Questions about Parkland Memory Care
What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Everyone on our staff completes mandatory monthly training. In addition, we hire folks with memory care experience and passion. However, we strive to keep learning and bettering our skills.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We will staff enough Caregivers to meet the needs of our residents based off their individual service plans. In addition to caregivers, we will have activity personnel, department directors and 24-hour nurses scheduled.
What programs or activities does Parkland Memory Care offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our full-time Life Enrichment Director and activity staff, as well as caregivers are focused on activity, stimulation, brain activity and fun! Before residents move in, we ask families to complete a questionnaire so that we can create activities based on our residents' likes and preferences - evoking positive memories from the past.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Director of Wellness and our nursing team are constantly assessing our residents for changes in condition or irregularities to their norm. Assessments are done every 3 months or sooner should the need arise due to a change in condition.
What techniques does Parkland Memory Care use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
This depends on the needs and preferences of each resident; what works for them. We can offer therapeutic diets, special utensils to aid in function, assistance with feeding, etc.
How does Parkland Memory Care keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Families are welcomed to call the community anytime and speak with a nurse. Our care team will communicate regularly when applicable or in the instance of an emergency or incident. Our support staff and Life Enrichment staff will communicate with family regarding fun, participation and emotional health.
