About 2nd Family of Seattle in Seattle, Washington
Many of the families we serve are capable, devoted, and deeply involved, yet quietly stretched thin. Caregiving often begins long before hands-on tasks, carrying constant worry, vigilance, and decision fatigue. Our role is to ease that invisible burden by providing professional support that brings predictability, safety, and clarity back into daily life.
Families often wait to seek care until a crisis forces them into action. A little support can go a long way toward preventing illness and injury, leading to improved health outcomes, better quality of life, and greater independence.
Whether it's a little support during a recovery period, a companion for errands and outings, or regular assistance with personal care and household tasks, our licensed, experienced, and thoroughly-screened team members will create a sense of safety, comfort, and well-being that you can depend on. We personally interview and onboard each team member and will never send someone to your home that we wouldn't want caring for our own loved ones – that's our Grandma Guarantee®.
About Us:
We are Rob and Whitney Law, owners of 2nd Family, and we've called Seattle home for almost thirty years. After supporting our parents through illness and aging, while juggling demanding careers and parenting three busy kids, we felt compelled to contribute to the need for reliable, high-quality care solutions. We believe that even a little extra support has the power to restore relationships and preserve well-being across generations, and we look forward to partnering with families and organizations in our community.
There are a lot of paths when it comes to care, and putting a plan together can feel like solving an impossible puzzle. There's rarely one right answer, but we're always willing to share information and ideas over the phone or during a complimentary home visit.
The 2nd Family Difference
Our approach uplevels the quality and dependability of care and streamlines communication to create meaningful relief for families:
- Locally Owned and Operated — we consider it a privilege to provide care in our community. Our owners personally hire and orient each amazing caregiver and support them through ongoing training and active supervision. If we wouldn’t feel comfortable sending someone to care for our own loved ones, we won’t send them to care for you/yours.
- Care Team Lead — staffed by an RN who conducts the initial visit and assessment, creates the care plan, orients assigned caregivers, monitors every visit, and keeps everything in sync; an experienced, compassionate resource for clients and loved ones.
- Team Approach — caregivers work on a recurring schedule, but we never orient just the minimum. If your regular caregiver is unavailable, we send a familiar face for the same personalized care.
- Family Portal — family members get easy access to care notes, schedules, and requests through our app, and we're always happy to connect by phone or in person.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Do you have shift minimums?
We prefer shifts of four hours or more, at least three days a week — enough time for our team to get to know clients and add real value. Our priority is safety, comfort, and independence, so we'll always try to find a creative way to make a request work.
Q: What are your licenses and credentials?
We operate under a non-medical home care provider license. Most caregivers hold an NAC (CNA) credential, some hold an HCA credential, and our Care Team Lead role is staffed by an RN.
Q: Can your caregivers administer medication?
Per our license, we offer medication assistance (reminders, opening a package) but not administration. If a client needs that level of support, we can contract with a third-party nurse delegator.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
We can provide documentation for reimbursement by Long Term Care insurance. Non-medical home care isn't usually covered or reimbursable by medical insurance.
