My mother-in-law has moved into Tucson Senior Care Homes LLC in their Andelly Cottage. I liked that it's a small community. It's close to home, which is a big plus. It's very clean. The staff is excellent. The homeowners are hands-on. One or both owners are there every day. My mother-in-law is sharing a room which she loves because she feels like she has company. The fact that it's a smaller facility and that they have a dining room, patients don't need to eat in their room. They're encouraged to eat at the table and socialize, and that is another big plus. The food is awesome, so says my mother-in-law. The units are not apartments; they're bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own toilet and shower. They have a television and a nightstand. It's not crowded, which I like because older people tend to bump into things. It's a wide open space leading to the bathroom, which is really where they go unattended for the most part. I haven't tried their food, but my husband, when he was visiting his mom there, asked him if he would like a plate, which I thought was pretty awesome since he's not a resident there. He did not eat, but he saw what they were serving, and he's like 'It looked good, and everybody was chowing down.' So I'm going to take his word for it. With regards to activities, the ones that are capable and urged to participate. They have like senior puzzles with bigger pieces, and they have bingo that they don't play for money. They have magazines. They watch their little programs together in groups. The caregivers are always there to help explain or to join in sometimes just to make it more fun. Assisted living is so expensive, but they were willing to work with us. The fact that my mother-in-law is so happy there, it's worth every penny.
