakeshore Rehab and they were quite good. They have several places where you can enjoy a meal with friends or with other patients. The physical therapists are excellent. The food was good and more than adequate. The room is just basic, a bed and a couple of extra chairs, built in dresser and a closet. It is very well maintained and more than adequate in size. "

"My mother was in Brookdale University Park Snf. We're still considering her for independent living there. She did a 10-day rehab stay there. The staff and the administration were very thorough, amazing, and very caring. The facilities were very clean and accommodating. They have all the rehab equipment there that she needed. Any time we needed any information or were concerned about anything, that was addressed immediately. I would definitely recommend the facility. We were very hands-on, so either my brother and I, or both, or somebody was there every day. So we saw the time and the attention that they gave to the occupants. We would not hesitate if we needed their service in the future to return there. She was given a private room with her own private bathroom with all the amenities and her closet space for her personal items. There was a safe for her valuables in the room, which we did not use, but it was there if we needed it. The lift chair was there to help assist her with getting up and down. There's our own call button in the bathroom as well as our bedside. The grounds and everything were very aesthetically pleasing. They have bingo, game nights, and music, as far as someone coming in to play the piano. There's an on-site hairstylist. While she was there, I was able to get her personal hairstylist to come in and do her hair. They have an activities committee, and she was allowed to participate in all of the social activities that were present while she was there. The only negative I had about it was the day that we admitted her, when I walked into the front desk, I stood there 15 minutes while the receptionist was doing something on her phone, and an administrator had to come out of her office to acknowledge me before the receptionist even knew I was there. They did address that, and they came back and apologized. There were some other activities that she participated in. I think one was a sing-along during the Christmas holidays. They had a wide array of activities."

"My mother was a resident of Aspire Cahaba River after her total hip replacement. The therapy services were exceptional and mother was very happy while there. The food is excellent and the staff was very caring."

"Alzheimer's is a wicked enemy. A vibrant successful woman stripped of memory now no longer able to speak. An active hiker in her prime her 92 year old body continues. My mother goes daily to the Adult Day Care where dear loving workers and patients stroke her hands to make her feel supported. Art, music, and physical activities are provided as well as a good lunch. Without it what would I do? "
