Latoya is very responsive. She was one of the first agencies to actually come out to my home to sit and talk to me about my needs. She even offered advice on different things that could help me even if I didn’t decide to go with her company. I did decide to hire her company on and I’ve always been pleased with the service my caregivers provide. Her pricing was more reasonable than the other companies I looked into. I’ve been very pleased so far. I would definitely recommend her services.

I use the services of Comfort Keepers to help with the in home care of my mother who is 85 and has dementure. She had fallen down the stairs and got very ill after going to a rehab center. The doctors told us to say our good byes. I decided to bring her home and take care of her but after a while I had to good back to work and needed someone to watch her while I was at work. With the care that I received from my CNA from Comfort Keepers my mother made almost a full recovery. She is even trying to stand and walk. If it had not been for my CNA that cared for her like it was her own mother my mother would have never made the progress that she had. Even her doctor said that she could not believe her progress. So for me I rate Comfort Keepers 5 stars

It didnt take long at all for Synergy Homecare of Villa Rica to send me a caregiver. They worked with me on the day I needed someone to start and worked out everything. So far it’s great, and the only unfortunate thing is that they set the bar high. We really like the caregiver we have, and we hope we can keep her for a while. The caregiver helps my mother with breakfast, give her medication, bathing, dressing clothing, gets her ready for dialysis, and gives her lunch. She transfers her from the home wheelchair to the ambulance service that picks her up for dialysis. She would also wash whatever dishes they leave, straighten up my mom’s room, and then locks up the house and leave. She comes Monday to Friday. We like that she’s also a companion, and she helps my mother with her cognitive issues by working with her on some brain games and adult coloring book. She is also here when physical therapy comes in, and now that PT was over, she takes that on herself. Everything is very convenient and easy when you contact the agency and voicing out anything.

On occasion, each of them actually has been the caregiver in my home and my husband was pleased. They listen to me, they are experienced in patient care and are not afraid to take on tasks that other caregivers could not or would not do. They have gone above and beyond to help and to keep my husband comfortable and secure. My sense is that if I get in a bind and need help immediately or urgently they would find a way to provide it. I trust them.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Douglasville, GA
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-term care insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.
Douglasville Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Douglasville:
Address: 6287 Fairburn Rd., Douglasville, GA 30134
Phone: (770) 489-3100
Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the Home Delivered Meals program strives to ensure at-risk seniors receive regular nourishment in the form of hot meals. Address: 6287 Fairburn Rd., Douglasville, GA 30314
Phone: (770) 489-3106
Seniors over the age of 60 or individuals with a disability can contact the Douglas County Senior Services Medical Transportation program for assistance traveling to doctor’s appointments and procedures. The non-emergency transportation is provided in a van that’s equipped with a wheelchair lift, and rides are carried out in the order of the received requests.
Address: 6287 Fairburn Rd., Douglas, GA 30133
Phone: (770) 817-4666, EXT 2
Seniors that meet income eligibility guidelines can apply for assistance with paying their heating and cooling bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The federally funded program is managed by the Tallatoona Community Action Partnership. Applicants must apply for summer and winter assistance separately during designated time frames each year; however, individuals aged 65 and over are allowed to place requests a month earlier than the general public.
Address: 229 Peachtree St. NE, STE 100, Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Phone: (404) 463-3100
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) uses the Empowerline program to help seniors and their caregivers locate resources and information on topics such as legal assistance, medicare counseling and assistance programs. As a part of Georgia’s Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC), the network works to find services that match seniors’ individual needs for the purpose of improving their daily quality of life.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
