Aldie is a small community on the Little River and started out as a mill town in Loudoun County. James Monroe built his house here in imitation of Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello. Just over 9% of the county’s 405,000 people are seniors aged 65 and over, and the region has four senior centers where adults aged 55 and over can get free hot lunches, access to fitness facilities and sign up for low- or no-cost transportation around the area.

Seniors in Aldie have a seemingly unending choice of places to go and things to do nearby. In October, for example, local seniors can visit the Boone family home for Saturday morning coffee and an authentic 1758 breakfast during Daniel Boone Days.

Homemaker services in Aldie cost an average of $3,670 a month, which works out to roughly $19.25 an hour, according to the 2018 Genworth Cost of Care Survey. Home health aide services cost Aldie seniors an average of $3,861 a month, or $20.25 an hour. This is somewhat less than the national average costs for these services. Seniors nationwide pay an average of $4,004 a month for homemaker services and $4,195 for home health aides. This averages out to $21 and $22 an hour, respectively.

Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Aldie, so data for the closest city, Winchester, was used.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Aldie area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Aldie Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Aldie:

VirginiaSAVES Green Community Program

The program also supports the purchase of solar and wind upgrades to the property, as well as the use of alternative fuels.

Services include:

  • Companion, chore and homemaker services

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
