My wife was discharged from the hospital after 24 days and admitted here for rehab. This facility was not one of our preferences but it was the only one with a bed available. Our first impression entering the facility was that it was old and run down, a bit dumpy. The room was supposed to include a special air mattress because of my wife's physical limitations. Instead there was an extra-firm mattress that she would not have been able to spend the night on. In the hall I could hear an automated system notifying staff that a room call button had been pressed - for several rooms. I also saw a number of the aides sitting in a staff room socializing. We could only imagine my wife waiting to get on a bedpan, then waiting to get off the bedpan while the aides are socializing. The idea of her spending a night there was so depressing that we checked out and came home where I will have to provide a lot of personal care and rehab care.

As far as I can tell, the care that Sun Prairie Retirement Center provides to my husband has been very good, I would say excellent. I've never been in the place because of the virus. In some manner, they've accommodated outside visits by having a plexi glass with a table and being 6 feet apart. They've tried to accommodated visitations now that it's colder, though right now they're not doing the visiting. As far as I can tell it's been very good. I get reports like if he sees a doctor, he's had a fall and they called, and they've called with questions. I can talk to him virtually and they do updates if he gets his flu shot. I'm his medical attorney and they need to contact me if he gets a shot, and they do. He likes the food although I haven't seen it. He said he's comfortable. Their facility on the outside looks very nice, and they have it decorated for the season. The facility itself is fairly old but it certainly in good repair so it's fine.

I visited this wonderful place six years ago as a part of the 'Adopt A Grandparent' program that was done with Sacred Hearts School. I had the honor of coming out once a week with the school and was blown away by the level of care provided and all the luxuries that were afforded for the residents. The staff was very friendly and you could tell just by walking around for a few moments that their primary focus was the residents. Everywhere I looked there were smiles and that's something that's stuck with me all these years. The facilities were very well kept and every time I came the place was spotless. I was also very impressed that activities and social functions were held on a regular basis. Everyone always seemed to be having such a wonderful time with a smile on their face and I really couldn't ask for more. Absolutely wonderful!
