Ocala Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Ocala:

Citrus Hearing Impaired Program Services

Address: 109 NE Crystal Street Suite B, Crystal River, FL 34428
Phone Number: (352) 795-5000

This organization provides advocacy, assistance and resources for the hearing impaired in Marion County. Hearing-related resources can sometimes help seniors to remain independent in their homes for longer. Citrus Hearing Impaired Program Services provides specialized phone equipment at no cost to recipients as well as other products and services for hearing impaired seniors.

Marion Senior Services: In-Home Support Services

Address: 1101 SW 20th Ct, Ocala FL 34471
Phone Number: (352) 620-3501

Marion Senior Services understands how important it is for seniors to remain independent and in their homes for as long as possible. This program provides assistance to seniors in the Ocala area with a wide array of tasks, including light housekeeping, companionship, meal delivery and personal care. The purpose of the program is to assist with aging in place, so an initial consultation determines what services will help the recipient to do so safely and reasonably. The program also assists with crisis intervention, as needed.

St. Theresa Catholic Church Respite Care

Address: 11528 US-301, Belleview, FL 34420
Phone Number: (352) 687-1070

St. Theresa provides area seniors with a respite care program for those who either have a caregiver or are acting as one. The church provides volunteer teams of two to come to the home to relieve caregivers for a period of two to four hours away from the home. The volunteers socially engage the individual and provide companionship during this period.

Central Florida Community Action Agency: Aging in Place Home Rehabilitation Program

Address: 2703 NE 14th St., Ocala, FL 34470
Phone Number: (352) 732-3008

This program specifically focuses on helping low-income residents age 60 and older to make modifications to their homes to promote safety and independence. This includes improvements such as grab bar installation in bathroom areas, raised toilet seats, mobility ramps, task lighting and installation of shower seats. The program is available to qualified seniors at no out-of-pocket cost.

Senior Companion Program

Address: 1101 SW 20th Court, Ocala, FL 34474
Phone Number: (352) 620-3501

Administered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the Senior Companion program has just four sites around the state and Ocala is one of them. Senior companion volunteers help with everything from transportation to medical appointments, shopping assistance, advocacy and companionship.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
